폐리튬이온전지로부터 유가금속을 회수하기 위한 암모니아 침출법 (Ammoniacal Leaching for Recovery of Valuable Metals from Spent Lithium-ion Battery Materials)

  • 전기자동차의 수요가 증가함에 따라 리튬이온전지의 생산량도 증가하여 효율적인 전지 재활용 기술이 요구된다. 폐리튬이온전지를 재활용하는 방법에는 크게 건식제련과 습식제련에 기반한 방법으로 나눌 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 하이브리드 자동차에 사용된 폐리튬이온전지의 양극활물질을 습식제련에 기반한 암모니아침출법을 이용하여 활물질 내의 유용금속인 Ni, Mn, Co의 침출거동을 조사하였다. 물리적으로 처리된 활물질의 입자크기는 -65 mesh이며, 주된 원소는 14.0 wt% Ni, 13.0 wt% Mn, 5.7 wt% Co이다. 암모니아, 환원제 (아황산암모늄), pH 완충제 (탄산암모늄 혹은 황산암모늄)의 존재하에 각 금속의 침출거동을 확인하고, 또한 침출시간과 온도에 따른 침출률의 영향도 조사하였다. 환원제의 존재는 Ni과 Co의 침출률 향상을 위해 필수적이다. 암모니아침출법은 산침출법과 달리 Ni/Co와 Mn의 선택적인 침출이 가능하여 침출된 유용금속을 분리하는 단계를 줄일 수 있고, 산침출 후 수반되는 침전과정 시 필요로 하는 추가 염기성 시약의 사용을 줄일 수 있다.

고품질 Cu 박막 형성을 위한 폴리머 기판상 표면처리 기술 연구 (The adhesion enhancements of Cu metal thin film on plastic substrate by plasma technology)

  • 디스플레이 시장이 rigid에서 flexible로 변화하기 시작하면서 유연 투명전극 소재에 대한 수요가 증가하고 있다. 투명전극으로 대표되는 Indium Tin Oxide(ITO)는 고투과 저저항의 장점을 가지지만 유연성이 떨어져 이를 대체 할 투명전극 소재로 Metal mesh, Ag nano-wire, CNT, Graphene, Conductive polymer 등에 대한 응용 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 Metal mesh 용 Cu thin film 형성을 위해 플라즈마 표면처리 기술로 플라스틱 기판과 Cu 박막 사이의 밀착력을 향상시키고자 공정 연구를 수행하였다. 고품질의 Cu thin film 제작을 위해 양산용 roll to roll 장비를 이용하였고, 선형이온소스를 적용하여 플라즈마 표면처리를 수행하였다. 이후 마그네트론 스퍼터링을 통해 Ni buffer layer 및 Cu 박막 증착 공정을 in-situ로 진행하였다. 이러한 공정을 통해 제작한 Cu thin film의 밀착력을 평가하기 위해 cross cut test(ASTM D3359)를 수행하였다. 그 결과 플라스틱 기판과 Cu 금속 박막 사이의 밀착력이 0B에서 5B까지 향상된 것을 확인하였고, 플라즈마 표면처리 공정을 통해서 저항 또한 감소되는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 polyethylene terephthalate(PET)뿐만 아니라 polyimide(PI) 기판 상에서도 플라즈마 표면처리를 통해 금속 박막의 밀착력이 향상되는 결과를 확인하였으며, flexible copper clad laminate (FCCL) 같은 유연 정보 소자 분야에 응용 가능할 것으로 기대된다.

Improving the Long-term Field Emission Stability of Carbon Nanotubes by Coating Co and Ni Oxide Layers

  • Some applications of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as field emitters, such as x-ray tubes and microwave amplifiers, require high current emission from a small emitter area. To emit the high current density, CNT emitters should be optimally fabricated in terms of material properties and morphological aspects including high crystallinity, aspect ratio, distribution density, height uniformity, adhesion on a substrate, low outgassing rate during electron emission in vacuum, etc. In particular, adhesion of emitters on the substrate is one of the most important parameters to be secured for high current field emission from CNTs. So, we attempted a novel approach to improve the adhesion of CNT emitters by incorporating metal oxide layers between CNT emitters. In our previous study, CNT emitters were fabricated on a metal mesh by filtrating the aqueous suspensions containing both highly crystalline thin multiwalled CNTs and thick entangled multiwalled CNTs. However, the adhesion of CNT film was not enough to produce a high emission current for an extended period of time even after adopting the metal mesh as a fixing substrate of the CNT film. While a high current was emitted, some part of the film was shown to delaminate. In order to strengthen the CNT networks, cobalt-nickel oxides were incorporated into the film. After coating the oxide layer, the CNT tips seemed to be more strongly adhered on the CNT bush. Without the oxide layer, the field emission voltage-current curve moved fast to a high voltage side as increasing the number of voltage sweeps. With the cobalt-nickel oxide incorporated, however, the curve does not move after the second voltage sweep. Such improvement of emission properties seemed to be attributed to stronger adhesion of the CNT film which was imparted by the cobalt-nickel oxide layer between CNT networks. Observed after field emission for an extended period of time, the CNT film with the oxide layer showed less damage on the surface caused by high current emission.

내열용 오버레이 12%Cr계 스테인레스강의 열피로 특성에 미치는 Cr 함량과 델타-페라이트의 영향 (Effects of Cr Content and Volume Fraction of δ-Ferrite on Thermal Cycling Fatigue Properties of Overlay Welded Heat-Resistant 12%Cr Stainless Steels)

  • In this study, submerged arc cladded Fe-Cr-Ni-Mo-CuWNbV-C stainless steels containing various Cr contents between 11.2 wt.% and 16.7 wt.% were prepared with fixed C content at about 0.14 wt.%. Using these alloys, changes in microstructure, tensile property, and thermal fatigue property were investigated. Phase fraction of delta-ferrite was increased gradually with increasing Cr content. However, tensile strength, hardness, and thermal fatigue resistance appeared to be decreased. When the microstructure of delta-ferrite was observed, it was revealed that the mesh structure retained up to about 15% Cr content. Although thermal fatigue resistance was almost the same for Cr contents between 11.0 and 14.5 wt.%, it was significantly decreased at higher Cr contents. This was evident from mean value of crack lengths of 10 largest ones. Evaluation of thermal fatigue resistance on alloys with various Cr contents revealed the following important results. First, the reproducibility of ranking test was excellent regardless of the number of cycles. Second, thermal fatigue resistance was increased in proportion to true tensile fracture strength values of overlay materials. Finally, the number of thermal fatigue cracks per unit length was increased with increasing true tensile fracture strength.

Ni-MH 2차전지용 AB5계 수소저장합금의 소결에 따른 전극 특성 (The Electrode Characteristics of the Sintered AB5-type Metal Hydrogen Storage Alloy for Ni-MH Secondary Battery)

  • The AB5-type metal hydride electrodes using $(LM)Ni_{4.49}Co_{0.1}Mn_{0.205}Al_{0.205}$(LM : Lanthaniumrich Mischmetal) alloy powders(${\leq}200$mesh) which were coated with 25wt% copper in an acidic bath were prepared with or without addition of 10wt% PTFE as a binder. Prior to electrochemical measurements, the electrodes were sintered at $40^{\circ}C$ for 1 and 2hrs in vacuum with Mm(mischmetal) and sponge type Ti getters. The properties such as maximum capacity, cycle life and mechanical strength of the negative electrode have been investigated. The surface analysis of the electrode was also obtained before and after charge-discharge cycling using scanning electron microscope(SEM). From the observations of electrochemical behavior, it was found that the sintered electrode shows a lower maximum discharge capacity compared with non-sintered electrode but it shows a better cycle life. For the both electrodes with or without addition of PTFE binder, the values of mechanical strength were obtained, and their values increased with increasing sintering time. However, there is little difference of discharge capacity for both electrodes.

Zr1-xTixV0.4Ni1.2Mn0.4-yMoy계 합금전극의 Mo 함량에 따른 물성 및 전극특성 (Electrode properties upon the substitution of Mo for Mn in Zr-basd AB2-type Hydrogen Storage Alloys)

  • $AB_2$ type Zr-based Laves phases alloys have been studied for potential application as a negative electrode in a Ni-MH battery. The $AB_2$-type electrodes have a much higher energy density than $AB_5$-type electrodes per weight, however they have some disadvantages such as poor activation behavior and cycle life etc. Nonetheless, the $AB_2$-type electrodes have been studied very extensively due to their high energy density. In this study, in order to develop the cycle life, the Mn of $AB_2$ alloy composition was substituted partially by Mo. The alloys were melted by arc furnace and remelted 4-5 times for homogeneity. The alloy powder was used below 200-325 mesh for experiments. The structures and phases of the alloys were analyzed by XRD, SEM and EDS, and measured the curve of a pressure-composition isotherms. The electrodes were prepared by cold pressing of the copper-coated(25 wt%) alloy powders, and tested by a half cell. The results are summarized as follows. The cycle life was improved with the increase of Mo amount in $Zr_{1-x}Ti_xV_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.4}Mo_y$(x=0.3, 0.4) and the activation was faster, whereas the discharge capacity decreased.

롤투롤 시스템을 적용한 메탈 메쉬 전극 소재의 특성 향상 연구

  • 차세대 디스플레이로 유연하고 투명한 기능들이 요구되면서 Indium Tin Oxide(ITO)를 대체하기 위한 투명전극 개발 연구가 많이 수행되고 있다. ITO는 높은 투과도와 낮은 저항으로 현재 가장 많이 활용되고 있는 투명전극 소재이지만 유연성이 떨어져 유연 터치 패널 소재로 활용하기 어렵다. 이러한 문제 해결을 위해 ITO 대체 물질로 CNT, Graphene, Metal mesh, Ag nano wire, 전도성 고분자 등의 차세대 투명 전극 소재가 대두되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 메탈 메쉬 전극 소재로 사용하기 위해 Cu 박막 증착 시 플라즈마 표면처리를 통해 밀착력 및 저항을 개선하였다. Cu 금속 박막의 양산화를 위한 공정으로 자체 제작한 Linear Ion Source(LIS)가 부착된 roll to roll 시스템을 적용하여 플라즈마 전처리 공정 및 Ni buffer layer 도입 이후 Cu 박막을 형성하였다. 그 결과 PET 기판과 Cu 박막 사이의 밀착력을 0 degree에서 5 degree까지 향상시킬 수 있었고, 플라즈마 표면처리를 시행함으로써 저항 또한 감소되는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해서 폴리머 기판 소재에 in-situ로 표면처리 및 Cu 금속 박막을 증착함으로써 금속 박막의 밀착력 및 전기적 특성이 향상되는 공정 기술을 개발하였다.

  • An OrthoMTA compacter is made by machining a Ni-Ti alloy wire using tapered helix creep-feed grinding machines. This aim of this study is to find the optimal dressing conditions to sharpen the corner of a cubic boron nitride (CBN) wheel. On the basis of the results of various experiments, it is verified that the most important factors in dressing are the dressing depth and feeding method, whereas the feed rate has less importance for producing a smaller corner R value. The study also finds the optimum dressing depth to reduce the dressing time, a feeding speed and method to stabilize the machining, and the mesh grade for the CBN wheel to make the groove of the compacter deeper.

陽이온 交換크로마토그라피에 의한 轉移元素의 分離 (Quantitative Separation of Some Transition Metals by Cation Exchange Chromatography)

  • The cation exchange chromatographic studies for the analysis of transition metals have been described. The quantitative separation of a mixture of Fe(Ⅲ), Cu(II), Zn(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), Co(II) and Mn(II) has been obtained by elution, through a 28cm column of the resin, Dowex 50 ${\times}$ 4 (100∼200 mesh), using 0.45 M $NaNO_3$+0.05 M Na-tartrate solution as eluent, starting with the eluent of pH 3.5, followed stepwise by pH 4.0 and 4.5. A comparison between the calculated and the observed peak positions in the elution curve has been shown. The relative stability constants for tartrate complexes of some transition metals have been calculated by using distribution ratios obtained in this separation procedure.

콜로이드법으로 합성한 RuO2 전극촉매의 연구 (A Study on the RuO2 Electrode Catalyst Prepared by Colloidal Method)

  • $RuO_2$, $PtO_2$, and various $(Ru,Pt)O_2$ colloidal solution were prepared using modified Watanabe method. Electrodes were manufactured by dipping of Ni mesh into the colloidal solution. Manufactured electrodes were characterized by XRD, SEM, and EDS. $(Ru,Pt)O_2$ electrodes showed $RuO_2$ crystal structure and high roughness. The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activities were evaluated by Linear Sweep Voltammetry. 1Ru2Pt electrode showed similar activity with commercial electrode, HER potentials are -0.9 V for both.
