Selective Synthesis of a New Macropolycycle Containing One N-CH2-N Linkage and Its Reaction with Cu2+ and Ni2+ Ions in Methanol

  • The reaction of 3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatetracyclo[16.4.0$0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]docosane ($L^1$) with formaldehyde in warm methanol yielded 3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatetracyclo[16.4.$1^{2.6}.0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]tricosane ($L^7$) containing one 1,3-diazacyclohexane subunit. In methanol, $L^7$ readily reacts with $Cu^{2+}$ ion to form [$CuL^7(H_2O)$]$^{2+}$ which is extremely inert against methanolysis. In the solution containing $Ni^{2+}$ ion, however, $L^7$ reacts with methanol to yield [$NiL^3$]$^{2+}$ ($L^3$ = 2-(methoxymethyl)-5,16-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatricyclo[16.4.$0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]- docosane), in which one N-$CH_2OCH_3$ pendant arm is appended. The copper(II) complex [$CuL^7(H_2O)$]- $(ClO_4)_2{\cdot}3H_2O\;(I{\cdot}3H_2O)$ has a severely distorted trigonal bipyramidal coordination geometry with a 4-5- 6-5 chelate ring sequence. The crystal structure of [$NiL^3$]$(PF_6)_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ (IIb) shows that the N-$CH_2OCH_3$ pendant arm is not coordinated to the metal ion in the solid state. In various solvents (S), however, the nickel(II) complex exists as a mixture of [$NiL^3$(S)]$^{2+}$, in which the N-$CH_2OCH_3$ group as well as S is coordinated to the metal ion, and [$NiL^3$]^{2+}.

Complex Permeability Analysis of NiCuZn Ferrites (NiCuZn 계 페라이트의 조성에 따른 복소투자율 변화 해석)

  • The characteristics of the complex permeability of ${(Ni_{x}Cu_{0.2}Zn_{0.8-x}O)}_{1-w}{(Fe_{2}O_{3})}_{1+w}$ with various Ni and $Co_{3}O_{4}$ contents were investigated in this work. It is found that the NiCuZn ferrites with $x{\geq}0.6$ have a relatively small peak width of the imaginary part of permeability $\mu$". The resonance frequency is increased as Ni content becomes higher, where the loss is low. The $\mu$" value decreases with increasing FezO, deficiency, but the resonance frequency($f_{\mu"max}$) is only slightly affected by $Fe_{2}O_{3}$ deficiency. In case of $Co_{3}O_{4}$ addition to the NiCuZn ferrites, the $f_{\mu"max}$ increases since the initial permeability decreases with the amount of $Co_{3}O_{4}$. It is concluded that the Ni content in the NiCuZn ferrite is a dominant factor for the total loss of these spinel ferrites.

Microwave Absorbance of Polymer Composites Containing SiC Fibers Coated with Ni-Fe Thin Films

  • Conductive and dielectric SiC are fabricated using electroless plating of Ni-Fe films on SiC chopped fibers to obtain lightweight and high-strength microwave absorbers. The electroless plating of Ni-Fe films is achieved using a two-step process of surface sensitizing and metal plating. The complex permeability and permittivity are measured for the composite specimens with the metalized SiC chopped fibers dispersed in a silicone rubber matrix. The original non-coated SiC fibers exhibit considerable dielectric losses. The complex permeability spectrum does not change significantly with the Ni-Fe coating. Moreover, dielectric constant is sensitively increased with Ni-Fe coating, owing to the increase of the space charge polarization. The improvements in absorption capability (lower reflection loss and small matching thickness) are evident with Ni-Fe coating on SiC fibers. For the composite SiC fibers coated with Ni-Fe thin films, a -35 dB reflection loss is predicted at 7.6 GHz with a matching thickness of 4 mm.

The Characteristics of Electromagnetic Wave Absorption in Sintered and Composite Ni-Zn Ferrites (니켈-아연 페라이트 소결체와 복합체의 전파흡수특성)

  • The frequenc dependence of magnetic permeability($\mu$r) and dielectric constant($\varepsilon$r) in MHz-GHz frequency range and their relationships with microwave absorbing properties were investigated in sintered and composite Ni-Zn ferrites, respectively. It was confirmed that zero reflection condition was required the real parts of permeability and permittivity in sintered specimen, and the complex permeability, permittivity and dielectric loss tangent in composite specimen. The real part of permittivity varied with the replacement of nickel by manganese in sintered Ni-Zn ferrite. Therefore, we could control the matching frequency and matching thickness.

Synthesis and Crystal Structures of Mn(II)- and Ni(II)-Dicarboxylate Complexes with 1,10-Phenanthroline

  • Two new metal(II) complexes, $[Mn(dpa)(phen)(H_2O)_2]_n$ (1) ($H_2dpa$ = dephenic acid, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) and $[Ni_2(nda)(phen)_2(H_2O)_6](nda)(H_2O)$ (2) ($H_2nda$ = 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. In complex 1, Mn(II) ion is six-coordinated, and Mn(II) ions are bridged by dpa ligands into 1D chains. While, the complex 2 is dimer and two Ni(II) ions are bridged by one nda ligand cooperated with the terminal ligand phen. In each complex, the dicarboxylate ligand is coordinated to metal(II) ions as a bis-monodentate.

Synthesis and characterization of LiMn1.5Ni0.5O4 powders using polymerization complex method (착체중합법을 이용한 LiMn1.5Ni0.5O4 분말합성 및 특성평가)

  • The $LiMn_{1.5}Ni_{0.5}O_4$, substituting a part of Mn with Ni in the $LiMn_2O_4$, the spinel structure has good charge-discharge cycle stability and high discharge capacity at 4.7 V. In this study $LiMn_{1.5}Ni_{0.5}O_4$ powders were synthesized by polymerization complex method. The effect on the characteristics of synthesized $LiMn_{1.5}Ni_{0.5}O_4$ powders was studied with citric acid (CA) : metal ion (ME) molar ratio (5 : 1, 10 : 1, 15 : 1, 30 : 1) and calcination temperature ($500{\sim}900^{\circ}C$). Single phase of $LiMn_{1.5}Ni_{0.5}O_4$ was observed from XRD analysis on the powders calcined at low ($500^{\circ}C$) and high temperatures ($900^{\circ}C$). The crystalline size and crystallinity increased with calcination temperature. At low calcination temperature the particle size decreased and specific surface area increased as the CA molar ratio increased. On the other hand, high particle growth rate at high calcination temperature interfered the particle size reduction and specific surface area increase induced by the increase of CA molar ratio.

Nitrate Ion-Selective Membrane Electrode Based on Complex of Ammonia Modified Bakelite A-Ni(II) Nitrate (Bakelite A-Ni(II) 착물의 질산이온 선택성 막전극)

  • A nitrate ion-selective PVC membrane electrode based on ammonia modified bakelite A-Ni$(NO_3)_2$ complex as ion exchanger was prepared. The electrode gave a linear response with a Nernstian slope of 60mV per decade within the concentration range $1{\sim}10^{-4}$ M $KNO_3$ but nonresponse to hydrogen ion and multivalent anions. The selectivity, response time and life time of the electrode were investigated and it was found that the electrode exhibited good selectivity for four univalent anions ($Cl^-,\;Br^-,\;I^-,\;{ClO_4}^-$). Analytical application to the determination of nitrate were also studied.

Determination of Trace Amounts of Nickel(II) with ${\alpha}-(2-Benzimidazolyl))-{\alpha}'{\alpha}$

  • A method is described for the fluorimetric determination of nickel, based on the formation of $Ni(II)-\alpha-(2-Benzimidazolyl)-\alpha'$, $\alpha''$ -(N-5-Nitro-2-Pyridylhydrazone)-toluene complex in the presence of a non-ionic surfactant. The complex has practically no fluorescence in the absence of surfactant, but the addition of Triton X-100 makes possible the fluorimetric determination of low concentrations of Ni(II) as it enhances the fluorescenceintensity of the complex by up to about 5-fold. This method is very sensitive and selectrive for the direct determination of nickel ion. The optimum conditions are a Triton X-100 concentration of 2.0 mL(5.0%, v/v) and pH $9.0\pm0.2(ammonium$ chloride-ammonia buffer). The fluorescence is measured at 337 nm of emission wavelength under 300 nm of excitation wavelength. The fluorescence intensity is a linear function of the concentration of Ni(II) in the range 5-70 ng/mL, and the detection limit is 2.0 nm/mL. The proposed method has been successfully applied to the determination of trace amounts of Ni(II) in food and human hair samples.

A Study on the Electromagnetic Wave Absorption Properties by the Preparing Condition of NiCuZn Ferrite (NiCuZn 페라이트의 제조 조건에 따른 전자파흡수 특성에 관한 연구)

  • With the development of electromagnetic communication technology and increased use of electromagnetic wave, the countermeasure of EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) becomes more important socially, and interest for the electromagnetic wave absorber has also increased. In this paper, we have studied characteristics of frequency dependency on complex permittivity and complex permeability according to the changes of composition rate and sintering temperature of NiCuZn ferrite also known as electromagnetic wave absorber and further looked into effect of electromagnetic wave absorption properties. From the measurement where the composition of Fe$_2$O$_3$ and ZnO of NiCuZn ferrite was fixed at 49 and 34 mol% respectively while composition of NiO and CuO has been varied at each test, we found out that initial permeability and permittivity were high and the absorbing ability of electromagnetic wave recorded best with loss tangent(${\mu}$r"/${\mu}$r′) displays more than 1 within the frequency band of 2MHz~9.5MHz when the composition ratio of NiO was ranged around 8.5~9.5 mol% and the sintering temperature was 1,080$^{\circ}C$.
