Most of LNT catalysts use noble metals such as Pt for low temperature NOx oxidation but there is an economic weakness. For the purpose of overcoming this, this study is to develop DeNOx catalyst for LNT excluding PGM (platinum group metal) such as Pt, Pd, Rh, etc. To do so, Al/Co/Ni catalyst selected as a preliminary test is used to study fundamental property and NOx’s conversion according to calcined temperature. Ultimately, that is, Al/Co/Ni mixed metal oxide which does not use PGM is selected and physicochemical characterization is performed by way of XRD, EDS, SEM, BET and ramp test and NOx conversion is also analyzed. This study shows that all samples consist of mixed oxides of spinel structure of Co2AlO4 and NiAl2O4 and have enough pore volume and size for redox. But as a result of NH3-TPD test, it is desired that calcined temperature needs to be maintained at 700 ℃ or lower. Also only samples which are processed under 500 ℃ satisfied NO and NOx conversion simultaneously through ramp test. Based on this study’s results, optimum calcined temperature for Al/Co/Ni=1.0/2.5/0.3 mixed metal oxide catalyst is 500 ℃.

Metal doping was adopted to modify TiO2 (P-25) and enhance the photocatalytic degradation of harmful cyanides in aqueous solution. Ni, Cu, Co, and Ag doped TiO2 were found to be active photocatalysts for UV light induced degradation of aqueous cyanides generating cyanate, nitrate and ammonia as main nitrogen-containing products. The photoactivity of Ni doped TiO2 was greatly affected by the state of Ni, that is, the crystal size and the degree of reduction of Ni. The modification effects of some mixed oxides, that is, Ni-Cu/TiO2 were also studied. The activity of Ni-Cu/TiO2 for any ratio of Cu/Ni was higher than that of Ni- or Cu-doped TiO2, and the catalyst at the Cu/Ni ratio of 0.3 showed the highest activity for cyanide conversion.

$Ni-La_2O_3-Ce_{0.8}Zr_{0.2}O_2$ catalysts with various $La_2O_3$ loading were investigated for hydrogen production from steam reforming of methane (SRM). The $La_2O_3$ loading influenced the physicochemical properties of $Ni-La_2O_3-Ce_{0.8}Zr_{0.2}O_2$ catalysts such as BET surface area, Ni dispersion, Ni size and reducibility. Among the prepared catalysts, $Ni-70La_2O_3-Ce_{0.8}Zr_{0.2}O_2$ catalyst showed the highest activity and stability at a very high gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of $932,556h^{-1}$. This is mainly due to high Ni dispersion, small Ni size and high reducibility.
The electrical wire explosion process in liquid media is promising for nano-sized metal and/or alloy particles. The hybrid Pt/Fe-Cr-Al and Pt/Ni-Cr-Fe nanoparticles for exhaust emission control system are synthesized by electrical wire explosion process in liquid media. The alloy powders have spherical shape and nanometer size. According to the wire component, while Pt/Fe-Cr-Al nanoparticles are shown the well dispersed Pt on the Fe-Cr-Al core particle, Pt/Ni-Cr-Fe nanoparticles are shown the partially separated Pt on the Ni-Cr-Fe core particle. Morphologies and component of two kinds of hybrid nano catalyst particles were characterized by transmission electron microscope and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis.

In this study, PAN(polyacrylonitrile)-based precursor fibers were produced through a wet-spinning process, and their morphologies and graphitization behavior were investigated in the presence of two graphitization catalysts (Ca, Ni). The graphitization catalysts were introduced into the formed pores during hot-water stretching of wet-spun PAN-based precursor fibers. The catalytic effects of graphitization catalysts were examined through crystal structure and Raman analysis. At a relatively low temperature of 1500℃, the graphitization was not significantly affected, whereas at a high temperature of 2400℃, the obtained ID/IG value of graphite fiber (GF-Ni100) was decreased by about twice (~0.28) compared to the untreated fibers (GF-AS~0.54). By comparing the ID/IG values (GF-Ca100~0.42: GF-Ni100~0.28) of Ca and Ni graphitization catalyst, it was found that the degree of graphitization of Ni graphitization catalyst showed higher influence than that of Ca graphitization catalyst. Moreover, 2D band was also observed, indicating that the graphite plane structures composed of multiple layers were developed. XRD results confirmed that the crystal inter-planar distance (d002) of the graphite crystal was slightly decreased after the treatment with the graphitization catalyst, But, the crystal size of Ca-treated graphite fiber (GF-Ca100) was increased by up to ~5 nm.
Activated carbon fibers were prepared from the petroleum isotropic pitch and organometallic compounds. The metalsvwere dispersed uniformly in the ACFs. The specific surface area and pore size distributions of metal containing ACFsvwere measured. The mesopores of ACFs were developed by Co, Ni, and Mn metals addition and the catalytic reactivityvof ACFs'SOx removal was increased by adding Ni and Pd metals. It was found that the mesopores did not work forvthe improvement of catalytic reactivity of ACFs' SOx removal with the blank experiment using the metal removedvACFs.
High purity carbon nano fibers/tubes (CNF/Ts) which contain 97% pure graphitic carbon are prepared by a new catalytic method. These carbon nano fibers/tubes are ready to use without any further purification. The striking feature of this method is the production of carbon nano fibers/tubes of narrow distribution range. The developed catalytic method also produces pure hydrogen. An additional advantage of this catalytic method is that catalyst can be reused without reactivation. Ni:Cu catalyst system is embodied into SCHOTT-DURAN filter disc of large pore size (40-100 mm). Due to the production of hydrogen in the reaction catalyst stability is enhanced and deactivation process is considerably slowed down.
The effect of preparation method on the catalytic activities of the $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalysts on steam reforming of ethylene glycol was investigated. The catalysts were prepared with various preparation methods such as an incipient wetness impregnation, wet impregnation, and coprecipitation method. In the case of coprecipitation method, various precipitants such as KOH, $K_2CO_3$, and $NH_4OH$ were compared. The prepared catalysts were characterized by using $N_2$ physisorption, inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, temperatureprogrammed reduction, pulsed $H_2$ chemisorption, temperature-programmed oxidation, scanning electron microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. Among the catalysts reduced at 773 K, the $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalyst prepared by a coprecipitation with KOH or $K_2CO_3$ as precipitants showed the best catalytic performance. The preparation method affected the particle size of Ni, reducibility of nickel oxides, catalytic performance (activity and stability), and types of coke formed during the reaction. The $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalyst prepared by a coprecipitation with KOH showed the increasing catalytic activity with an increase in the reduction temperature from 773 to 1173 K because of an increase in the reduction degree of Ni oxide species even though the particle size of Ni increased with increasing reduction temperature.

The vertically well-aligned carbon nanotubes(CNTs) were successfully grown on Ni coated silicon wafer substrate by DC bias-assisted PECVD(Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition). As a catalyst, Ni thin film of thickness ranging from 15~30nm was prepared by electron beam evaporator method. In order to find the optimum growth condition, the type of gas mixture such as $C_2H_2-NH_3$ was systematically investigated by adjusting the gas mixing ratio at $570^{\circ}C$ under 0.4Torr. The diameter of the grown CNTs was 40~200nm and the diameter of the CNTs increased with increasing the Ni particles size. TEM images clearly showed carbon nanotubes to be multiwalled. The measured turn-on field was $3.9V/\mu\textrm{m}$ and an emission current of $1.4{\times}10^4A/\textrm{cm}^2$ was $7V/\mu\textrm{m}$. The CNTs grown by bias-assisted PECVD was able to demonstrate high quality in terms of vertical alignment, crystallization of graphite and the processing technique at low temperature of $570^{\circ}C$ and this can be applied for the emitter tip of FEDs.

In this study, a Cu/hexaaluminate catalyst was prepared by a co-precipitation method, and then a binder was added to form a pellet. A catalyst in which Ni and Ru promoters were added to a Cu/hexaaluminate pellet catalyst was prepared. This study focused on examining the effect of the addition of Ni and Ru promoters on the properties of Cu/hexaaluminate catalysts and the decomposition reaction of ADN-based liquid monopropellants. Cu/hexaaluminate catalysts had few micropores and well-developed mesopores. When Ru was added as a promoter to the Cu/hexaaluminate pellet catalyst, the pore volume and pore size increased significantly. In the thermal decomposition reaction of ADN-based liquid monopropellant, the decomposition onset temperature was 170.2 ℃. Meanwhile, the decomposition onset temperature was significantly reduced to 93.5 ℃ when the Cu/hexaaluminate pellet catalyst was employed. When 1% or 3% of Ru were added as a promoter, the decomposition onset temperatures of ADN-based liquid monopropellant were lowered to 91.0 ℃ and 83.3 ℃, respectively. This means that the Ru promoter is effective in lowering the decomposition onset temperature of the ADN-based liquid monopropellant because the Ru metal has excellent activity in the decomposition reaction of ADN-based liquid monopropellant, simultaneously contributing to the increase of the pore volume and pore size. After the thermal treatment at 1,200 ℃ and decomposition of ADN-based liquid monopropellant were repeatedly performed, it was confirmed that the addition of Ru could enhance the heat resistance of the Cu/hexaaluminate pellet catalyst.
