The geometry structures of hexa-coordinated [NiLX]X complexes ($X=Cl^-,\;Br^-,\;I^-$) {L = 8,9,18,19-tetrahydro-7H,17H-dibenzo[f,o] [1,5,9,13]dioxadiaza cyclohexadecine-8,18-diol} are optimized by density functional theory (DFT) using B3LYP/LANL2DZ. The calculated geometric parameters are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental values. Calculation results about these complexes show that dipole moment decreases, and the energy levels of HOMOs descend from iodo-complex to chloro-complex. The energy levels of HOMOs descend gently from iodo-complex to chloro-complex, while the energy levels of LUMOs in the present complexes are almost similar; therefore the energy gapes between HOMOs and LUMOs increased from iodo-complex to chloro-complex.

Electro-optic modulator (EOM) takes a vital role in connecting the electric and optical fields. Here, we present a heterogeneously integrated EOM based on the lithium niobate-on-insulator (LNOI) platform. The key modulation waveguide structure is a field-enhanced slot waveguide formed by embedding silicon nanowires in a thin-film lithium niobate (LN), which is different from the previously reported LN ridge or etchless LN waveguides. Based on such slot structure, optical mode field area is reduced and enhanced electric field in the slot region can interact well with LN material with high Electro-optic (EO) coefficient. Therefore, the improvements in both aspects have positive effects on enhancing the modulation performance. From results, the corresponding EOM by adding such modulation waveguide structure achieves better performance, where the key half-wave-voltage-length product (V𝜋L) and 3 dB EO bandwidth are 1.78 V·cm and 40 GHz under the electrode gap width of only 6 ㎛, respectively. Moreover, Lower V𝜋L can also be achieved. With these characteristics, such field-enhanced waveguide structure could further promote the development of LNOI-based EOM.

In this study, a pepA gene encoding glutamyl (aspartyl)-specific aminopeptidase (PepA; E.C. 3.4.11.7) was cloned from Tetragenococcus halophilus CY54. The translated PepA from T. halophilus CY54 showed very low similarities with PepAs from Lactobacillus and Lactococcus genera. The pepA from T. halophilus CY54 was overexpressed in E. coli BL21(DE3) using pET26b(+). The recombinant PepA was purified by using an Ni- NTA column. The size of the recombinant PepA was 39.13 kDa as determined by SDS-PAGE, while its optimum pH and temperature were pH 5.0 and 60℃, respectively. In addition, the PepA was completely inactivated by 1 mM EDTA, indicating its metallopeptidase nature. The Km and Vmax of the PepA were 0.98 ± 0.006 mM and 0.1 ± 0.002 mM/min, respectively, when Glu-pNA was used as the substrate. This is the first report on PepA from Tetragenococcus species.
This study reports petrography and geochemical characteristics of the basalt lava flows in Seongsan-Ilchulbong area, the easternpart of Jeju island, Korea, to understand the evolutionary processes of magma. Basalt lavas are classified into the Pyoseon-ri basalt and the Seongsan-ri basalt. The Pyoseon-ri basalt is dark-gray colored with many vescicles, and mainly consists of olivine, feldspar and rarely of clinopyroxene as phenocrysts. The Seongsan-ri basalt is largely aphanitic basalt and bright-gray colored, divided into two lava-flow units: lower lava flow (B1) and upper lava flow (B2) by the intercalated yellowish lapillistone and paleosol. The lavas plotted into sub-alkaline tholeiitic basalt and alkaline basalt series. The tholeiitic basalts have characteristically higher $SiO_2,\;FeO^T$, and CaO contents, but lower $TiO_2,\;K_2O,\;P_2O_5$ and other incompatible elements compared to the alkali basalts. The tholeiitic basalts have higher $SiO_2$ to the same MgO contents than the alkalic basalts. The contents of Ni, Cr, and MgO show a strong positive correlation, which indicates that low-MgO phases like plagioclase and titanomagnetite were important during the differentiation of magma. The contents of incompatible elements against that of Th show a strong positive correlation. The chondrite-nomalized REE patterns of tholeiitic and alkalic basalts are subparallel each other. LREEs contents of the former are lower than, but HREEs contents are similar to the latter. They both are similar to their K/Ba ratios. The primitive-mantle normalized spider diagram demonstrates that the contents of Ba and Th of all basaltic magma are enriched, and yet Cr, Ni are depleted. The tholeiitic and alkalic basalts may be originated from a different degree of the partial melting of the same mantle material source, and one shows a higher degree of the partial melting than the other.
A new open-chain ligand containing two phenol groups, 1, 14-Bis (2-hydroxybenzyl)-2, 6, 9, 12-tetraazatetradecane(bsated) was synthesized as its tetrahydrochloride salt and characterized by elemental analysis, mass, infrared and NMR. Its proton dissociation constants ($logK^n{_H}$) and stability constants ($logK_{ML}$) toward $Co^{2+}$, $Ni^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$ were determined at $25^{\circ}C$ and 0.10M($KNO_3$) ionic strength in aqueous solution by potentiometry. The X-ray structure of its copper (II) complex [Cu(bsated)]$(ClO_4)_2$ was reported: Monoclinic space group $P2_1/n$, $a=17.856(4){\AA}$, $b=17.709(1){\AA}$, $c=8.539(2){\AA}$, $V=2700(2){\AA}$ with Z=4. Electrochemical studies of [Cu(bsated)]$(ClO_4)_2$ complex in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solution containing tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (supporting electrolyte) were carried out by cyclic voltammograms (CV) and normal pulse voltammetry (NPV).

Tasty constituents such as free amino acids. free organic acids and free sugars and minerals in clavariaceae botrytis were surveyed through the course of this study. The results were as, follows: 1. Isoleucine valine threonine alanine methionine cysteine glutamine histidine glutamic acid and aspartic acid were presented in clavariaceae botrytis, and aspartic acid showed the highest amount. 2. Succinic acid was the major organic acid in clavariaceae botrytis, and also citric acid malic acid and fumaric acid were presented. 3. Clavariaceae botrytis contained fructose, maltose glucose and sucrose ; glucose and sucrose were more than 80% of total sugars. 4. Na K Mg Ca Zn Mn Cu am Fe by atomic absorption spectrometer were detected and assayed. and Al Si Ni Sn Ti Cr Ag Pb B and Sr detected by emission spectrograph. K of these minerals showed the highest amount but very small amount of Ca was presented.
We have analyzed the ingredients of 17 pieces of Bronze Age bronze ware, and an additional 22 pieces of Koryo and Chosun dynasty bronze ware. We have also conducted analysis of the extraction sites where these bronze ware items were found. For analyzing the main ingredient the bronze ware items have been divided into 3 groups - Cu-Sn(70?75:20), Cu-Pb-Sn(70:10:10), Cu-Pb-Sn(60:10:20) type respectively. In tile cases of the Cu-Pb-Sn groups the division comes down to differences in the Cu content as the main component, and elements such as Ni, Fe, Co contribute as a micro ingredient. The geographical and periodic characteristics of ancient bronze ware items show that theircompositional element changes from Cu:Sn to Cu:Pb:Sn and the Cu content decreases with the period, while the Pb content increases with the period. Bronze ware items from Suchon Ri, Gongju (that were used in 3 B.C.) form very different categories from 3rd ${\~}$ 2nd B.C.. They additionally formed very different categories from those bronze ware items analyzed in this research. These bronze ware itemsare shown to be geographically close and periodically overlapped, but made of a new elemental composition. This shows an inflow of a production technical culture present in the new bronze wares. The main component content of Cu is lower, and the Co and Fe contents (as microelements) are much higher than that of other bronze ware items. Such facts showthat those bronze ware items used completely different materials from bronze ware items in other cultural areas, or that there were differences in smelting techniques In the places where ancient bronze ware items have been extracted, it is presumed that the materials originated from the southern parts of Korea andnorthern parts and southern parts of China. .As more bronze ware scientific research is compiled one can conclude that that there will be enough scientific evidence to study the Bronze Age culture of Koreasystematically.
To develop starters for the production of functional foods or materials, lactic acid bacteria producing ${\gamma}-aminobutyric$ acid (GABA) were screened from jeotgals, Korean fermented seafoods. One isolate producing a high amount of GABA from monosodium $\text\tiny{L}$-glutamate (MSG) was identified as Enterococcus avium by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. E. avium M5 produced $18.47{\pm}1.26mg/ml$ GABA when incubated for 48 h at $37^{\circ}C$ in MRS broth with MSG (3% (w/v)). A gadB gene encoding glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) was cloned and overexpressed in E. coli BL21 (DE3) using the pET26b (+) expression vector. Recombinant GAD was purified through a Ni-NTA column and the size was estimated to be 53 kDa by SDS-PAGE. Maximum GAD activity was observed at pH 4.5 and $55^{\circ}C$and the activity was dependent on pyridoxal 5'-phosphate. The $K_m$ and $V_{max}$ values of GAD were $3.26{\pm}0.21mM$ and $0.0120{\pm}0.0001mM/min$, respectively, when MSG was used as a substrate. Enterococcus avium M5 secretes a lot of GABA when grown on MRS with MSG, and the strain is useful for the production of fermented foods containing a high amount of GABA.
Crystal structures and magneto-optical properties of $(Mn_{0.5-Z}Sb_{0.5+Z})_{100-y}Pt_y$ (0$(Mn_{0.5-Z}Sb_{0.5+Z})_{100-y}Ag_y$ (0$^{\circ}C$ are C1b-type with fcc and NiAs-type with hcp, respectively. The MnSbAg films have a texture which the c-axis orientation is perpendicular to the film plane by annealing at 300 $^{\circ}C$ for less than 3 hours. The perpendicular anisotropy constants of the $Mn_{47.4}Sb_{47.5}Ag_{5.1}$ film annealed at 300 $^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours are $K_1=6.6{\times}10^5 \; erg/cm^3\;and\;K_2=1.9{\times}10^5\; erg/cm^3$. The Kerr rotation angle of MnSbPt films increases but that of MnSbAg film decreases by decreasing incident wavelength within the range of 700$\leq$ λ$\leq$1000 nm. High polar Kerr angles of 1.7$^{\circ}$ (λ =700 nm) and 0.6$^{\circ}$ (λ =1000 nm), 0.2$^{\circ}$ (λ =700 nm) and 0.97$^{\circ}$ (λ =1000 nm) have been obtained from $Mn_{41.1}Sb_{44,9}Pt_{14.0}$ and $Mn_{47.4}Sb_{47.5}Ag_{5.1}$ alloy films, respectively.
The biological activities of twelve different kinds of enzymatic browning reaction products(EBRP), which resulted from the reactants four kinds of polyphenols with polyphenol oxidase extracted from Ligularia fischeri, pimpinella brachycarpa and Aster scaber of edible mountain herbs. All of twelve samples did not show any mutagenic effect in the spore rec-assay, Ames mutagenicity test and DNA breaking test. However metal ions such as $Cu^{2+},\;Fe^{2+}$, and $Ni^{2+}$ were increased the DNA breakage in rec-assay. The EBRPs inhibited the mutagenicities induced by $benzo({\alpha})pyrene (B({\alpha})P)$, 3-amino-1,4-dimethyl-5H-pyrido-[4,3-b]indole(Trp-P-1) and 2-aminofluorene(2-AF) in Salmonella/microsome assay system with S-9 mix. In effects of EBRPs on the DNA repair system, the activity of EcoRI was highly inhibited and that of $T_{4}$ DNA ligase was inactivated by addition of EBRPs. The results of transformation ratio of plasmid pGA658 into E. coli HB 101 was significantly decreased by the reaction products of S. brachycarpa polyphenoloxidase (PPO). When UV light was exposed to the mixture of DNA and EBRP before the thanformation, the reaction products from L. fischeri PPO with pyrogallol, catechol and hydroxyhydroquinone stimulated transformation ratio.
