  • A Korea next-generation high-speed rail system represents a typical example of large- scale multi-disciplinary systems, consisting of subsystems such as train, electrical hardware, electronics, control, Information, communication, civil technology etc. The system design and acquisition data of the large-scale system must be the subject under strict configuration control and management. The system therefore, must be developed using systems engineering that is a efficient and effective methodology to design such a complex system and manage its development. This paper presents the results from a computer-aided systems engineering application to the Korea next generation high-speed railway project. Especially, the focus of the study was on requirement management and PBS management.

  • This paper presents a speed control of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) using an adaptive integral binary observer without speed and position sensors. In view of composition with a main loop regulator and an auxiliary loop regulator, the binary observer has a property of the chattering alleviation in the constant boundary layer. In order to improve the steady state performance of the binary observer, the proposed adaptive integral binary observer is formed by adding extra integral dynamics to the switching hyperplane equation. The effectiveness of the proposed system is conformed by the experimental results.

  • This paper presents a new speed sensorless control algorithm of a permanent magnet synchronous motor based on instantaneous reactive power. The proposed algorithm is constructed by instantaneous reactive power in the stationary reference frame and is not affected by mechanical motor parameters, because mechanical equation is not used. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by the experimental results.

  • In this research, we propose packet scheduling algorithm considering different QoS characteristics of real-time traffic and non-real-time traffic in the next generation wireless communication system serving the multimedia traffic and a new efficient framing method cooperated with this packet scheduler. When the selected traffic classes of the selected users are transmitted, our proposed framing method can increase the number of serviced traffic classes by mixing the many different traffic classes within one frame considering data rate decided by the allocated AMC (Adaptive Modulation and Coding) option. Using this proposed method, the fairness among the traffic classes can be achieved and the system performance for total throughput and delay can be enhanced. Simulations are performed to analyze the performance of the proposed framing method. Our proposed packet scheduler and framing method will be applied to the next generation multimedia wireless communication system serving many traffic classes.

  • This paper described the current status of machine tool technology and its future trends with a particular emphasis on high-speed machining. People in machine tool industry have continuously sought to serve fast-changing manufacturing industry with economical machining solutins. At presents, it appears that more productivity gain is demanded to shorten time-to-market and machining requirements become more stringent. In this regard, this paper firstly addressed a high-speed spindle as a key element for the next-generation machine tools. The sequel to it apparently went to high-speed feed axes and final discussion included the problem of how to optimize overall system including servo function. Lastly a brief look to NC technology including machine intelligence was taken.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate impact of computer-based man-machine interfaces of Korea Next Generation Reactor (KNGR) on the operator mental workload. Empirical experiments were conducted to measure the operator mental workloads of KNGR and Yong-Gwang Unit 3 and 4, respectively. A comparison analysis based on a NASA TLX revealed that Yong-Gwang Unit 3 and 4 were superior to KNGR in terms of the mental workload. Post-hoc analyses showed that the mental workload of senior reactor operators was significantly higher than those of reactor and turbine operators, regardless of plant types. The implications of the findings were discussed in detail.

  • In the next generation wireless mobile network, various methods are studied to offer interworking and mobility between various radio networks. To offer these harmoniously, network adaptation methods based on IP is generalized, and specifications of host-based mobility method with Mobile IPv4 and Mobile IPv6 to offer IP's mobility are defined in IETF specially. However, it is insufficient to satisfy quality of service that should be offered in wireless mobile network environment. Alternatively studies about Network-Based Mobility of Proxy Mobile IPv4, Proxy Mobile IPv6 etc. are preceded. This paper presents optimum plan that can offer mobility in the next generation radio transfer communication network by comparing and analyzing IP mobility methods divided by Host-based Mobility and Network-based Mobility.

  • Smart TV is approaching as a new media service to integrate the broadcasting and the internet according to the technology evaluation of convergence to broadcasting, telecommunication, and computing. Therefore, This paper proposes the next generation smart TV(Smart TV 2.0) technology based on CPNT which supports those services such as the broadcasting, telecommunication, a convergence of broadcasting & communication, and computer service through multi-screen.   • At recent, the Internet is evolving into the directions which is capable of incorporating stream-type services such as voice and video services due to the remarkable growth of WWW service and the development of new multimedia application services. However, the existing Internet can only support a best-effort delivery model and thus it is difficult to satisfy these requirements as well as to provide the QoS beyond a certain degree. Accordingly, it is imperative to develop QoS-based routing algorithm in order to allow flexible routing by the Internet user's QoS demand and to be applied into wide area networks. In this paper, we presented new routing algorithms for next generation Internet services and made performance evaluations. The proposed algorithms allow the routing by the user's QoS demand level in order to provide the diverse Internet application services based on ATM network environment that is expected to play a role as an infrastructure of next Generation Internet Services.
