  • Information on newspaper articles were categorized into different topics, and each categories within different topics were developed into a faceted taxonomies model which was combined with fundamental facets. After suggesting the plan to construct such a model, the research of actual faceted taxonomies were conducted. Faceted taxonomies divide information on news articles into different topics(such as politics, economies and others) and combine fundamental facets with categories(for example, politics can be sub-classified into general politics, administration, legal system, and others) and sub-categories. Each sub-categories can be further subdivided. In taxanomies, categories can have hierarchical relationships. Categories-Facets, for example, can be utilized to combine "arts" with "people", "action", "event", "time", "place" and others. And Sub-category of the classification of "arts" such as "art," "music," "dance" form hierarchical relationships with "arts" and, in turn, can be used for browsing and further inferences. Furthermore, combining category and facets results in hierarchical structure in order of fundamental facets. As for the pilot vocabulary construction, faceted taxonomies of 145 words from news paper articles on the topic of "arts" were constructed using all construction elements covered in this study.

What constituted family problems, and how those evolved over the period of drastic changes in the Korean society were examined, by analyzing articles published from the 1940s to the 1980s in the four major national newspapers in Korea. A total of 6542 articles related to family problems in the four newspapers, Chosun, Dong-A, Kyunghyang, and Seoul, were used for the content analysis of this study. The main categories of family problems were classified as poverty, marital issues, issues related to children and adolescents, elderly issues, problems in the family as an institution, and the so-called family-lag problem. Each of these categories consisted of several subcategories: The poverty-related problems included the problems caused by difficulty in making a living and instability of living, for example. The marital issues category consisted of conflicts between the couple, unfaithful spouses, domestic violence, divorce, and so on. Issues related to children and adolescents included juvenile delinquency, difficulty in bringing up children, child abuse, single motherhood, and underage household heads, for example. The elderly issues included the anxiety over the aging society, support for the elderly, conflicts between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, alienation of the elderly, etc. Problems in the family as an institution consisted of the legal issues in such areas as marriage, succession of the family head, and adoption. Lastly, the family-lag problem included confusion over family values, and conflict caused by the inconsistency between consciousness and actual behavior related to the family or family crisis. From the 1940s to the 1980s, family-lag was the most common problem (26.2% of the total articles), followed by issues related to children and adolescents (23.1%), poverty (16.2%), marital issues (15.9%), elderly issues (12.4%), and problems in the family as an institution (6.0%). Methods: After collecting artificial intelligence-and nursing-related news articles published between January 1, 1991, and July 24, 2022, keywords were extracted via preprocessing. A total of 3,267 articles were searched, and 2,996 were used for the final analysis. Text network analysis and topic modeling were performed using NetMiner 4.4. Results: As a result of analyzing the frequency of appearance, the keywords used most frequently were education, medical robot, telecom, dementia, and the older adults living alone. Keyword network analysis revealed the following results: a density of 0.002, an average degree of 8.79, and an average distance of 2.43; the central keywords identified were 'education,' 'medical robot,' and 'fourth industry.' Five topics were derived from news articles related to artificial intelligence and nursing: 'Artificial intelligence nursing research and development in the health and medical field,' 'Education using artificial intelligence for children and youth care,' 'Nursing robot for older adults care,' 'Community care policy and artificial intelligence,' and 'Smart care technology in an aging society.' Conclusion: The use of artificial intelligence may be helpful among the local community, older adult, children, and adolescents. • Retro fashion is emerging among young people as an approach to discovering a new meaning in Korea's historical culture. Research on Korea's unique retro fashion culture is required because there is no research on retro fashion culture based on Korea's historical background. Therefore, this study examined how retro fashion culture has progressed based on Korea's historical background from a nostalgic perspective. All retro-related newspaper articles from 1950 to 2020 were collected, and content analysis was conducted for each semantic unit. The results revealed that personal nostalgia is based on personal experience and is extending to younger generations. In terms of nostalgia in interpersonal relationships, the younger generation reinterpreted the fashion culture of the older generation after the 2010s. In terms of vicarious nostalgia, a retro culture reminiscent of the 1990s with a background in economic development and consumption culture appeared after 2012. The youth culture and university culture of the 1970s and 1980s were reinterpreted as street fashion. Since the late 2010s, the younger generation has been exhibiting cultural nostalgia, believing that the historical Korean culture is not outdated but has a unique heritage formed during the modernization process. Symbolic nostalgia appeared in Korean fashion culture during modernization.

  • This study analyzed newspaper reports in the United States and South Korea that focused on Parasite's unprecedented performance at the 2020 Academy Awards. The research focused on the power relationship between 'the established and the outsiders (Elias & Scotson, 1994)' as represented by the Academy Awards and Parasite, respectively. Qualitative content analysis and text analysis were conducted to examine the reporting of American and South Korean newspapers and illuminate three aspects of the power relations between the Academy Awards and Parasite. Three major findings were derived. First, the Academy traditionally has a reputation for marginalizing films with a non-English or Asian background, but recognition of Parasite at the 92nd ceremony changed the Academy's established position of power. Second, historically, the Academy Awards had been characterized by a group charisma that exerts stigmatization (through an English-oriented policy and language stigmatization) and accords North American films priority over non-English movies. Lastly, the reports of newspapers in the two countries are generally similar, but the Korean articles internalized the individual, society, and the state.

  • As of 2010, apartment occupies more than half of all houses in Korea. It took just half a century since 1960 when apartment was introduced to ordinary people for the first time. The apartment has spread over the nation very swiftly since then. This phenomena needs more inclusive explanations than the investigations into the government's policies or economical situations. Without satisfaction and consensus of people, the universal spread of apartment might be fairly unrealizable. In this vein, the research and analysis has been performed in order to grasp the picture of everyday life's discourse based on the related articles from five major newspapers and five women's magazines during 1960~1989. From the articles' discourses we tried to understand how modern apartment has been accepted and evaluated through people's living life in it. First, the discourse of living life was generated mostly by housewives through the comparison between apartment and traditional house. Second, the most influential aspect of apartment's popularization was the convenience of efficient housekeeping system by modern equipment and home appliance installed in apartment. This efficiency could allow housewives to perform various urban activities such as work, shopping, and simple going out. Third, the satisfaction from efficiency and privacy brought about a sense of alienation at the same time. As a result, the rapid proliferation of apartment in Korea could be attained not only by the institutional driving forces but through the fulfillments of Korean people's housing needs from modern everyday life.
