Reporting on Hallyu and Cultural Public Relations : Analysis of News Frame on Hallyu in the German Media (한류보도와 문화홍보 : 독일 언론의 한류보도 프레임 분석)

  • This study examined how German newspapers and magazines report Korean mass culture, specifically what content on Hallyu (Korean wave) was present and what news frames were used. External characteristics, the content attributes, report trend, and news frames on Hallyu in the German media were analyzed. According to the results, German media from 2009 to 2014 reported the least about Korean wave with only a total of 78 articles. The greatest amount of articles occurred in 2012 when by PSY was a global success. The most common Korean wave articles focused on film and K-pop, but not drama. Hallyu news showed mostly a positive trend. Additionally, a thematic frame was used. Content revealed that a culturally interesting frame was most common. In order to improve the Korea image in Germany, it is proposed that 'the mediated Culture PR' be adapted to German media.

Necessity of Adverse Event Reporting System through the Trend of Internet News about Safety of Herbal Medicine (한약의 안전성에 대한 인터넷 보도의 특성을 통해 본 한약 부작용 관리 체계 확립의 필요성)

  • Objective : The aims of this study are to investigate the trend of internet journalism about the toxicity and safety of the herbal medicine, and to suggest the regulatory solution of the issue. Method : In this study, we had searched the internet news article published from 2001 to 2011 in the five major portal sites-NAVER, DAUM, Nate, Google Korean, and Yahoo Korean. The search terms were 'herbal medicine', 'adverse event', 'toxicity'. If the articles described the same event in the same form and tone, the articles were considered overlapping. The overlapped articles were excluded. The articles were categorized by the form and tone. The form categories were straight news, interpretative story, editorial, interview, and the tone categories are the positive, the negative, and the neutral. The regulations were searched about the negative issue. Result : Total 56 articles were reviewed. There were 19 positive articles, 29 negative articles, 8 neutral articles. Most negative issues have the proper regulations, but insufficient measures for the adverse event reporting system. Conclusion : The herbal medicine specified adverse event reporting system is essential.

Futures Price Prediction based on News Articles using LDA and LSTM (LDA와 LSTM를 응용한 뉴스 기사 기반 선물가격 예측)

  • As research has been published to predict future data using regression analysis or artificial intelligence as a method of analyzing economic indicators. In this study, we designed a system that predicts prospective futures prices using artificial intelligence that utilizes topic probability data obtained from past news articles using topic modeling. Topic probability distribution data for each news article were obtained using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) method that can extract the topic of a document from past news articles via unsupervised learning. Further, the topic probability distribution data were used as the input for a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network, a derivative of Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) in artificial intelligence, in order to predict prospective futures prices. The method proposed in this study was able to predict the trend of futures prices. Later, this method will also be able to predict the trend of prices for derivative products like options. However, because statistical errors occurred for certain data; further research is required to improve accuracy.

Science News Frame: A Study of Longitudinal Framing Analysis for Biotechnology (과학뉴스(Science News)연구: 생명공학 뉴스의 장기적인 보도경향연구)

  • The study explores how Korea's major newspaper cover about science news, especially how newspaper frame biotechnology news including new source, news construction ways, coverage trend. The research has a research design to find out coverage pattern or model with frame theory. The result shows that the newspaper has some aspect of frame through out the biotechnology development in the section, theme, source, complexity. The section has been expend to the society and international section, while the theme shift from disease or cancer cure to life itself, genome, or stem cell. In the complexity, the biotechnology news stories have been developed a story plot (event-problem-development-solution). In the climax, the news coverage focuses on the explanation of biotechnology news.

A study on trends and predictions through analysis of linkage analysis based on big data between autonomous driving and spatial information (자율주행과 공간정보의 빅데이터 기반 연계성 분석을 통한 동향 및 예측에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, big data analysis method was used to find out global trends in autonomous driving and to derive activate spatial information services. The applied big data was used in conjunction with news articles and patent document in order to analysis trend in news article and patents document data in spatial information. In this paper, big data was created and key words were extracted by using LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation) based on the topic model in major news on autonomous driving. In addition, Analysis of spatial information and connectivity, global technology trend analysis, and trend analysis and prediction in the spatial information field were conducted by using WordNet applied based on key words of patent information. This paper was proposed a big data analysis method for predicting a trend and future through the analysis of the connection between the autonomous driving field and spatial information. In future, as a global trend of spatial information in autonomous driving, platform alliances, business partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, joint venture establishment, standardization and technology development were derived through big data analysis.

Comparative Analysis of News Articles related to Airlines and Staff the Previous Corona19(2019) and After Corona19(2020)

  • This study aims to analyze the number and trend of news media news through timely analysis of how the articles about airlines and employees show changes before and after Corona19 in the situation where the world economy faces various problems due to the global pandemic of Corona19. For this purpose, the number of articles and trends related to airlines and employees were analyzed and visualized before and after Corona19 using the Korea Press Foundation Bigkinds news analysis service. For this purpose, the Bigkinds service system was extracted from January 1, 2019 to May 31, 2019 and from January 1, 2020 to May 31, 2020. The results of the analysis showed that the number of articles before and after Corona 19 exploded when aviation related events occurred. And it was confirmed that the trend is changing due to the restructuring news. Government and airlines will need to make active efforts to overcome the crisis in the aviation industry due to the impact of Corona 19. The results of this study are significant in that it analyzed the number and trends related to news articles before and after Corona 19, and suggested practical implications for establishing strategies for the future impacts on airlines and employees.

The Study on Domestic Fashion Information Service Industry for Systematization of Fashion Trend Information Planning Process (패션정보기획의 체계화를 위한 국내 패션정보산업의 고찰)

  • The field of textile and fashion is regard to be sensitive to trend, however, the professional fashion information planning company for trend forecasting has not settled down in Korea. This study was designed to propose systemizing for fashion trend information planning in domestic fashion information service market. The empirical research was conducted by analysing in-depth interview data and news-scrap contents about each fashion information planning company. The result are as follows; First, fashion information service showed a little difference according to the type of fashion information companies, but they provided not only general fashion trends but also external market environmental information, survey-based consumer information and various segmented market research reports including academic information. Second, the fashion information planning process is largely divided into 3 stages; trend analysis, trend forecasting, trend application. The trend application step is the stage which connects the fashion information service industry to the fashion business. Thirdly, as a result of the competitive power evaluation for fashion information planning, the domestic fashion information planning companies came to reveal the fact that the possibility of carrying out and information analysis power were weak, however, how to present trend information had a relatively competitive. Consequently, this study is expected to play a role in understanding the importance of fashion trend information, and further ahead it would be helpful to organize the curriculum of fashion information planning subject in order to educate the future fashion executives.

A Study on Stock Trend Determination in Stock Trend Prediction

  • In this study, we analyze how stock trend determination affects trend prediction accuracy. In stock markets, successful investment requires accurate stock price trend prediction. Therefore, a volume of research has been conducted to improve the trend prediction accuracy. For example, information extracted from SNS (social networking service) and news articles by text mining algorithms is used to enhance the prediction accuracy. Moreover, various machine learning algorithms have been utilized. However, stock trend determination has not been properly analyzed, and conventionally used methods have been employed repeatedly. For this reason, we formulate the trend determination as a moving average-based procedure and analyze its impact on stock trend prediction accuracy. The analysis reveals that trend determination makes prediction accuracy vary as much as 47% and that prediction accuracy is proportional to and inversely proportional to reference window size and target window size, respectively.

Users' Reactions to Rape News Shared on Social Media: An Analysis of Five Facebook Reaction Buttons

  • This study investigated 3.50 million Facebook reactions collected from 9,429 Bangladeshi news items about rape shared on social media from 2016 to 2021. The primary aim of this study was to understand users' different reaction patterns based on the five major Facebook reactions (i.e., love, haha, wow, sad, and angry). Based on the theories of emotion, we quantitatively answer one research question: How do social media users react to rape with the five major Facebook reactions? The results suggest that users are more likely to express disdain toward rape and sympathy toward the victims using Facebook reactions by using the angry button, along with the sad button. In rape news, both reactions are consistent and maintain a strong positive correlation, meaning they increase and decrease together. Although many users tend to mock and laugh at rape incidents and the victims, trend lines suggest that such expressions may not be consistent with time. Despite contextual relevance, we presume that in socially and morally unacceptable events like rape and war, the valences of reactions alter to some extent: angry and sad usually become positive, while love, wow, and haha become negative. Some strengths and limitations of the study are discussed as well.
