The study aims to reveal the differences in the factors influencing portal news and news site application usages on smartphones in regard to political discussion networks, news use across multiple media platforms and news genre consumption. The results demonstrate that those factors affected both types of application usages in a different manner when controlling for demographics. The more participants conversed politics with homogeneous networks, the more they used portal news on smartphones. Conversely, the more political discussion with heterogeneous networks, the more they used news site application on smartphones. The more frequently Internet and mobile phone were employed for news source and the more soft news genre was consumed, the more the portal news application was used. However, the more frequently traditional and social media were employed for news source and the more hard news consumed, the more news site application was used. The findings imply that portal news application users may increase their likelihood of soft news consumption using Internet and mobile phones for political discussion with close social relations, while news site application users may increase their likelihood of hard news consumption using traditional and social media for political discussion with distant social relations.

The position of newspaper has been getting critical, since there are various new digital devices that can embody much information in only one device. Smart devices has risen the possible replacement of newspaper, while they are getting lighter and getting faster access to the information. However, there is lack of study on the application for smart devices, since it is at the early stage of development. In this study, the design method for the effective news application is considered by analyzing not only an external element, the layout design, but also an internal element, the content of it. Then, 20 domestic and foreign news applications were analyzed concentrating on the layout and the contents. Through the observation, I looked into what type of applications that can be deliver messages effectively. After the observation, participants are asked about their impressions and preferences of the applications. A news application for smart devices should not be just a mobile version of newspaper. If so, a news application never be able to leap over authority and popularity of the newspaper. So, it needs constant researches on an effective news application focused on the attribute of the smart devices to develop the news application for the devices.

To develop the broadcasting application for DMB, the programmers have to aggregate the content. In this case of content such as news, it would be hard to provide successively updated content. This paper introduces a creation system which can automatically create the news application for data broadcasting on DMB based on the web news content updated immediately. The designed creation system aggregates the news content using RSS based XML and produces the news application by transcoding the web content which can be applied on DMB.

Recently, there has been active research conducted on the intelligent agent in various fields. The results have been widely applied to intelligent user-friendly interfaces. In this system, we modeled, designed, and implemented an intelligent agent system that can be applied to stock and news. Some procedures such as login sequence to the web site, process to get stock information, setting stock in concern, intelligent news system module, news analysis module, and news learning module are modeled in detail and described in block diagram level. In our experiment on stock system, it showed quite a useful alarming screen avatar result and also on news system. it successfully rearranged the order of the news according to the user's preferences.

The proliferation of smart devices (such as smart phones and tablet PCs) has led to a marked increase in the use of mobile-based internet. As a result, the influence of the mobile internet has become important to make opinions on social issues. This study explores the effects of mobile internet news users' characteristics on formation of opinions about major political, economic and social issues. We used the data from the media audience awareness survey by the Korean Press Foundation in 2016 and 2017 in this analysis. The characteristics of the news users are gender, age, education, income, news usage days, news usage hours, media application usage days, news gathering application usage days, portal usage days, and media official website usage days. These characteristics are known as possible explanatory variables for the mobile internet news users. Multiple logistic regressions were done with interpretation to know which covariates affect on formation of major opinion.

Our modern 'information-hungry' age demands delivery of information at unprecedented fast rates. Timely delivery of noteworthy information about recent events can help people from different segments of life in number of ways. As world has become global village, the flow of news in terms of volume and speed demands involvement of machines to help humans to handle the enormous data. News are presented to public in forms of video, audio, image and text. News text available on internet is a source of knowledge for billions of internet users. Urdu language is spoken and understood by millions of people from Indian subcontinent. Availability of online Urdu news enable this branch of humanity to improve their understandings of the world and make their decisions. This paper uses available online Urdu news data to train machines to automatically categorize provided news. Various machine learning algorithms were used on news headline for training purpose and the results demonstrate that Bernoulli Naïve Bayes (Bernoulli NB) and Multinomial Naïve Bayes (Multinomial NB) algorithm outperformed other algorithms in terms of all performance parameters. The maximum level of accuracy achieved for the dataset was 94.278% by multinomial NB classifier followed by Bernoulli NB classifier with accuracy of 94.274% when Urdu stop words were removed from dataset. The results suggest that short text of headlines of news can be used as an input for text categorization process.

This study suggests the establishment and applications of the News core thesaurus for efficient indexing and searching of news information. News core thesaurus was constructed as macrothesauri which can cover all of news subjects and then has microthesauri like politics, economy, society, culture, etc. as its subsets. In this research, News core thesaurus embodied 2,012 descriptors and 74 non-descriptors by SKOS(Simple Knowledge Organization System). It suggests measures that treat only special subjects in detail in weekly newspaper or biweekly newspaper with little information and special subjects, which is not daily newspaper, and use each microthesauri by merging or integrating in huge news archives or portal sites.
