  • The purpose of this research is to analyze characteristics and related factors of IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) in newly built wooden houses by measuring pre and post occupancy. The subjects were five wooden houses which were built with similar materials and completed from July to December 2013. Measuring factors were TVOC, HCHO, PM10, $CO_2$, CO, indoor temperature, and relative humidity. As the result of pre occupancy measuring, the houses that revealed the lowest TVOC concentration or HCHO concentration were satisfied with "the standard for newly built apartment houses". Therefore, IAQ by the wooden structures is considered to be in good condition. However, in cases of partial value exceeded the standard, the reason is analyzed to be the materials of molding, wrapping doors, built-in closet, or kitchen furniture, etc. rather than structure materials. Most PM10 concentration level showed slightly below "the standard for occupied multi-use facilities". Remaining of construction dust was considered to be the reason. As the result of post occupancy measuring, every value except of one subject's TVOC concentration was lower than pre occupancy, explaining the importance of natural ventilation.

  • This study aimed at examining the effect of rooms decorated by eco-friendly finishing materials in a newly built wooden house on the emission of indoor air pollutions. According to the results of examination, the levels of benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and styrene in all the rooms were below criteria of indoor air quality of newly-constructed houses. The levels of natural volatile organic compounds (NVOC), anthropogenic volatile organic compounds (AVOC) and total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) in room R1-1 which had Hwangto wall covering on it, were relatively higher than in room phytoncide wallpaper covered R2-1. The room R2-2 where bamboo charcoal panel used for wall covering showed higher level of AVOC compared to the room R1-2. Living room R1-3 was found to contain less TVOC, compared to the other four rooms. In addition, the ratio of NVOC to TVOC in the living room was higher than in the other rooms. This seemed to be attributed to Cryptomeria Japonica the living room finished material.

  • This study is intended to derive the adaptive reuse techniques through the history and aspects of new construction, extension, repair, and other works, limited to the deep and narrow lots facing Seongan-gil and Nammun-gil in Nammun-ro 2 ga of Cheongju, the historic urban area. The results are as follows. 1) In the case of newly built reinforced concrete buildings, the central part of the top floor of the residence or all floors are opened to the open space(void) to facilitate lighting and ventilation. This is developed as a convection phenomenon due to the temperature difference from the slits between buildings, which affects the entire air flow of the block. 2) The buildings of extension and repair are composed of two-story masonry or steel frame, both the front store facing the road and the house on the back, but it looks like one because it is in contact with each other. If only a small gap between the front and rear buildings is restored to an external space or a space equipped with sun light, a small breath can be provided in lighting and ventilation. 3) The existing two-story wooden stores and houses have lost their external space due to repairs. With minimal intervention to restore the small courtyard, slits, and space under the eaves, it will not only improve lighting and ventilation, but also create a unique appearance as a segment of the elongated store.
