A Study on the Base Material Specific and Processing Methods of Recycled New Materials in Space (실내공간에 사용되는 재활용 신재료의 소재 및 가공방법 연구)

  • Nowadays the issue of environmental pollution and ecological destruction is not a simple issue but an important issue to be continuously considered. It is deemed that a study for recycled new materials is immediately required and this study is to analyze features and processing methods of new materials which can be used to interior space. We found the recycled new materials used for space through researching various web sits. And then we analyzed what the base materials are and classified that base materials are whether natural or artificial of the recycled materials. We classified processing methods of the recycled new materials after researching general processing methods. The result of this study would be an important material to the research and development of new finishing materials with consideration of environment and to the research for a guideline of applicable new materials. The results of this study are as follows : First, we could classify widely 2 categories into natural material and artificial material and then 10 subcategories into metal, glass, wood, rubber, stone, plastic, leather or fabric, ceramic, concrete and so on, and analyzed that which material is mostly used and whether it is single material or multiple material. In order to analyze the feature of processing method. Second, we could classify into 4 categories such as junction, surface process, molding, and insert, and found out which processing method is applied based on objects of research. Third, as an analysis result of the recycled new material feature, in order to develop various new materials, it is required to study on combination and application of 2 materials or more rather than single material. Four, as a analysis result of the processing method feature, I would like to suggest that development and application of various processing methods are required. Especially, it is necessary to grope for a way to develop new functional materials for interior space through a systemic research and analysis of processing method of other fields. Furthermore, a way to reuse recycled new materials should be considered in a stage of selection and application of processing method.

Development of New Freeway Capacity Estimation Method (고속도로의 용량산정 방법론 개발에 관한 연구)

  • PURPOSES : This study aimed to develop a new highway capacity estimation method and provide comparative results among traditional capacity estimation methods and the recommended values in the latest version of KHCM. METHODS : The limitations of the existing methods, such as inconsistency and underestimation of the capacity value, are summarized through an extensive literature review. To overcome these limitations, a new method is introduced by adopting a definition of capacity and traffic flow characteristics at or near breakdown points. This method can produce the capacity value by searching a point corresponding to the maximum traffic flow through analysis of gradient changes (point of inflection) of the traffic flow and speed distribution. Comparative results of capacity values from each method are also presented to validate the new method by using data collected from detectors on freeways. RESULTS: From the analysis results, it is shown that a consistent capacity value can be estimated by applying the new method. In addition, the resulting capacity values are 3%-4% higher than those recommended in KHCM. CONCLUSIONS : The capacity values listed in the current KHCM tend to produce underestimated results. The new method presented in this paper may be included in the future edition of KHCM.

Importance of Construction Sequence in Numerical Modeling for Underground Structure

  • When excavation under existing structure is planned for a new construction project, the underpinning method is one of the most applicable construction methods. This study introduces a new modified underpinning method which is applied to construct a new subway line in Seoul Metropolitan. The new subway line was designed to pass underneath the existing subway line. Existing subway line carries about 2 million passengers daily, which is 33% of total passengers using subway in Seoul, and is the only circulation line in Seoul. Subway trains are passing 540 times through this section in a day. By applying a new underpinning method, the subway box structure of line is exposed 54m in the air supported by bearing piles. The proposed method was carefully monitored using heavy instrumentation system during construction. This study proposed and verified the application of the modified underpinning method, which can reduce construction period by 1.5 times and the construction cost by 1.2 times comparing with conventional method. The importance of considering construction sequence is investigated and verified by analyzed data non-considering construction sequence. The unexpected heaving which can bring up a dangerous situation for train running stability were measured, so this study shows that the upward movement has to be analyzed in designing process. As the use of underground space increases, the proposed method can be a good example of underground development.

  • To the best of our knowledge, there is no method, in the literature, to find the fuzzy optimal solution of fully fuzzy shortest path (FFSP) problems i.e., shortest path (SP) problems in which all the parameters are represented by fuzzy numbers. In this paper, a new method is proposed to find the fuzzy optimal solution of FFSP problems. Kumar and Kaur [Methods for solving unbalanced fuzzy transportation problems, Operational Research-An International Journal, 2010 (DOI 10.1007/s 12351-010-0101-3)] proposed a new method with new representation, named as JMD representation, of trapezoidal fuzzy numbers for solving fully fuzzy transportation problems and shown that it is better to solve fully fuzzy transportation problems by using proposed method with JMD representation as compare to proposed method with the existing representation. On the same direction in this paper a new method is proposed to find the solution of FFSP problems and it is shown that it is also better to solve FFSP problems with JMD representation as compare to existing representation. To show the advantages of proposed method with this representation over proposed method with other existing representations. A FFSP problem solved by using proposed method with JMD representation as well as proposed method with other existing representations and the obtained results are compared.

  • A new driving method is proposed to reduce the address period. The scan time of new driving method overlaps with the next scan time during the discharge lag time. Thus, without reducing the address pulse width and the scan pulse width, the new addressing method can reduce the address period. The results show that the scan time of about 100ns ${\sim}$ 300ns can be overlapped without the misfiring,.

  • This paper proposes the method to extract new feature vectors using the difference between the cepstrum for static characteristics and delta cepstrum for dynamic characteristics in speaker recognition (SR). The difference vector (DV) which it proposes from this paper is containing the static and the dynamic characteristics simultaneously at the intermediate characteristic vector which uses the deference between the static and the dynamic characteristics and as the characteristic vector which is new there is a possibility of doing. Compared to the conventional method, the proposed method can achieve new feature vector without increasing of new parameter, but only need the calculation process for the difference between the cepstrum and delta cepstrum. Experimental results show that the proposed method has a good performance more than 2.03%, on average, compared with conventional method in speaker identification (SI).

  • According to the computerization of railway signalling systems. the communication protocol for interface between these systems are required. Therefore the new communication protocol for railway signaling system is required. Generally, there are two verification method for new designed protocol in the industrial and academic fields. One is the laboratory testing method which is very popular and general technique. In our research the comparison between existing and new designed protocol for signaling is described and the verification test results are also represented. From these laboratory test, we are verified the conformance of new designed protocol. Another method is verified by formal method. The format verification method is widely used at safety-critical system design but this approach is nor popular at verification communication protocol. However it is very important to verify the safety of new designed protocol for railway signaling system because signaling systems are very safety-critical systems. So, the methodology for formal verification of designed protocol is also reviews in this paper.

  • New time schemes based on the FEM were developed and their performances were tested with 2D wave equation. The least-squares and weighted residual methods are used to construct new time schemes based on traditional residual minimization method. To overcome some drawbacks that time schemes based on the least-squares and weighted residual methods have, ad-hoc method is considered to minimize residuals multiplied by others residuals as a new approach. And variational method is used to get necessary conditions of ad-hoc minimization. A-stability was chosen to check the stability of newly developed time schemes. Specific values of new time schemes are presented along with their numerical solutions which were compared with analytic solution.

A new block assembly method for shipbuilding at sea

  • In this paper, we introduce a new method for assembly of shipbuilding blocks at sea and present its feasibility focusing on structural safety. The core concept of this method is to assemble ship building blocks by use of bolting, gluing and welding techniques at sea without dock facilities. Due to its independence of dock facilities, shipyard construction capability could be increased considerably by the proposed method. To show the structural safety of this method, a bulk carrier and an oil tanker were employed, and we investigated the structural behavior of those ships to which the new block assembly method was applied. The ship hull models attached with connective parts are analyzed in detail through finite element analyses, and the cargo capacity of the bulk carrier is briefly discussed as well. The results of these studies show the potential for applying this new block assembly method to practical shipbuilding.

Development of Estimation Method of Sensing Ability According to Smart Sensor Types (지적센서 형태에 따른 센싱능력 분석기법 개발)

  • This paper deals with sensing ability of smart sensor that has a sensing ability of distinguish materials. We have developed new signal processing method that have distinguish different materials. We made the two type of smart sensors for experiment. The first type of smart sensor is H2 type. The second type of smart sensor is HH type. The smart sensor was developed for recognition of material. And then we developed estimation method of sensing ability of smart sensors. The first method(Sensing Ability Index) is developed for H2 smart sensor. The second method($R_{SAI}$ Index) is developed for HH smart sensor. We estimated sensing ability of smart sensor with new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ method. This paper describes our primary study for a new method of estimate sensing ability of smart sensor, which is need for precision work system. This is a study of dynamic characteristics of smart sensor according to frequency and displacement changing with new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ method. Experiment and analysis are executed for proper dynamic sensing condition. First, we developed advanced smart sensors. Second, we develop new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ methods that have a sensing ability of distinguish materials. Dynamic characteristics of smart sensor are evaluated through new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ method relatively. We can use the new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ method for finding materials. Applications of this method are finding abnormal condition of object(auto-manufacturing), feeling of object(medical product), robotics, safety diagnosis of structure, etc.
