새로운 개념의 드릴에 의한 구멍가공시 버 형성에 관한 연구 (Analysis on Burr Formation in Drilling with New Concept Drill)

  • A new concept drill was developed recently (or increasing accuracy and productivity in drilling operation. The burr formation in drilling causes many problems in deburring operation because burrs are formed inside holes and it is difficult to remove them. Burr formations are observed in drilling operation with a new concept drill and are compared with conventional HSS drill. Several workpieces with different materials are drilled with several cutting conditions, velocity and feed rate. The burr in drilling can be classified into three types according to the location of crack. To observe the burr formation mechanism, the cap which is formed with the new concept drill is observed and measured.

  • 탑 드라이브 장비는 드릴 비트에 회전력을 전달하여 굴착을 하게하는 장치이며, 1983년 Derrick Drilling Machine의 Kelly Rotary Table로 시작하여, 1984년에 DDM 650 DC가 등장함으로써 본격적으로 개발 되기 시작했다. 이러한 탑 드라이브 장비는 미국의 N사와 노르웨이 A사가 전 세계 시장의 90% 이상을 점유하고 있으며, 이로 인하여 탑 드라이브 장비의 세계시장 진입과 장비에 대한 정보가 제한적일 수 밖에 없다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 제한된 정보를 통하여 신뢰성을 가지는 제품을 개발하기 위한 절차 및 방법에 대하여 소개하고자 한다. 설계 오류 및 신뢰성이 검증된 제품 디자인을 위하여 3D Tool을 사용하였으며, 이를 활용하여 설계오류, 간섭체크, 기능체크, 구조강도 해석 등을 수행하여 제품의 신뢰성을 사전 검증 하였다.

Deep Borehole Disposal of Nuclear Wastes: Opportunities and Challenges

  • The concept of deep borehole disposal (DBD) for high-level nuclear wastes has been around for about 40 years. Now, the Department of Energy (DOE) in the United States (U.S.) is re-examining this concept through recent studies at Sandia National Laboratory and a field test. With DBD, nuclear waste will be emplaced in boreholes at depths of 3 to 5 km in crystalline basement rocks. Thinking is that these settings will provide nearly intact rock and fluid density stratification, which together should act as a robust geologic barrier, requiring only minimal performance from the engineered components. The Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (NWTRB) has raised concerns that the deep subsurface is more complicated, leading to science, engineering, and safety issues. However, given time and resources, DBD will evolve substantially in the ability to drill deep holes and make measurements there. A leap forward in technology for drilling could lead to other exciting geological applications. Possible innovations might include deep robotic mining, deep energy production, or crustal sequestration of $CO_2$, and new ideas for nuclear waste disposal. Novel technologies could be explored by Korean geologists through simple proof-of-concept experiments and technology demonstrations.

  • The Asia-Pacific Region has emerged as a arena of geopolitical competition between the U.S. and China. The Obama administration of the U.S. had laid out the concept of rebalancing strategy toward the region, concentrating its 60 percent of Naval Forces to the region till 2020 and consolidating its network of allies and partners. Whereas Chinese leader Xi Jinping also put forward the concept of new type of major power relations concerning its relations with the U.S. and a concept of 'the Asian Community of Common Destiny' aiming at a more intensified mutual relation among countries in the region. In doing so, Asia-Pacific region gradually became the arena where mutual competition and cooperation between the U.S. and China has crossfired. As a close ally to the U.S. and a partner to Japan, South Korea should develop trilateral naval cooperation by holding joint naval drill with the aim of humanitarian support and disaster relief. At the same time, Seoul also should make efforts to proceed mutual confidence building with Beijing by deepening military-to-military cooperation. These policy options will be helpful to enhance Seoul's security posture in the region.

A new model for curbing filtrate loss in dynamic application of nano-treated aqueous mud systems

  • Filter cake formation during rotary drilling operation is an unavoidable scenario, hence there is need for constant improvement in the approaches used in monitoring the cake thickness growth in order to prevent drill-string sticking. This study proposes an improved model that predicts the growth of mud cake thickness overtime with the consideration of the addition of nanoparticles in the formulated drilling fluid system. Ferric oxide, titanium dioxide and copper oxide nanoparticles were used in varying amounts (2 g, 4 g and 6 g), and filtration data were obtained from the HPHT filtration test. The filter cakes formed were further analyzed with scanning electron microscope to obtain the morphological characteristics. The data obtained was used to validate the new filtrate loss model. This model specifically presents the concept of time variation in filter cake formation as against the previous works of constant and definite time. Regression coefficient which is a statistical measure was used to validate the new model and the predicted results were compared with the API model. The new model showed R2 values of 99.9%, and the predictions from the proposed filtration model can be said to be more closely related to the experimental data than that predicted from the API model from the SSE and RMSE results.

Motion and Sloshing Analysis for New Concept of Offshore Storage Unit

  • A New concept for the LNG-FPSO ship, with moonpool and bilge step in bottom, is proposed. This concept is investigated with regard to motion reduction and sloshing phenomena of the cargo and operation tanks. The principal dimensions of the ship are $L\timesb B\times D\times t(design)=270.0\times51.0\times32.32\times13.7(m)$, with a total cargo capacity of 161KT; a 98% loading condition is considered for this study. The moonpools and rectangular step at the bilge have been designed for the purpose of decreasing the motion within the tank. For the motion analysis, linearized three-dimensional diffraction theory, with the simplified boundary condition was used. The six-degree of freedom coupled motion responses were calculated for the LNG-FPSO ship. Viscous effects on the roll motion responses of a vessel were taken into account in this calculation program, using an empirical formula suggested by Himeno(1981). The case study for the moonpool size has been conducted using theoretical estimation and the experimental method. For the optimization of the moonpool size and effect of the bilge step, 9 cases of its size, both with and without bilge step, were involved in the study. no motion responses, especially roll motion, for the designed LNG-FPSO ships are much lower than those of other drill ships and shuttle tankers. The limit criterions are satisfied. To check the cargo tank and operation tank sizes, we performed a sloshing analysis in the irregular waves which focuses on the pressure distribution on the tank wall and the time history of pressure and free surface for No.2 and 5 tanks of LNG-FPSO with chamfers. Finally, optimum tank sire was estimated.

천공저항시험에 의한 콘크리트 터널라이닝의 역학적 특성 추정 (Estimation of the Mechanical Properties of the Concrete Tunnel Lining by Drilling Resistance Test)

  • 화재 후 터널 구조물의 신속한 복구를 위하여 화재손상 구간을 정확하고 빠르게 파악하는 것이 무엇보다도 중요하다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 화재로 인한 라이닝 콘크리트의 역학적 특성 변과를 라이닝의 두께방향으로 연속적으로 측정하기 위한 천공저항시험법을 제안하고, 천공시험으로부터 측정된 천공 변수들로부터 모르타르와 콘크리트의 역학적 특성을 추정하고자 하였다. 비교적 균질한 모르타르에 대하여 일련의 천공저항시험을 실시한 결과, 분당회전수가 1,300rpm, 관입속도가 1.40mm/sec, 그리고 비트직경이 10mm인 경우에 측정된 천공 반력값의 편차가 가장 작게 나타나 최적의 시험조건으로 판별할 수 있었다. 최적 시험조건에서 모르타르에 대해 천공저항시험을 실시한 결과, 천공반력과 모르타트의 압축강도 및 탄성계수 사이의 결정계수가 각각 0.91 및 0.93으로 나타나 양호한 상관관계를 도출할 수 있었다. 또한 콘크리트에 존재하는 골재의 영향을 고려하기 위하여 반력 에너지 개념을 제시하였고 실제 압축강도와의 결정계수는 0.94로서 역시 양호한 상관관계를 도출할 수 있었다. 이상과 같이 천공 비트의 관입과 동시에 연속적으로 재료의 역학적 특성을 추정할 수 있는 천공저항시험의 적용 가능성을 파악할 수 있었다.
