The present paper relates to an integration power system combining tidal power generation and ocean current power generation, and more particularly, to an integration power system combining a tidal power plant and two ocean current power parks, which is capable of increasing the operating rate of power facilities and efficiently generating electrical energy by using incoming seawater into the lake through turbine generators of a tidal power plant or fast flow of seawater discharged to a sea side through sluice gates of a tidal power dam. It is shown that the integration power system is a new promising ocean power system and the ocean current turbine generators in the ocean current power parks of the integration power system are smaller in size and larger in power generation capacity compared with the tidal current turbine generators in the ocean.
The integrated power system combining a tidal power plant and two ocean current power parks is suggested. It is characterized by the set up of an ocean current power park in the lake side by installing a number of ocean current turbines generating electricity by using sea water flow discharged into the lake side from the turbine generator of a tidal power plant and an ocean current power park in the sea side by installing a number of ocean current turbines generating electricity by using sea water flow exiting into the sea side through the sluice gate from the lake side. The vision of the integrated power system is demonstrated by the simple theory and simulation results of the SIWHA Tidal Power Plant. And it is shown that the newly proposed integrated power system combining tidal power and ocean current power can produce very high economical benefits.
The Samcheonpo ocean small hydropower plant (SHP) has a special feature of using marginal hydraulic head of circulating water system of fossil fuel power plant as a power source and having the characteristics of general hydropower generation and tidal power generation as well. Also, it contributes to reducing green house gases and developing clean energy source by recycling circulating water energy otherwise dissipated into the ocean. The efficiency of small hydropower plant is directly affected by effective head and flow rate of discharged water. Therefore, the efficiency characteristics of ocean hydropower plant are analyzed with the variation of water level and flow rate of discharged water, which is based on the accumulated operation data of the Samcheonpo hydropower plant. After the start of small hydropower plant operation, definite rise of water level was observed. As a result of flow pattern change from free flow to submerged flow, the instability of water surface in overall open channel is increased but it doesn't reach the extent of overflowing channel or having an effect on circulation system. Performance evaluation result shows that the generating power and efficiency of small hydropower exceeds design requirements in all conditions. Analysis results of CWP's water flow rate verify that the amount of flowing water is measured less and the highest efficiency of small hydropower plant is achieved when the effective head has its maximum value. In conclusion, efficiency curve derived from water flow rate considering tidal level shows the best fitting result with design criteria curve and it is verified that overall efficiency of hydropower system is satisfactory.
The tidal pi lot plant is being built in the Uldolmok waterway using Its strong tidal current with maximum current of about 12knots, which is revealed from the first direct observation using ADCP, on February, 2002. a serious of field observations (for example, ADCP observation was tarried out both at February 2002 and September, 2003), along with numerical modeling, have been carried out over the last several years, in order to understand the tidal dynamics and to examine the related variables according to the tidal current power plant (TCPP) operation.
Design of ocean fishways as eco-movement passages for turbine structures, sluice structures and barrages of a environmentally-friendly tidal power system through which fish can pass are suggested. The ocean fishways comprise a plurality of fishways to allow fish to move between the sea-side and the lake-side of the barrages and turbine structures and sluice structures. It is demonstrated that the inventive ocean fishways are cost effective to construct and environmentally-friendly eco-movement passages for fish and benthos to move between sea-side and lake-side without passing through the turbine blades of a tidal power plant in operation.

This research analyzed the current situation and problems with an environmental impact assessment to provide a rational ocean physics assessment technique for power plant thermal effluent. This research also tried to create an improvement plan for heated effluent diffusion impact assessment by examining the reporting regulations for environmental impact assessment, national and international evaluation guidelines, etc. In the case of evaluating the oceanographic impact of heated effluent discharged from power plants, a pre-investigation is necessary before a full-scale presentence investigation, to accurately predict and minimize power plant construction effects on the surrounding environments. Before this presentence investigation, moreover, an integrated presentence plan, which agrees with the business plan, effect prediction, and post-investigation, needs to be established. A sufficient summit investigation must be made, which considers climate changes, and new and additional power plant construction. For accurate long-term oceanic environmental change prediction, the credibility of effect prediction must be elevated by presenting an evaluation method that is categorized by numerical organization models, verification methods, result presentation, and other things. Furthermore, unproductive conflicts between the people involved in heated effluent evaluation should be reduced by these improvement plans.

Environmental regulations have recently been strengthened. Consequently, floating LNG(Liquefied Natural Gas) power plants are being developed, which are new power generation plants that generate electricity by utilizing LNG. A floating LNG power plant generates BOG(Boil-Off Gas) during its operation, and the system design of such a plant should be capable of removing or re-liquefying BOG. However, the design of an offshore plant differs according to the marine requirements. Hence, a process simulation model of the BOG re-liquefaction system is needed, which can be continuously modified to avoid designing the floating LNG power plant through trial and error. In this paper, to develop a model appropriate for the floating LNG power plant, a commercial process simulation program was employed. Depending on the presence of refrigerants, various BOG re-liquefaction systems were modeled for comparing and analyzing the re-liquefaction rates and liquid points of BOG. Consequently, the BOG re-liquefaction system model incorporating nitrogen refrigerants is proposed as the re-liquefaction system model for the floating LNG power plant.

Because of its predictability of the energy cycle and huge scale power output, the ocean energy from tidal power utilization has always received attention as a great energy source, even though its development cost, including the embankment construction, is so much higher than that of any other energy source. Nevertheless, nowadays many projects are being planned on account of institutional support from the government and the recent advance of construction technology. In Korea, the new industry field operating and managing the tidal power plant has already opened. But we are facing a number of problems for optimal operation of tidal power plant that are a lack of operation experience and a skill of professional management and others. This paper suggests a novel way to determine the starting head of power generation by generating power comparison method For this new method, the paper discusses many factors including changing the volume of the basin, the number of operating turbines and gates and forecasting the tidal amplitude and the characteristic curve of turbine and gate. Finally we verified that it can increase about 2% an annual power generation compared with the conventional method using the original operational function made in the plant design process.
This paper presents a new design concept for ocean nuclear power plants (ONPPs) using a tension leg platform (TLP). The system-integrated modular advanced reactor, which is one of the successful small modular reactors, is mounted for demonstration. The authors define the design requirements and parameters, modularize and rearrange the nuclear and other facilities, and propose a new total general arrangement. The most fundamental level of design results for the platform and tendon system are provided, and the construction procedure and safety features are discussed. The integrated passive safety system developed for the gravity based structure-type ONPP is also available in the TLP-type ONPP with minor modifications. The safety system fully utilizes the benefits of the ocean environment, and enhances the safety features of the proposed concept. For the verification of the design concept, hydrodynamic analyses are performed using the commercial software ANSYS AQWA with the Pierson-Moskowitz and JONSWAP wave spectra that represent various ocean environments and the results are discussed.
