  • This paper investigated a new type of low voltage threshold switch (LVTS). As distinguished from the many other types of electronic threshold switches, the LvTS is ; voltage controlled, occurs at low voltages ($V_{2}$ $O_{5}$lV devices. The average low threshold voltage < $V_{LVT}$>=218 mV (standard deviation =24mV~kT/q, where T=300K), and was independent of the device area (x100) and amorphous oxide occurred in an ~22.angs. thick interphase of the V/amorphous- $V_{2}$ $O_{5}$ contacts. At $V_{LVT}$ there was a transition from an initially low conductance (OFF) state into a succession of quantized states of higher conductance (ON). The OFF state was spatically homogeneous and dominated by tunneling into the interphase. The ON state conductances were consistent with the quantized conductances of ballistic transport through a one dimensional, quantum point contact. The temeprature dependence of $V_{LVT}$, and fit of the material parameters (dielectric function, barrier energy, conductivity) to the data, showed that transport in the OFF and ON states occurred in an interphase with the characteristics of, respectively, semiconducting and metallic V $O_{2}$. The experimental results suggest that the LVTS is likely to be observed in interphases produced by a critical event associated with an inelastic transfer of energy.rgy.y.rgy.

  • In this paper, we propose a new evaluation methodology which can more clearly show the performance of the allophone modeling algorithm generally used in large vocabulary speech recognition. The proposed evaluation method shows the running characteristics and limitations of the modeling algorithm by testing how the variation of phonetic environments of training data affects the recognition performance and the desirable number of free parameters to be estimated. Using the method, we experiment results, we conclude that, in vocabulary-independent recognition task, the phonetic diversity of training data greatly affects the robustness of model, and it is necessary to develop a proper measure which can determine the number of states compromizing the robustness and the precision of the HMnet better than the conventional modeling efficiency.

  • A new channel simulation method for the urban mobile radio communication is proposed based on the Aulin's mathematical model which is suitable for urban areas. The proposed method maintains advantage of Jakes Method which is readily implemented in hardware and simulated well various channel states, and solves the problem that measured power spectrum generated by Jakes method does not agree with practical power spectrum. It has been shown by simulation; that good agreements between measured values generated by the proposed method and theoretical values for autocorrelation, LCR, ADF and power spectrum are obtained and that method can easily produce several independent fading signals.

  • This paper presents a delay-dependent approach to robust filtering for linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems with discrete and distributed time-invariant delays in the states and outputs. It is assumed that the state-space matrices affinely depend on parameters that are measurable in real-time. Some new parameter-dependent delay-dependent stability conditions are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) such that the filtering process remains asymptotically stable and satisfies a prescribed $H_{\infty}$ performance level. Using polynomially parameter-dependent quadratic (PPDQ) functions and some Lagrange multiplier matrices, we establish the parameter-independent delay-dependent conditions with high precision under which the desired robust $H_{\infty}$ filters exist and derive the explicit expression of these filters. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed design approach.

  • In this paper, a memory organization and its control method are proposed for the implementation of parallel Virterbi decoders. The design is mainly focused on lowering the hardware complexity of a parallel Viterbi decoder which is to reduce the decoding speed. The memories requeired in a Viterbi decoder are the SMM(State Metric Memory) and the TBM(Traceback Memory);the SMM for storing the path metrics of states and the TBM for storing the survial path information. A general parallel Viterbi decoder for high datarate usually consists of multiple ACS (Add-Compare-Select) units and their corresponding memeory modules.for parallel ACS units, SMMs and TBMs are partitioned into smaller independent pairs of memory modules which are separately interleaved to provide the maximum processing speed. In this design SMMs are controlled with addrss generators which can simultaneously compute addresses of the new path metrics. A bit shuffle technique is employed to provide a parallel access to the TBMs to store the survivor path informations from multiple ACS modules.

  • The reason that we are familiar with fashion from the 1950s is because of the work such as New Look done by a french fashion designer, Christian Dior who had taken on an almost mythical significance by his name. Moreover, in the sense of popularity, the appearance of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, two typical Hollywood actresses who each has directly-opposed image, is the symbol of youthful America of the 1950s and represents the remarkable start of the American fashion. Still, these days designers and mass medias recall the fashion from the 50s remaking and parodying it to suit public's taste. Being due to the World War II, Europe suffered not only the loss of its national tradition and reputation but also got a fatal blow politically and economically. On the other hand, the United States of America occupied a primary position in the world and outstandingly became the most powerful country. The American fashion of the 1950s represents youth and newness and rejects outdated and outmoded style. In this period, appears the indication which announces previously the youth culture. Poodle skirt is the fashion item that acquired popularity among young american women and girls in the late 1950s. In effect, it is the fashion as American as apple pie. A costly A-line skirt had been transformed into a cheap felt skirt. Instead of a real poodle dog which was carried by French women like an accessory, they embroidered a poodle dog on the lower edge of their skirt. As deriding the snobbish gait, they swayed themselves frantically to the rhythm of Rock n' Roll which swept those days. This was an attitude of young Americans against the existing trend of Europe. Poodle skirt showed the free spirit and intention of young people unbound to custom and established vogue. In addition, in the aspect of comprising the American spirit of independent, pioneer, and subjective American people, it goes beyond the bounds of common concept of fad. Poodle skirt is an unique symbol of the 1950s' American fashion which prognosticates the advent of the United States and the success in modern fashion world which was changing after 1950s.

  • This article attempts to analyze the changes and prospects of the Northeast Asian security environment in the era of New-Cold War & multipolarity that has been spreading since the outbreak of the US-China strategic competition and the war in Ukraine. Since the war in Ukraine, changes in the new strategic triangle between the United States, China, and Russia have begun to have an unprecedented impact on the Northeast Asian security environment. This article analyzes how the two factors, the U.S.-China strategic competition and the war in Ukraine, have led to changes in the Northeast Asian security environment. More specifically, the recent changes and prospects of the China-Russia-North Korea triangle and the three bilateral relationships, China-Russia, China-North Korea, and Russia-North Korea. To analyze this research topic, the research design is based on three variables: independent, mediating, and dependent variables. The independent variables are changes in U.S.-China relations and changes in U.S.-Russia relations. The mediating variables are the US-China strategic competition and the war in Ukraine. On the one hand, the confrontation between the U.S.-China relationship led to a strategic competition, and on the other hand, the conflict between the U.S.-Russia relationship led to the war in Ukraine. In addition, the two independent variables can only be influenced by the two mediating variables. In particular, we assume that the domestic political factors of the three major powers, the United States, China, and Russia, played a significant role in causing the two mediating variables. The independent variables and mediating variables work together to promote the Northeast Asian security crisis. As a result, threats to the Northeast Asian security environment have emerged as the dependent variable. The dependent variables are the North Korea-China-Russia triangle, changes in the three bilateral relationships within the triangle, and the confrontation of Northern Triangle versus Southern Triangle. The first mediating variable, strategic competition, has led to several changes in the Northeast Asian security environment: the quasi-alliance of Sino-Russian relations, the restoration and strengthening of North Korea-China relations, the strengthening of trilateral security cooperation between the United States, Japan and South Korea, and the increasing necessity of Sino-Russian-North Korean trilateral cooperation. The second mediating variable, the war in Ukraine, has led to the strengthening of Sino-Russian relations, re-alignment of North Korea-Russia relations, the promotion of the US-Japan-ROK triangular alliance, and the emergence of the China-Russia-North Korea triangular cooperation.

  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a lethal neurological disorder characterized by the deterioration of motor neurons. The aim of this study was to investigate alteration of cationic amino acid transporter (CAT-1) activity in the transport of lysine and the pretreatment effect of lysine on pro-inflammatory states in an amyotrophic lateral sclerosis cell line. The mRNA expression of cationic amino acid transporter 1 was lower in NSC-34/hSOD1G93A (MT) than the control cell line (WT), lysine transport is mediated by CAT-1 in NSC-34 cell lines. The uptake of [3H]L-lysine was Na+-independent, voltage-sensitive, and strongly inhibited by inhibitors and substrates of cationic amino acid transporter 1 (system y+). The transport process involved two saturable processes in both cell lines. In the MT cell line, at a high-affinity site, the affinity was 9.4-fold higher and capacity 24-fold lower than that in the WT; at a low-affinity site, the capacity was 2.3-fold lower than that in the WT cell line. Donepezil and verapamil competitively inhibited [3H]L-lysine uptake in the NSC-34 cell lines. Pretreatment with pro-inflammatory cytokines decreased the uptake of [3H]L-lysine and mRNA expression levels in both cell lines; however, the addition of L-lysine restored the transport activity in the MT cell lines. L-Lysine exhibited neuroprotective effects against pro-inflammatory states in the ALS disease model cell lines. In conclusion, studying the alteration in the expression of transporters and characteristics of lysine transport in ALS can lead to the development of new therapies for neurodegenerative diseases.

  • Housekeeping genes are widely used as internal controls in a variety of study types, including real time RT-PCR, microarrays, Northern analysis and RNase protection assays. However, even commonly used housekeeping genes may vary in stability depending on the cell type or disease being studied. Thus, it is necessary to identify additional housekeeping-type genes that show sample-independent stability. Here, we used statistical analysis to examine a large human microarray database, seeking genes that were stably expressed in various tissues, disease states and cell lines. We further selected genes that were expressed at different levels, because reference and target genes should be present in similar copy numbers to achieve reliable quantitative results. Real time RT-PCR amplification of three newly identified reference genes, CGI-119, CTBP1 and GOLGAl, alongside three well-known housekeeping genes, B2M, GAPD, and TUBB, confirmed that the newly identified genes were more stably expressed in individual samples with similar ranges. These results collectively suggest that statistical analysis of microarray data can be used to identify new candidate housekeeping genes showing consistent expression across tissues and diseases. Our analysis identified three novel candidate housekeeping genes (CGI-119, GOLGA1, and CTBP1) that could prove useful for normalization across a variety of RNA-based techniques.
