  • Our study aims to investigate the determinants of international competitiveness and international specialization in services, using OECD service trade data. Real exchange rates, world demand, economies of scale, diffusion of IT, human capital, R&D expenditure and institutional variables are introduced as explanatory variables in regressions for 29 OECO countries over $1996{\sim}2003$. Some of major findings from the study can be summarized as follows. First, economies of scale play important role in transport and business services. Second, the index of freedom to trade measured by Faster Institute has a positive and significant impact on international competitiveness in telecommunication, finance and insurance and business services. Third, IT provides favorable condition to build international competitiveness in finance and insurance and business services. Fourth, R&D expenditure contributes to the amelioration of international competitiveness in transport services, while investment in new equipments contributes to increasing the competitiveness in telecommunication services. Thus, our results show the importance of the industrial base for developing a competitive service economy.

  • This paper was tried to show the improvement model for software industry structure in Korea regarding to have the global level of competence in Korean software firms. To suggest the improvement model for software industry structure, the detailed status about software industry which as in the supply and demand perspectives and comparativeness dimension were analysed. Also to this model the special survey results from the 35 professionalists in the software industry were included. This improvement model suggests the big software firms have to consider the economy of the scale, and to enter global IT market, the other SMEs have to pursuit themselves as a specified technology firms. So it is good for the oversea project collaboration with the solution provider firms and IT service firms. And it is desirable to make a the economy of scale regarding as the solution venture startup, M&A, networking the software firms as supply chain. Also the development of new business model for new market and firms with the high-tech business competency will be required.

  • Due to the development of network and device, it is called mobile age that boosts various distribution routes of multi-media content and it constructs a new digital content consumption trend. N-screen is one of the new-introduced examples in the digital age and broadcasting industry believes it as a crisis and challenge as well. It becomes a ubiquitous multi-media environment that people watch multi-media content everywhere and any time they want to and competition happens beyond the boundaries such as network industry, terminal industry, pay TV market, traditional terrestrial TV, etc. And then how should the broadcasting service prepare for the N-screen business? The present research proposes a few terrestial broadcasting content strategies in the multi platform environment. First, instead of N-screen, it proposes multi platform, especially One Source Multi Platform(OSMP). Second, so-called 'Integrated Terrestrial Broadcasting OSMP Alliance(IBPA)' must be founded. Third, IBPA should support multi-tasking UX for viewers to have rich experience. Last, it becomes more important and necessary to support local terrestrial broadcasting service for public service in the multi platform age.

  • New Zealand suffers from regular floods, these being the most common source of insurance claims for damage from natural hazard events in the country. This paper describes the origin and distribution of the largest floods in New Zealand, and describes the systems used to monitor and predict floods. In New Zealand, broad-scale heavy rainfall (and flooding), is the result of warm moist air flowing out from the tropics into the mid-latitudes. There is no monsoon in New Zealand. The terrain has a substantial influence on the distribution of rainfall, with the largest annual totals occurring near the South Island's Southern Alps, the highest mountains in the country. The orographic effect here is extreme, with 3km of elevation gained over a 20km distance from the coast. Across New Zealand, short duration high intensity rainfall from thunderstorms also causes flooding in urban areas and small catchments. Forecasts of severe weather are provided by the New Zealand MetService, a Government owned company. MetService uses global weather models and a number of limited-area weather models to provide warnings and data streams of predicted rainfall to local Councils. Flood monitoring, prediction and warning are carried out by 16 local Councils. All Councils collect their own rainfall and river flow data, and a variety of prediction methods are utilized. These range from experienced staff making intuitive decisions based on previous effects of heavy rain, to hydrological models linked to outputs from MetService weather prediction models. No operational hydrological models are linked to weather radar in New Zealand. Councils provide warnings to Civil Defence Emergency Management, and also directly to farmers and other occupiers of flood prone areas. Warnings are distributed by email, text message and automated voice systems. A nation-wide hydrological model is also operated by NIWA, a Government-owned research institute. It is linked to a single high resolution weather model which runs on a super computer. The NIWA model does not provide public forecasts. The rivers with the greatest flood flows are shown, and these are ranked in terms of peak specific discharge. It can be seen that of the largest floods occur on the West Coast of the South Island, and the greatest flows per unit area are also found in this location.

  • A new medium access control (MAC) scheme embedding physical channels into multiband carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) networks is proposed to provide strict quality of service (QoS) guarantee to high priority users. In the proposed scheme, two priority classes of users, primary and secondary users, are supported. For primary users physical channels are provided to ensure strict QoS, whereas secondary users are provided with best-effort service using CSMA/CA modified for multiband operation. The performance of the proposed MAC scheme is investigated using a new multiband CSMA/CA Markov chain model capturing the primary user activity and the operation of secondary users in multiple bands. The throughput of secondary users is obtained as a function of the primary user activity and other CSMA/CA parameters. It is shown that the new MAC scheme yields larger throughput than the conventional single-band CSMA/CA when both schemes use the same bandwidth.

  • This paper reviews commercial wind mapping services provided by the oversea consulting companies, AL-PRO and anemos in Germany, AWS Truepower and 3TIER in USA. They provide quick-to-use but essential dataset for a preliminary assessment before commencing an actual feasibility study for wind farm development. Details of wind mapping method, mapresolution, data extraction height, price and so forth are compared and fresh service contents such as site analysis report are drawn from the comparison. Despite its public service, the objective value of the Renewable Energy Resource Map System of Korea Instistute of Energy Research is also confirmed and it is anticipated that the drawn new content idea will be ported to the system to enrich its applicability.

  • The expanding significance of energy storage (ES) technology is increasing the acceptability of power systems by augmenting renewable energy supply. To deploy such ES technologies, we must select the optimal technology that meets the requirements of the system and confirm the technical and economic feasibility of the business model based on it. Herein, we propose a method and tool for selecting the optimal ES technology and service suitable for meeting the requirements of the system, based on its performance characteristics. The method described in this study can be used to discover and apply various ES technologies and develop business models with excellent economic feasibility.

  • With the rapidly expanding social network service, the distribution of information shows that social networks have evolved into platforms of communication and new information sharing among users. Previous studies are focused on the motivational factors of information sharing through social networking service. However, in this study, we focus on the factors that affect intention to share information in terms of both user's psychological motivation and functional characteristics of social network service. This study shows that factors such as enjoyfulness, image, identity and communication positively affect the attitude and intention of information sharing.

  • Domestic on-line game market is growing quickly, but game company doesn't grasp trial of users, and it is bent on to the contents service supply that it was lumped together only. If cannot reflect mind of a user to game contents service, decrease of the existing customer and influx of a new customer is difficult as a loyalty duty of company is decreasingly market share drops, and this is large to company sales will beat it. I will present marketing strategy regarding game contents service of game companys in this study as detecting factors to affect to reuse intention of on-line game users.
