This paper analyzes instantaneous power compensation theory through comparing p-q theory and cross-vector theory which were proposed by Akagi and Nabae respectively in three-phase four-wire systems. The two compensation theories are identical when there is no zero-sequence voltage component in three-phase three-wire systems, However, when the zero-sequence voltage and/or current components exist in three-phase four-wire systems, the two compensation theories we different in definition on instantaneous real power and instantaneous imaginary power. Based on the analysis, this paper presents instantaneous power compensation method that can eliminate neutral current completely without using energy storage element when the zero-sequence current and voltage components exist in three-phase four-wire systems.

Torque ripple control of brushless DC motors has been the persisting issue of the servo drive systems in which the speed fluctuation, vibration and acoustic noise should be minimized. In this paper, a novel approach to achieve the ripple-free torque control with maximum efficiency based on the d-q reference frame is presented and analyzed. The proposed approach can provide the optimized phase current waveforms over wide speed range incorporating cogging torque compensation without an access to the neutral point of the motor windings. Moreover, the undesirable errors caused by the assumptions such as 3 phase balance or symmetry of the phase back EMF between electrical cycles, which are related with the manufacturing imperfections, can be also eliminated. As a result, the proposed approach provides a simple and clear way to obtain the optimal motor excitation currents. A hysteresis current control system is employed to produce high-frequency electromagnetic torque ripples for compensation. The validity and applicability of the proposed control scheme to real situations are verified through the simulations and experimental results.
This paper presents a novel control strategy for selective compensation of power quality (PQ) problems, depending upon the limited rating of voltage source inverters (VSIs), through a unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) in a three-phase four-wire distribution system. The UPQC is realized by the integration of series and shunt active power filters (APFs) sharing a common dc bus capacitor. The shunt APF is realized using a three-phase, four-leg voltage source inverter (VSI), while a three-leg VSI is employed for the series APF of the three-phase four-wire UPQC. The proposed control scheme for the shunt APF, decomposes the load current into harmonic components generated by consumer and distorted utility. In addition to this, the positive and negative sequence fundamental frequency active components, the reactive components and harmonic components of load currents are decomposed in synchronous reference frame (SRF). The control scheme of the shunt APF performs with priority based schemes, which respects the limited rating of the VSI. For voltage harmonic mitigation, a control scheme based on SRF theory is employed for the series APF of the UPQC. The performance of the proposed control scheme of the UPQC is validated through simulations using MATLAB software with its Simulink and Power System Block set toolboxes.

This paper presents the three-port DC-DC converter modeling and controller design procedure, which is part of the solid-state transformer (SST) to interface medium voltage AC grid to bipolar DC distribution network. Due to the high primary side DC link voltage, the proposed converter employs the three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) topology at the primary side and 2-two level half bridge circuits for each DC distribution network. For the proposed converter particular structure, this paper conducts modeling the three winding transformer and the power transfer between each port. A decoupling method is adopted to simplify the power transfer model. The voltage controller design procedure is presented. In addition, the output current sharing controller is employed for current balancing between the parallel-connected secondary output ports. The proposed circuit and controller performance are verified by experimental results using a 30 kW prototype SST system.
This paper proposes a control algorithm for permanent magnet synchronous generator with a back-to-back three-level neutral-point clamped voltage source converter in a medium-voltage offshore wind power system under unbalanced grid conditions. The proposed control algorithm particularly compensates for the unbalanced grid voltage at the point of common coupling in a collector bus of offshore wind power system. This control algorithm has been formulated based on the symmetrical components in positive and negative rotating synchronous reference frames under generalized unbalanced operating conditions. Instantaneous active and reactive power are described in terms of symmetrical components of measured grid input voltages and currents. Negative sequential component of ac input current is injected to the point of common coupling in the proposed control strategy. The amplitude of negative sequential component is calculated to minimize the negative sequential component of grid voltage under the limitation of current capability in a voltage source converter. The proposed control algorithm makes it possible to provide a balanced voltage at the point of common coupling resulting in the generated power of high quality from offshore wind power system under unbalanced network conditions.
This paper presents electric characteristics analysis and safe configuration for extension power supply between existent 6.6kV ungrounded distribution system and establishment and improvement 22.9kV direct grounding distribution system. For this, we model 6.6kV ungrounded and 22.9kV direct grounding distribution system of urban underground, ground region. and rural electrical, unelectrical region using PSCAD/EMTDC and analyze voltage drop, charging current, ground and short fault through simulation. To analyze electric characteristics of extension power supply, we simulate extension power supply of overhead line of 6.6kV ungrounded system and underground line of 22.9kV direct grounding system of rural electrical region and propose operation condition for safe extension power supply through result of analysis. Characteristics of voltage drop, charging current, ground and short fault appear almost similarly with electrical characteristic of direct power supply. However, because unbalance of phases may cause relay's malfunction of ungrounded system and ground fault current of direct grounding system may demage facilities of ungrounded system, we propose safe system configuration such as impedance grounding system of neutral point.
To test the efficiency of the BDD electrode for complete mineralization of organic wastewater, phenol and 2-chlorophenol (2-CP) were treated electrochemically with both an active Pt/Ti electrode and a nonactive boron doped diamond (BDD) electrode, respectively, in neutral aqueous medium. Aqueous solutions of both phenol and 2-chlorophenol were treated electrochemically using an in-house fabricated flow through electrochemical cell (FTEC). The experimental variables included current input, treatment time, and the flow rate of the solutions. Depending on the magnitude of the applied current and reaction time, the compounds were either completely degraded or partially oxidized to other intermediates. Removal efficiencies reached as high as 93.2% and 94.8% both at the Pt/Ti electrode and BDD electrode, respectively, at an applied current of 200 mA for a 3.0 hr reaction and a flow rate of 4 mL/min. The BDD electrode was much more efficient for the complete mineralization of phenol and 2-chlorophenol than the Pt/Ti electrode.

In this study, in order to obtain high qualify of electric power, single phase active filter which is composed of Zig-Zag transformer and three phase bridge rectifier and capacitor at the secondary of its transformer to be able to reduce the components of the zero phase current and the third harmonic current in neutral line and power line respectively. By connecting this filter to the Zig-Zag transformer and nonlinear load, their third harmonic components due to the nonlinear loads were reduced.
The four-leg Voltage Source Converter(VSC) can use the DC link voltage effectively by the 3-D SVPWM method. Hence the DC battery voltage can be reduced by $15\%$ in comparison to that of the conventional line-interactive UPS system. In this paper a novel line interactive Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS) using the two four-leg VSCs is proposed. One VSC is in parallel with the ac link reactor of the power source side, and the other is in series with the load. The parallel four-leg voltage source inverter controls the three-phase line voltage independently in order to control the line reactor current indirectly. It eliminates the neutral line current and the active ripple power of the source side using the pqr theory so that unity power factor and the sinusoidal source current can be achieved even though both the source and the load voltages have zero sequence components. The series four-leg voltage source inverter compensates the line voltage and allows it to be balanced and harmonic-free. Both of the parallel and series four-leg voltage source inverters always act as independently controllable voltage sources, so that the three-phase output voltage shows a seamless transition to the backup mode. The feasibility of the proposed UPS system has been investigated and verified through computer simulations results.

This paper deals with the power supply facility providing wireless power transmission for a type of electric vehicles called the on-line electric vehicle(OLEV) and proposes optimal protection coordination methods which analyze the faultsin the 60Hz and 20kHz bands using PSCAD/EMTDC, which is the typical commercial software for the distribution system. The simulation results show that the proposed methods can reduce the fault current by introducing an NGR (Neutral Ground Resistor) in the 60Hz band and prevent the malfunctioning of the protection device by installing a CT in the neutral wire in the 20kHz band when a ground fault occurs.
