A neural network has very simple construction (input, output and connection weight) and then it can be robusted against some disturbance. In this paper, we proposed a neuro-controller using a Multi-Layered neural network which is combined with PD controller. The proposed neuro-controller is learned by backpropagation learning rule with momentum and neuro-controller adjusts connection weight in neural network to make approximate dynamic model of DC Servo motor. Computer Simulation results show that the proposed neuro-controller's performance is better than that of origianl PD controller.

This paper proposes a method to improve the accuracy of a short-term electrical load forecasting (STLF) system based on neuro-fuzzy models. The proposed method compensates load forecasts based on the error obtained during the previous prediction. The basic idea behind this approach is that the error of the current prediction is highly correlated with that of the previous prediction. This simple compensation scheme using error information drastically improves the performance of the STLF based on neuro-fuzzy models. The viability of the proposed method is demonstrated through the simulation studies performed on the load data collected by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) in 1996 and 1997.
The negative output elementary Luo converter is a newly developed DC-DC converter. Due to the time-varying and switching nature of the above converter, its dynamic behavior becomes highly non-linear. Conventional controllers are incapable of providing good dynamic performance for such a converter and, hence, a neural network is utilized as a controller in this work. The performance of the chosen Luo converter using PI versus neuro controls is compared under load and line disturbances using MATLAB and TMS320F2407 DSP. The results validate the superiority of the developed neuro controller.

The MPPT algorithm using neuro-fuzzy controller is proposed to improve the performance of fuzzy controller in this paper. The width of membership function and fuzzy rule have an effect on the performance of fuzzy controller. The neuro-fuzzy controller has the response characteristic which is superior to the existing fuzzy controller, because of using the optimal width of the fuzzy membership function through the neural learning. The superior control characteristic of a proposed algorithm is confirmed through simulation and experiment results.
Purpose : Selective introduction of genes conferring chemosensitivity into proliferating tumor cells may be used to treat cancer. We first investigated the bystander effect of retrovirus-mediated gene transfer of herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase(HSV-TK) gene to murine neuroblstoma cell line(neuro-2a) in vitro and in vivo. Second, we examined the mechanism and its enhancement of the bystander effect in murine neuroblastoma. Methods : To investigate the bystander effect, we studied tumor growth and survival time after HSV-TK/ganciclovir(GCV) treatment in a syngenic A/J mouse neuroblastoma model by mixing various ratios of HSV-TK-expressing neuro-2a cells with wild type neuro-2a cells followed by GCV treatment. To investigate the mechanism of the bystander effect in murine neuroblastoma, immunohistochemistry using connexin 43, CD4 and CD8-specific monoclonal antibodies was analyzed. We studied whether IL-2-secreting neuro-2a cells(neuro-2a/IL-2) would potentiate the bystander effect. Results : A strong bystander effect was observed in vitro and in vivo. The bystander effect in murine neuroblastoma was dependent on the immune response rather than connexin-mediated gap junction. Neuro-2a/IL-2 treatment enhanced the bystander effect in the HSV-TK/GCV system in murine neuroblastoma model. Conclusion : We conclude that the bystander effect in murine neuroblastoma depends on immune response and is enhanced by neuro-2a/IL-2.

One of the significant subject in the automatic arc welding is to establish control system of the welding parameters for controlling bead geometry as a criterion to evaluate the quality of arc welding. This paper proposes an inference algorithm for bead geometry in CMA Welding using Neuro-Fuzzy algorithm. The characteristic welding parameters are measured by the circuit composed of hall sensor, voltage divider tachometer, etc. and then the bead geometry of each weld pool is calculated and detected by an image processing with CCD camera and a measuring with microscope. The relationships between the characteristic welding parameters and the bead geometry have been arranged empirically. From the result of experiments, membership functions and fuzzy rules are tuned and determined by the learning of neural network, and then the relationship between actual bead geometry and inferred bead geometry are concluded by fuzzy logic controller. In the applied inference system of bead geometry using Neuro-Fuzzy algorithm, the inference error percent is within -5%∼+4% in case of bead width, -10%∼+10% in bead height, -5%∼+6% in bead area, -10%∼+10% in penetration. Use of the Neuro-Fuzzy algorithm allows the CMA Welding system to evaluate the quality in bead geometry in real time as the welding parameters change.
We evaluated the effects of the stellate ganglion block(SGB) on the palmar hyperhidrosis. Ten patients of the palmar hyperhidrosis were taken right and left SGBs, 15 times on each side, total of 30 times, with 1% mepivacaine HCl 5 ml, with no discrimination on sex and age. Although there was a little decrease in the frequency of perspirations on 2 patients after the 15th block, no difference was noted after the overall 30th block at them. None of all 10 patients was satisfied symptomatically and no evidence of decreasing perspiration was found. Conclusively it seems that SGB with 1% mepivacaine HCl 5 ml is not an adequate therapy on the palmar hyperhidrosis even though it diminishes perspiration transiently.

Neurogenic differentiation 1 (NeuroD1) is an essential transcription factor for neuronal differentiation, maturation, and survival, and is associated with inflammation in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced glial cells; however, the concrete mechanisms are still ambiguous. Therefore, we investigated whether NeuroD1-targeting miRNAs affect inflammation and neuronal apoptosis, as well as the underlying mechanism. First, we confirmed that miR-30a-5p and miR-153-3p, which target NeuroD1, reduced NeuroD1 expression in microglia and astrocytes. In LPS-induced microglia, miR-30a-5p and miR-153-3p suppressed pro-inflammatory cytokines, reactive oxygen species, the phosphorylation of c-Jun N-terminal kinase, extracellular-signal-regulated kinase (ERK), and p38, and the expression of cyclooxygenase and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) via the NF-κB pathway. Moreover, miR-30a-5p and miR-153-3p inhibited the expression of NOD-like receptor pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasomes, NLRP3, cleaved caspase-1, and IL-1β, which are involved in the innate immune response. In LPS-induced astrocytes, miR-30a-5p and miR-153-3p reduced ERK phosphorylation and iNOS expression via the STAT-3 pathway. Notably, miR-30a-5p exerted greater anti-inflammatory effects than miR-153-3p. Together, these results indicate that miR-30a-5p and miR-153-3p inhibit MAPK/NF-κB pathway in microglia as well as ERK/STAT-3 pathway in astrocytes to reduce LPS-induced neuronal apoptosis. This study highlights the importance of NeuroD1 in microglia and astrocytes neuroinflammation and suggests that it can be regulated by miR-30a-5p and miR-153-3p.

Two hundred and eighty eight patients suffering from excessive sweating of palms, soles and axillae etc., visited our Neuro-Pain clinic from November 1991 to March 1996. The sex ratio was 1:1.2. the third decade of age was the major age group. the onset time of hyperhidrosis was prepubertal period (in 95.1% of them). the provocative factors fo excessive sweating were tension and stress from interpersonal relationship. they had the family history (30.9%) and the past history treated with herb medication (56.9%), medicine (30.6%), operation (1.4%), and no treatment (39.6%). We treated 113 patients by sympathetic ganglion block with pure alcohol. the average times of thoracic sympathetic ganglion block were 2.1 (left), 2.4 (right) and those of lumbar sympathetic ganglion block were 1.2 (left), 1.6 (right). Average admission period was 14.7 days. Recurrence rare was 7.1%. Most longstanding effective period was 45 months. We conclude from our results that sympathetic ganglion block is one of the most effective treatments for hyperhidrosis owing to its simple technique and low recurrence rate.

As the strip caster system that produces a regular steel plate can be considered as a complicate nonlinear multi-variable system, it is not easy to obtain an effective control system. One way to overcome the difficulties is to apply the intelligent neuro-fuzzy fusion approach in developing the control scheme. The neuro-fuzzy control scheme possesses several distinct advantages, including the fact that it doesn't need the exact mathematical modeling of controlled plant and can provided some robustness in the control scheme. In this paper, an intelligent neuro-fuzzy for the stripe caster system will be proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme will be demonstrated by computer simulation.
