  • In this paper, a speed sensorless control for an ultrasonic motor (USM) using a neural network (NN) is presented. In the proposed method, rotor speed is estimated by a three-layer NN which adapts nonlinearities associated with load torque and motor temperature into control. The intrinsic properties of a USM, such as high torque for low speeds, high static torque, compact size, etc., offer great advantages for industrial applications. However, the speed property of a USM has strong nonlinear properties associated with motor temperature and load torque, which make accurate speed control difficult. These properties are considered in designing a control method through the application of mathematical models. In these strategies, a detailed speed model of the USM is required which makes actual applications impractical. In the proposed method, a three-layer NN estimates the speed of the USM from the drive frequency, the root mean square value of input voltage and the surface temperature of the USM, where no mechanical speed sensor is needed. The NN speed based estimator enables inclusion of variations in driving conditions due to input signals of the NN involved during the driving state of the USM. The disuse of sensors offers many advantages on both the cost and maintenance front. Moreover, the model free sensorless control method offers practical controller construction within a small number of parameters. To validate the proposed speed sensorless control method for a USM, experiments have been executed under several conditions.

  • Purpose: To overcome the difficulty in building a large data set with a high-quality in medical imaging, a concept of 'blended-transfer learning' (BTL) using a combination of both source data and target data is proposed for the target task. Materials and Methods: Source and target tasks were defined as training of the source and target networks to reconstruct cardiac CINE images from undersampled data, respectively. In transfer learning (TL), the entire neural network (NN) or some parts of the NN after conducting a source task using an open data set was adopted in the target network as the initial network to improve the learning speed and the performance of the target task. Using BTL, an NN effectively learned the target data while preserving knowledge from the source data to the maximum extent possible. The ratio of the source data to the target data was reduced stepwise from 1 in the initial stage to 0 in the final stage. Results: NN that performed BTL showed an improved performance compared to those that performed TL or standalone learning (SL). Generalization of NN was also better achieved. The learning curve was evaluated using normalized mean square error (NMSE) of reconstructed images for both target data and source data. BTL reduced the learning time by 1.25 to 100 times and provided better image quality. Its NMSE was 3% to 8% lower than with SL. Conclusion: The NN that performed the proposed BTL showed the best performance in terms of learning speed and learning curve. It also showed the highest reconstructed-image quality with the lowest NMSE for the test data set. Thus, BTL is an effective way of learning for NNs in the medical-imaging domain where both quality and quantity of data are always limited.

  • In this paper, we develop anti-sway control in proposed techniques for an ATC system. The developed algorithm is to build the optimal path of container motion and to calculate an anti-collision path for collision avoidance in its movement to the finial coordinate. Moreover, in order to show the effectiveness in this research, we compared NNP PID controller to be tuning parameters of controller using NN with 2-DOF PID controller. The experimental results jar an ATC simulator show that the proposed control scheme guarantees performances, trolley position, sway angle, and settling time in NNP PID controller than other controller. As a result, the application of NNP PID controller is analyzed to have robustness about disturbance which is wind of fixed pattern in the yard.

  • Neural Network(NN) is known to be suitable for forecasting corporate bankruptcy because of discriminant capability. Bankruptcy prediciton on NN by now has mostly been studied based on financial indices at specific point of time. However, the financial profile of corporates fluctuates within a certain range with the elapse of time. Besides, we need a lot of data of different bankrupt types in order to apply NN for better bankruptcy prediciton. Therefore, we have decided to focus on textiles and clothing industries for bankruptcy prediction with limited data. One part of the collected data was used for training and calibration, and the other was used for verification. The model makes a learning with extended data from financial indices at specific point of time. The trained model has been tested and we could get a high hitting ratio relatively.

  • This paper presents Neural Network(NN) approach to short-term load forecasting. Input to the NN are past loads and the output is the predicted load for a given day. The NN is used to learn the relationship among past, current and future temperature and loads. Three different cases are presented. Case 1 divides into weekday and weekendday load pattern. Case 2 forcasts 24-hour ahead load. Case 3 searchs for the same load pattern as present load pattern in past load pattern. From result of forecasting, an average absolute percentage errors of case 1 shows 2.0%. That of case 2 shows 2.2, and That of case 3 shows 1.6%.

  • This paper is proposed the adaptive fuzzy neuro controller(AFNC) for high performance of induction motor drive. The design of this algorithm based on the AFNC that is implemented using fuzzy controller(FC) and neural network(NN). This controller uses fuzzy rule as training patterns of a NN. Also, this controller adjusts the weights between the neurons of NN to minimize the error between the command output and the actual output using the back-propagation method. The control performance of the AFNC is evaluated by analysis in various operating conditions. The results of analysis prove that the proposed control system has high performance and robustness to parameter variation, and steady-state accuracy and transient response.

  • Due to the expansion of high-speed Internet access, the need for secure and reliable networks has become more critical. The sophistication of network attacks, as well as their severity, has also increased recently. As such, more and more organizations are becoming vulnerable to attack. The aim of this research is to classify network attacks using neural networks (NN), which leads to a higher detection rate and a lower false alarm rate in a shorter time. This paper focuses on two classification types: a single class (normal, or attack), and a multi class (normal, DoS, PRB, R2L, U2R), where the category of attack is also detected by the NN. Extensive analysis is conducted in order to assess the translation of symbolic data, partitioning of the training data and the complexity of the architecture. This paper investigates two engines; the first engine is the back-propagation neural network intrusion detection system (BPNNIDS) and the second engine is the radial basis function neural network intrusion detection system (BPNNIDS). The two engines proposed in this paper are tested against traditional and other machine learning algorithms using a common dataset: the DARPA 98 KDD99 benchmark dataset from International Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining Tools. BPNNIDS shows a superior response compared to the other techniques reported in literature especially in terms of response time, detection rate and false positive rate.
