  • We propose a mechanism for monitoring load in quality of service (QoS)-enabled wireless networks and show how it can be used for network management as well as for dynamic pricing. Mobile network traffic, especially video, has grown exponentially over the last few years and it is anticipated that this trend will continue into the future. Driving factors include the availability of new affordable, smart devices, such as smart-phones and tablets, together with the expectation of high quality user experience for video as one would obtain at home. Although new technologies such as long term evolution (LTE) are expected to help satisfy this demand, the fact is that several other mechanisms will be needed to manage overload and congestion in the network. Therefore, the efficient management of the expected huge data traffic demands is critical if operators are to maintain acceptable service quality while making a profit. In the current work, we address this issue by first investigating how the network load can be accurately monitored and then we show how this load metric can then be used to provide creative pricing plans. In addition, we describe its applications to features like traffic offloading and user satisfaction tracking.

  • We propose a traffic information service system for which traffic data are transmitted over vehicle ad-hoc network from neighbor vehicles, and eventually provided to the traffic information center through a few gateway vehicles which are capable of inter-working with the infrastructure network like 3G. The center broadcasts the traffic information through the FM radio. The proposed scheme allows collecting and analyzing traffic status of large areas without incorporating separated monitoring systems, e.g., probe cars and enables to provide accurate traffic information to drivers in timely manner. We also evaluate its performance by ns-3 simulation.

  • Communication between ECUs (Electronic Control Units) in agricultural machineries tends to use IS011783 widely, that is PGN (Parameter Group Number) based communication protocol lays on CAN protocol by altering its identifier part. Messages in line are transferred and received between ECUs according to ISO11783 standard. This paper discusses about design of wireless monitoring system. We used an ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller embedded development board and marvel8686 wireless module. The wireless ISOBUS monitoring system, attached to communication line, reads messages, interpret them, and display them on the screen in easily comprehendible form. It can be used to generate messages and monitor the traffic on physical bus systems. The monitoring system connected to ECUs, monitor and simulate real traffic of communication and functionality of the ECUs. In order to support our work, we have implemented the monitoring tool. The development consists of two parts: GUI of the application and firmware level programming. Hence the monitoring system is attached to the communication line and equipped by Wi-Fi module; farmer/dispatcher in a farm monitors all messages in communication line on personal computer and smart device.

  • Current trends in information system have led many companies to adopt security solutions. However, even with a large budget, they cannot function properly without proper security monitoring that manages them. Security monitoring necessitates a quick response in the event of a problem, and it is needed to design appropriate visualization dashboards for monitoring purposes so that necessary information can be delivered quickly. This paper shows how to visualize a security log using the open source program Elastic Stack and demonstrates that the proposed method is suitable for network security monitoring by implementing it as a appropriate dashboard for monitoring purposes. We confirmed that the dashboard was effectively exploited for the analysis of abnormal traffic growth and attack paths.

  • Diff-Serv(DS) is a mechanism by which network service providers can offer differing levels of network service to different traffic, in so providing quality of service(QoS) to their customers. Because this mechanism has been deployed just for fixed hosts with the Token Bucket mechanism according to AggF(Aggregate Flow) instead of each flow, DS can not suggest effective usability of traffic resources. In this paper, we use WFQ mechanism for traffic conditioner and scheduling method monitoring the AggF and the results will be used to control the next flows coming in TC. So it will control traffic rate dynamically and suggest efficient usability of bandwidth.

  • Industrial communication networks have attracted much attention in the area of decentralized control systems for factory automation and computer integrated manufacturing. In this paper, we investigate the rate-based traffic control of industrial communication networks employing LonWorks to improve the performance measures of throughput, fairness, and error rates. To this end, we utilize the Feedback channel information through the additional network monitoring node and make the overall system closed-loop. We demonstrate the improved performance of the controlled network system by the experimentation upon an implemented lab-scale network system.

  • Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a promising technology for monitoring physical phenomena at fine-grained spatial and temporal resolution. However, the typical approach of sending each sensed measurement out of the network for detailed spatial analysis of transient physical phenomena may not be an efficient or scalable solution. This paper focuses on in-network physical phenomena detection schemes, particularly the distributed computation of the boundary of physical phenomena (i.e. event), to support energy efficient spatial analysis in wireless sensor networks. In-network processing approach reduces the amount of network traffic and thus achieves network scalability and lifetime longevity. This study investigates the recent advances in distributed event detection based on in-network processing and includes a concise comparison of various existing schemes. These boundary detection schemes identify not only those sensor nodes that lie on the boundary of the physical phenomena but also the interior nodes. This constitutes an event geometry which is a basic building block of many spatial queries. In this paper, we introduce the challenges and opportunities for research in the field of in-network distributed event geometry boundary detection as well as illustrate the current status of research in this field. We also present new areas where the event geometry boundary detection can be of significant importance.

  • Currently there are many standards of network management. They are: SNMP(Simple Network Management Protocol - for Internet management), CMIP(Common Management Information Protocol - standardized by ITU-T and ISO), RMON(Remote network MONitoring - for distributed management of the LAN segment), and so on. Especially RMON has created the many concerns in order to manage subnetworks of a large network, but it has negative aspects. For instance, routers or hubs with RMON capability are expensive to a network manager because of adding heavy management cost. Moreover it imposes a heavier burden on network manager, because it must use a network management tool which will be additionally needed with RMON device. This paper proposes a model of PC based RMON Agent system. The RMON Agent system monitors the traffic on LAN segment through the use of a Virtual Device Driver(VxD), based on PC. In term of cost this model will replace the expensive RMON device, and eventually enable a network manager to manage LAN segment more efficiently, due to reduced cost.

  • Today's Internet does not have efficient traffic engineering mechanism to support QoS for the explosive increasing internet traffic such as various multimedia traffic. This functional shortage degrades prominently the quality of service, and makes it difficult to provide multi-media service and real-time service. Various technologies are under developed to solve these problems. IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) developed the MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) technology that provides a good capabilities of traffic engineering and is independent layer 2 protocol, so MPLS is expected to be used in the Internet backbone network$\^$[1][2]/. The faults occurring in high-speed network such as MPLS, may cause massive data loss and degrade quality of service. So fast network restoration function is essential requirement. Because MPLS is independent to layer 2 protocol, the fault detection and reporting mechanism for restoration should also be independent to layer 2 protocol. In this paper, we present the experimental results of the MPLS OAM function for the performance monitoring and fault detection 'll'&'ll' notification, localization in MPLS network, based on the OPNET network simulator
