  • In recent years, wireless sensor networks have become an important part of data communications. Sensors provide information about the required measurements or control states over wireless networks. The energy efficient routing protocol of wireless sensor networks is the key issue for network lifetimes. The routing protocol must ensure that connectivity in a network is remained for a long period of time and the energy status of the sensor in the entire network must be in the same level in order not to leave the network with a wide difference in the energy consumptions of the sensors. In this paper we propose a new routing protocol based on AODV protocol that considers the energy efficiency when the protocol determines the routing paths, which is called AODV-EE. The proposed method prevents an imbalance of power consumption in sensors of wireless networks. From the simulation results it is shown that the proposed algorithm can be effectively used in collecting and monitoring data without concerning about the disconnection of the networks.

  • Sensor networks and car networks that have different structure from that of conventional TCP/IP network require extreme network environment due to frequent change of connectivity. Because such extreme network environment has characteristics like unreliable link connectivity, long delay time, asymmetrical data transfer rate, and high error rate, etc., it is difficult to perform normally with the conventional TCP/P-based routing. DTNs (delay and disruption tolerant network) was designed to support data transfer in extreme network environment with long delay time and no guarantee for continuous connectivity between terminals. This study suggests an algorithm that limits the maximum number of copying transferred message to L by improving the spray and wait routing protocol, which is one of the conventional DTNs routing protocols, and using the azimuth and density data of the mobile nods. The suggested algorithm was examined by using ONE, a DTNs simulator. As a result, it could reduce the delay time and overhead of unnecessary packets compared to the conventional spray and wait routing protocol.

  • In this paper we propose an improved energy aware greedy perimeter stateless routing protocol (EAGPSR) for wireless ad hoc network. The existing greedy perimeter stateless routine (GPSR) has some problems with overloaded node and void situation. The improved EAGPSR protocol is proposed to remedy these problems. It also gives the solution for the fundamental problem in geographical routine called void communication. It considers two parameters (Residual Energy of battery and distance to the destination) for the next hop selection. In order to use efficiently limited-energy of node in wireless ad hoc network, network lifetime is focused. To evaluate the performance of our protocol we simulated EAGPSR in ns-2. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol achieves longer network lifetime compared with greedy perimeter stateless routing (GPSR) and the existing Energy aware greedy perimeter stateless routing protocol (EAGPSR).

  • A wireless sensor network communication technique has been broadly studied with continuous advances in ubiquitous computing environment. Especially, because the resource of the sensor node is limited, it is important to reduce the communication energy by using an energy-efficient routing protocol. The existing cluster-based routing protocols have a problem that they cannot select a cluster head efficiently by randomly choosing a head. In addition, because the existing cluster-based routing protocols do not support the large scale of network, they cannot be used for various applications. To solve the above problems, we, in this paper, propose a new cluster-based routing protocol using representative paths. The proposed protocol constructs an efficient cluster with distributed cluster heads by creating representative paths based on hop count. In addition, a new routing protocol supports multi-hop routing for data communication between a cluster member node and a cluster head as well as between cluster heads. Finally, we show that our protocol outperforms LEACH and Multihop-LEACH in terms of reliability and scalability.

  • Route establishment in Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is the key mechanism to a successful connection between a pair of source and destination nodes. An efficient routing protocol constructs routing path with minimal time, less routing overhead and capable of utilizing all possible link connectivity. In general, most on-demand MANET routing protocols operates over symmetrical and bidirectional routing path, which is infeasible due to the inherent heterogeneous properties of wireless devices. Simulation results show that the presence of unidirectional links on a network severely affect the performance of a routing protocol. In this paper, a robust protocol independent scheme is proposed, which enable immediate rediscovery of alternative route for a path blocked by a unidirectional link. The proposed scheme is efficient; route rediscovery is locally computed, which results in significant minimization of multiple route packets flooding. Nodes may exploit route information of immediate neighbors using the local reply broadcast technique, which then redirect the control packets around the unidirectional links, therefore maintaining the end-to-end bidirectional connection. The proposed scheme along with Ad Hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) and AODV-Blacklist routing protocol is investigated over three types of mobility models. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme is extremely reliable under poor network conditions and the route connectivity can be improved by as much as 75%.

  • The existing routing protocols in USN environment, PEGASIS is more efficient than LEACH, which is a hierarchical routing protocol, for network configuration based on power consumption. Despite its merit that it can reduce energy consumption per node, however, the PEGASIS protocol also has a weakness that it is less responsive to frequent changes that occur in the configuration of sensor network due to BS nodes that keep changing, which is a typical characteristic of the sensor network. To address this problem, this paper proposes to select sub-cluster heads and have them serve as intermediate nodes. This paper presents and analyses that this method can resolve the aforementioned problem of the PEGASIS algorithm.

  • Since the ubiquitous sensor network is not connected to external power source and operated by its own battery, it is required to maximize the network life using the efficient energy utilization. In a conventional hop count based routing protocol, most sensor nodes are designed with a constant transmission power. In this paper, we propose a routing protocol that prolongs the network lifetime by balancing the power consumption among the nodes by controlling the transmit power according to the residual power of the nodes, and compared the performance of the proposed routing protocol through computer simulations.

  • In VANET, frequent movement of nodes causes dynamic changes of the network topology. Therefore the routing protocol, which is stable to effectively respond the changes of the network topology, is required. Moreover, the existing cluster-based routing protocol, that is the hybrid approach, has routing delay due to the frequent re-electing of the cluster header. In addition, the routing table of CBRP has only one hop distant neighbor nodes. PCBRP (Paired CBRP), proposed in this paper, ties two clusters in one pair of clusters to make longer radius. Then the pair of the cluster headers manages and operates corresponding member nodes. In the current CBRP, when the cluster header leaves the cluster the delay, due to the re-electing a header, should be occurred. However, in PCBRP, another cluster header of the paired cluster takes the role instead of the left cluster header. This means that this method reduces the routing delay. Concurrently, PCBRP reduces the delay when routing nodes in the paired cluster internally. Therefore PCBRP shows improved total delay of the network and improved performance due to the reduced routing overhead.

  • Ad-hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile hosts forming a temporary network without the aid of any centralized administration or reliable support services such as wired network and base stations. Recently, Ad-hoc networks are evolving to support multimedia contents according to expansion of ad hoc multi-hop communication system. Wireless ad-hoc network is different from the conventional wired network by frequent changes in network topology, number of routers and resources, there are a number of problems in applying conventional routing protocol to ad-hoc network. The AODV routing protocol is proposed for mobile node in ad-hoc networks. AODV protocol that provides to guarantee QoS for data transmission in ad hoc networks that link break frequently occurs. In this paper, AODV routing protocol based NDIS(Network Driver Interface Specification) is implemented. We design high performance image transmission that can operate with software(AODV) for ad-hoc networks without degradation. and verify operation of AODV routing protocol on the test bed.

  • Dynamic Source Route(DSR) protocol is a simple and efficient routing protocol designed specially for use of the multi-hop Ad Hoc Network. DSR allows the network to be completely self-organized and self-configured without the need for any existing infrastructure or administration. DSR protocol consists of the two mechanisms of Router discovery and Router Maintenance, works entirely On-demand in all aspects. In this paper, we will present the performance of DSR protocol on the multi-hop wireless Ad Hoc Networks, illustrate it with simulation, and then analysis the algorism of DSR.
