  • Due to the differences between a mobile ad-hoc network and a sensor network, the pre-existing autoconfiguration for a mobile ad-hoc network cannot be simply applied to a sensor network. But. a mechanism is still necessary to assign locally unique addresses to sensor nodes efficiently. This paper proposes a hybrid IDs assignment scheme of local area sensor networks. The IDs assignment scheme of hybrid method combines a proactive IDs assignment with a reactive IDs assignment scheme. The proposed scheme considers efficient communication using reactive IDs assignment, and security for potential attacks using zone-based self-organized clustering with Byzantine Agreement in sensor networks. Thus, this paper has solved the shortage of security due to minimizing network traffic and the problem of repairing the network from the effects of an aberrant node in sensor networks.

  • For the prevention of the network intrusion from damaging the system, both IDS (Intrusion Detection System) and Firewall are frequently applied. The collaboration of IDS and Firewall efficiently protects the network because of making up for the weak points in the each demerit. A model has been constructed based on the DEVS (Discrete Event system Specification) formalism for the simulation of the system that consists of IDS and Firewall. With this model we can simulation whether the intrusion detection, which is a core function of IDS, is effectively done under various different conditions. As intrusions become more sophisticated, it is beyond the scope of any one IDS to deal with them. Thus we placed multiple IDS agents in the network where the information helpful for detecting the intrusions is shared among these agents to cope effectively with attackers. If an agent detects intrusions, it transfers attacker's information to a Firewall. Using this mechanism attacker's packets detected by IDS can be prevented from damaging the network.

  • Machine-learning techniques have been actively employed to information security in recent years. Traditional rule-based security solutions are vulnerable to advanced attacks due to unpredictable behaviors and unknown vulnerabilities. By employing ML techniques, we are able to develop intrusion detection systems (IDS) based on anomaly detection instead of misuse detection. Moreover, threshold issues in anomaly detection can also be resolved through machine-learning. There are very few datasets for network intrusion detection compared to datasets for malicious code. KDD CUP 99 (KDD) is the most widely used dataset for the evaluation of IDS. Numerous studies on ML-based IDS have been using KDD or the upgraded versions of KDD. In this work, we develop an IDS model using CSE-CIC-IDS 2018, a dataset containing the most up-to-date common network attacks. We employ deep-learning techniques and develop a convolutional neural network (CNN) model for CSE-CIC-IDS 2018. We then evaluate its performance comparing with a recurrent neural network (RNN) model. Our experimental results show that the performance of our CNN model is higher than that of the RNN model when applied to CSE-CIC-IDS 2018 dataset. Furthermore, we suggest a way of improving the performance of our model.

  • In this paper, separated and optimized pattern database model is proposed. In order to improve efficiency of Network-based IDS, pattern database is classified by proper basis. Classification basis is decided by the specific Intrusions validity on specific target. Using this model, IDS searches only valid patterns in pattern database on each captured packets. In result, IDS can reduce system resources for searching pattern database. So, IDS can analyze more packets on the network. In this paper, proper classification basis is proposed and pattern database classified by that basis is formed. And its performance is verified by experimental results.

  • This paper reviews and assesses the analogy between the human immune system and network intrusion detection systems. The promising results from a growing number of proposed computer immune models for intrusion detection motivate this work. The paper begins by briefly introducing existing intrusion detection systems (IDS's). A set of general requirements for network-based IDS's and the design goals to satisfy these requirements are identified by a careful examination of the literature. An overview of the human immune system is presented and its salient features that can contribute to the design of competent network-based IDS's are analysed. The analysis shows that the coordinated actions of several sophisticated mechanisms of the human immune system satisfy all the identified design goals. Consequently, the paper concludes that the design of a novel network-based IDS based on the human immune system is promising for future network-based IDS's

  • One type of network security breach is the availability breach, which deprives legitimate users of their right to access services. The Denial of Service (DoS) attack is one way to have this breach, whereas using the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is the trending way to detect a DoS attack. However, building IDS has two challenges: reducing the false alert and picking up the right dataset to train the IDS model. The survey concluded, in the end, that using a real dataset such as MAWILab or some tools like ID2T that give the researcher the ability to create a custom dataset may enhance the IDS model to handle the network threats, including DoS attacks. In addition to minimizing the rate of the false alert.

  • This paper proposes an efficient algorithm to detect CAN (Controller Area Network) bus attack based on a lightweight CNN (Convolutional Neural Network), and an IDS(Intrusion Detection System) was designed, implemented, and verified with FPGA. Compared to conventional CNN-based IDS, the proposed IDS detects CAN bus attack on a frame-by-frame basis, enabling accurate and rapid response. Furthermore, the proposed IDS can significantly reduce hardware since it exploits only one convolutional layer, compared to conventional CNN-based IDS. Simulation and implementation results show that the proposed IDS effectively detects various attacks on the CAN bus.

  • Network threats such as Internet worms and computer viruses have been significantly increasing. In particular, APTs(Advanced Persistent Threats) and ransomwares become clever and complex. IDSes(Intrusion Detection Systems) have performed a key role as information security solutions during last few decades. To use an IDS effectively, IDS rules must be written properly. An IDS rule includes a key signature and is incorporated into an IDS. If so, the network threat containing the signature can be detected by the IDS while it is passing through the IDS. However, it is challenging to find a key signature for a specific network threat. We first need to analyze a network threat rigorously, and write a proper IDS rule based on the analysis result. If we use a signature that is common to benign and/or normal network traffic, we will observe a lot of false alarms. In this paper, we propose a scheme that analyzes a network threat and extracts key signatures corresponding to the threat. Specifically, our proposed scheme quantifies the degree of correspondence between a network threat and a signature using the LDA(Latent Dirichlet Allocation) algorithm. Obviously, a signature that has significant correspondence to the network threat can be utilized as an IDS rule for detection of the threat.

  • We need to check into when a security system is newly developed, we against cyber attack which is expected in real network. However it is impossible to check it under the environment of a large-scale distributive network. So it is need to simulate it under the virtual network environment. SSFNet is a event-driven simulator which can be represent a large-scale network. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the module to simulate security functions. In this paper, we added the IDS module to SSFNet. We implement the IDS module by modeling a key functions of Snort. In addition, we developed some useful functions using Java language which can manipulate easily a packet for network simulation. Finally, we performed the simulation to verify the function if our developed IDS and Packets Manipulation. The simulation shows that our expanded SSFNet can be used to further large-scale security system simulator.
