Adaptive motion estimation based on spatio-temporal correlations (시공간 상관성을 이용한 적응적 움직임 추정)

  • Generally, moving images contain the various components in motions, which reange from a static object and background to a fast moving object. To extract the accurate motion parameters, we must consider the various motions. That requires a wide search egion in motion estimation. The wide search, however, causes a high computational complexity. If we have a few knowledge about the motion direction and magnitude before motion estimation, we can determine the search location and search window size using the already-known information about the motion. In this paper, we present a local adaptive motion estimation approach that predicts a block motion based on spatio-temporal neighborhood blocks and adaptively defines the search location and search window size. This paper presents a technique for reducing computational complexity, while having high accuracy in motion estimation. The proposed algorithm is introduced the forward and backward projection techniques. The search windeo size for a block is adaptively determined by previous motion vectors and prediction errors. Simulations show significant improvements in the qualities of the motion compensated images and in the reduction of the computational complexity.

A Fast CU Size Decision Optimal Algorithm Based on Neighborhood Prediction for HEVC

  • High efficiency video coding (HEVC) employs quadtree coding tree unit (CTU) structure to improve its coding efficiency, but at the same time, it also requires a very high computational complexity due to its exhaustive search processes for an optimal coding unit (CU) partition. With the aim of solving the problem, a fast CU size decision optimal algorithm based on neighborhood prediction is presented for HEVC in this paper. The contribution of this paper lies in the fact that we successfully use the partition information of neighborhood CUs in different depth to quickly determine the optimal partition mode for the current CU by neighborhood prediction technology, which can save much computational complexity for HEVC with negligible RD-rate (rate-distortion rate) performance loss. Specifically, in our scheme, we use the partition information of left, up, and left-up CUs to quickly predict the optimal partition mode for the current CU by neighborhood prediction technology, as a result, our proposed algorithm can effectively solve the problem above by reducing many unnecessary prediction and partition operations for HEVC. The simulation results show that our proposed fast CU size decision algorithm based on neighborhood prediction in this paper can reduce about 19.0% coding time, and only increase 0.102% BD-rate (Bjontegaard delta rate) compared with the standard reference software of HM16.1, thus improving the coding performance of HEVC.

A Neighborhood Beam Search Algorithm for Routing Yard-Side Equipment in Port Container Terminals (컨테이너 터미널에서 야드장비의 경로결정을 위한 이웃에 대한 빔 탐색 방식)

  • It is discussed how to route yard-side equipment during the loading operation in port container terminals. The number of containers to be picked up at each yard-bay, as well as the route of a yard-side equipment (for example, transfer crane or straddle carrier) in a yard, are determined. The objective of the problem is to minimize the total container handling time in the yard. An encoding method to represent nodes in the search space is introduced utilizing inherent properties of the optimal solution by which the search space is greatly reduced. A beam search algorithm is suggested. A numerical experiment is carried out to compared the performance of the beam search algorithm with those of other approaches.

  • Resource Constrained Dynamic Multi-Projects Scheduling(RCDMPS) is intended to minimize the total processing time(makespan) of two or more projects sequentially arriving at the shop under restricted resources. The aim of this paper is to develop the new Tabu Search heuristic for RCDMPS to minimize makespan. We propose the insertion method to generate the neighborhood solutions in applying the Tabu Search for the RCDMPS and the diversification strategy to search the solution space diversely. The proposed diversification strategy apply the dynamic tabu list that the tabu list size is generated and renewed at each iteration by the complexity of the project, and change the proposed tabu attribute. In this paper, We use the dynamic tabu list for the diversification strategy and intensification strategy in the tabu search, and compare with other dispatching heuristic method to verify that the new heuristic method minimize the makespan of the problem.

Cooperative Case-based Reasoning Using Approximate Query Answering (근사질의 응답기능을 이용한 협동적 사례기반추론)

  • Case-Based Reasoning(CBR) offers a new approach for developing knowledge based systems. CBR has several research issues which can be divided into two categories : (1) static issues and (2) dynamic issues. The static issues are related to case representation scheme and case data model, that is, focus on casebase which is a repository of cases. The dynamic issues, on the other hand, are related to case retrieval procedure and problem solving process, i.e. case adaptation phase. This research is forcused on retrieval procedure Traditional query processing accepts precisely specified queries and only provides exact answers, thus requiring users to fully understand the problem domain and the casebase schema, but returning limited or even null information if the exact answer is not available. To remedy such a restriction, extending the classical notion of query answering to approximate query answering(AQA) has been explored. AQA can be achieved by neighborhood query answering or associative query answering. In this paper, neighborhood query answering technique is used for AQA. To reinforce the CBR process, a new retrieval procedure(cooperative CBR) using neighborhood query answering is proposed. An neighborhood query answering relaxes a query scope to enlarge the search range, or relaxes an answer scope to include additional information. Computer Aided Process Planning(CAPP) is selected as cooperative CBR application domain for test. CAPP is an essential key for achieving CIM. It is the bridge between CAD and CAM and translates the design information into manufacturing instructions. As a result of the test, it is approved that the problem solving ability of cooperative CBR is improved by relaxation technique.

Real-time Automatic Target Tracking Based on a Fast Matching Method (고속 정합법에 의한 실시간 자동목표 추정)

  • In this paper, a fast matching method using hierarchical neighborhood search and subtemplate to reduce very heavy computational load of the conventional matching method, is presented. Some parameters of the proposed method are chosen so that an automatic target tracker to which it is applied can track one moving object well in comparatively simple background. Experimental results show that its performance is not so degraded in spite of high computational reduction over that of the matching method using 3-step search.

  • Although asynchronous designs have become a promising way to develop complex modern digital systems, there is a few complete design framework for VLSI designers who wish to use automatic CAD tools. Especially, high-level synthesis is not widely concerned until now. In this paper we Proposed a method for high-level synthesis of asynchronous systems as a part of an asynchronous design framework. Our method performs scheduling, allocation, and binding, which are three subtasks of high-level synthesis, in simultaneous using a transformational approach. To deal with complexity of high-level synthesis we use neighborhood search algorithm such as Tabu search.

A modified tabu search for redundancy allocation problem of complex systems of ships

  • The traditional RAP (Redundancy Allocation Problem) of complex systems has considered only the redundancy of subsystem with homogeneous components. In this paper we extend it as a RAP of complex systems with heterogeneous components which is more flexible than the case of homogeneous components. We model this problem as a nonlinear integer programming problem, find its optimal solution by tabu search, and suggest an example of the efficient reliability design with heterogeneous components. In order to improve the quality of the solution of the tabu search, we suggest a modified tabu search to employ an adaptive procedure (1-opt or 2-opt exchange) to generate the efficient neighborhood solutions. Computational results show that our modified procedure obtains better solutions as the size of problem increases from 30 to 50, even though it requires rather more computing time. With some adjustment of the parameters of the proposed method, it can be applied to the optimal reliability designs of complex systems of ships.

  • In Guided Scrambling (GS) encoding for the holographic storage, after scrambling augmented source word into codeword, the best codeword satisfying modulation constraint is determined. Modulation constraints considered in this paper are strength which is the minimum number of transition between '0' and '1' in each row and column of codeword array and the symbol balancedness of codeword array. In this paper, we show that GS encoding procedure can be formulated as an integer programming model and develop a fast neighborhood search heuristic for fast computation of control bits. In the simulation, we compared the performance of heuristic algorithm with the integer programming model for various array and control bit size combinations.

  • In this paper we consider the problem of finding the triplet (S,${\pi}$,f), where $S{\subseteq}V$, ${\pi}$ is a sequence of nodes in S and $f:V{\backslash}S{\rightarrow}S$ for a given complete graph G=(V,E). In particular, there exist two costs, $c^V_{uv}$ and $c^D_{uv}$ for $(u,v){\in}E$, and the cost of triplet (S,${\pi}$,f) is defined as $\sum_{i=1}^{{\mid}S{\mid}}c^V_{{\pi}(i){\pi}(i+1)}+2$ ${\sum_{u{\in}V{\backslash}S}c^D_{uf(u)}$. This problem is motivated by the integrated routing of the vehicle and drone for urban delivery services. Since a well-known NP-complete TSP (Traveling Salesman Problem) is a special case of our problem, we cannot expect to have any polynomial-time algorithm unless P=NP. Furthermore, for practical purposes, we may not rely on time-exhaustive enumeration method such as branch-and-bound and branch-and-cut. This paper suggests the simple heuristic which is motivated by the MST (minimum spanning tree)-based approximation algorithm and neighborhood search heuristic for TSP.
