Diabetes is a major cause of morbidity and mortality, and associated with a high risk of atherosclerosis, and liver, kidney, nerve and tissue damage. Defective insulin secretion in pancreas and/or insulin resistance in peripheral tissues is a central component of diabetes. It is well established that, regardless of the degree of muscle insulin resistance, glucose levels in diabetic and non-diabetic individuals are determined by the rate of hepatic glucose production. Moreover recently studies using liver-specific insulin receptor knockout mice show the paramount role of the liver in insulin resistance and diabetes. Insulin exerts a multifaceted and highly integrated series of actions via its intracellular signaling systems. The first major section of this review defines the major insulin-mediated signaling pathways including phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and mitogen activated protein kinases. The second major section of the review presents a summary and evaluation of methods for determination of the role and function of signaling pathways, including methods for determination of kinase phosphorylation, the use of pharmacological inhibitors of kinase and dominant-negative kinase constructs, and the application of new RNA interference methods.

Purpose. The purpose of this review is to explore cultural influences on the experiences of Korean, Korean American, and Caucasian American family caregivers caring for frail older adults in terms of the selection of a primary caregiver, caregiving motivation, support/help-seeking, and negative emotional responses (depression and burden). Methods. Seven electronic databases were searched to retrieve studies from 1966 to 2005. Thirty-two studies were identified. Results. This review supported cultural influences on the selection of primary caregiver, caregiving motivation, and support/help-seeking among the three caregiver groups. In Korean caregivers, the major primary caregivers were daughters-in-law while among Korean American and Caucasian American caregivers, the major primary caregivers were daughters or spouses. As a major caregiving motivation, Caucasian American care￢givers reported filial affection while Korean caregivers and Korean American caregivers reported filial obligation. Korean caregivers reported higher extended family support, while Caucasian American caregivers reported higher utilization of formal support. Korean caregivers showed the highest levels of depression followed by Korean American caregivers and Caucasian American caregivers. Conclusion. In order to develop culturally appropriate interventions and policies, more research is needed to further explain these differences among the three groups, especially regarding support/help-seeking and negative emotional responses.

Purpose This study analyzed the topic of game review contents and how the characteristics of game reviews affect the reviews helpfulness. In addition, this study explore the content of game reviews according to the game's sales strategy such as early access strategy and releasing without early access. Design/methodology/approach We collected a list of 3,572 action genre games released in 2020. 58,336 online reviews were collected by random sampling 50 reviews in each games, and topic modeling was performed on those reviews. We dynamized the results of topic modeling and analyzed the effect on review helpfulness with multiple regression analysis. Findings The results of analysis indicate that the longer the review is or the shorter the time it is written, the more helpful the review is. In addition the topic with positive and negative review has a significant effect on the review helpfulness. As a result of exploratory analysis, games from early access had relatively fewer reviews of story-related topics than games that were released without early access. These findings can present direct guidelines for collecting specific opinions from customers in the game industry when releasing games.

A lot of researches find negative volatility risk premium in options market. We can make a trading profit by exploiting the negative volatility premium. This study proposes negative volatility risk premium hypotheses in the KOSPI 200 stock price index options market and empirically test the proposed hypotheses with intra-day short straddle strategy. This strategy sells both at-the-money call option and at-the-money put option at market open and exits the position at market close. Using MySQL 5.1, we create our database with 1 minute option price data of the KOSPI 200 index options from 2004 to 2009. Empirical results show that negative volatility risk premium exists in the KOSPI 200 stock price index options market. Furthermore, intra-day short straddle strategy consistently produces annual profits except one year.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to propose a methodology to derive positive keywords and negative keywords through deep learning to classify reviews into positive reviews and negative ones, and then refine the results of topic modeling using these keywords. Design/methodology/approach In this study, we extracted topic keywords by performing LDA-based topic modeling. At the same time, we performed attention-based deep learning to identify positive and negative keywords. Finally, we refined the topic keywords using these keywords as filters. Findings We collected and analyzed about 6,000 English reviews of Gyeongbokgung, a representative tourist attraction in Korea, from Tripadvisor, a representative travel site. Experimental results show that the proposed methodology properly identifies positive and negative keywords describing major topics.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is defined as a type of breast carcinoma that is negative for expression of oestrogene and progesterone hormone receptors (ER, PR) and HER2. This form of breast cancer is marked by its aggressiveness, low survival rate and lack of specific therapies. Recently, important molecular characteristics of TNBC have been highlighted and led to the identification of some biomarkers that could be used in diagnosis, as therapeutic targets or to assess the prognosis. In this review, we summarize recent progress in TNBC research focusing on the genetic and epigenetic alterations of TNBC and the potential use of these biomarkers in the targeted therapy for better management of TNBC.

Purpose The impact of online reviews is widely acknowledged, with extensive research focused on text-based reviews. However, there's a lack of research regarding reviews in video format. To address this gap, this study aims to explore the connection between company-sponsored product review videos and the extent of directive speech within them. This article analyzed viewer sentiments expressed in video comments based on the level of directive speech used by the presenter. Design/methodology/approach This study involved analyzing speech acts in review videos based on sponsorship and examining consumer reactions through sentiment analysis of comments. We used Speech Act theory to perform the analysis. Findings YouTubers who receive company sponsorship for review videos tend to employ more directive speech. Furthermore, this increased use of directive speech is associated with a higher occurrence of negative consumer comments. This study's outcomes are valuable for the realm of user-generated content and natural language processing, offering practical insights for YouTube marketing strategies.

User reviews posted in the application market show high relevance with the satisfaction of application users and its significance has been proven from numerous studies. User reviews are also crucial data as they are essential for improving applications after its release. However, as infinite amounts of user reviews are posted per day, application developers are unable to examine every user review and address them. Simply addressing the reviews in a chronological order will not be enough for an adequate user satisfaction given the limited resources of the developers. As such, the following research suggests a systematical method of analyzing user reviews with a cost-benefit analysis, in which the benefit of each user review is quantified based on the number of positive/negative words and the cost of each user review is quantified by using function point, a technique that measures software size.

인터넷이 발달하고 대중화됨에 따라 소비자들은 지출에 앞서 온라인 내 타인의 정보를 반영하고 활용한다. 본 연구에서는 사회과학 실험을 통해, 레스토랑 방문 계획을 가진 소비자들이 인터넷에서 1) 정보의 작성자가 누구인지에 따라(일반 익명의 소비자 또는 전문가), 2) 정보의 방향성에 따라(긍정적인 것 또는 부정적인 것) 레스토랑 방문의도와 정보의 신뢰도에 차이가 있는지를 알아보았다. 연구목적에 부합되도록 4개의 시나리오를 작성하였다. SPSS WIN(v.16.0)을 이용하여 빈도분석과 t-test등으로 분석하였다. 2(긍정적 정보vs. 부정적 정보)*2(소비자 작성 정보 vs. 전문가 작성 정보) 실험디자인을 통해 본 연구에서는 정보 작성자에 따른 레스토랑 방문의도(p<.001)와 정보의 신뢰정도(p<.001)에 유의한 차이가 있음을 보였다. 또한 각각 긍정적 정보와 부정적 정보를 읽은 실험참가자 사이에 레스토랑 방문의도(p<.001)와 정보의 신뢰도(p<.01)에는 유의한 차이가 있음을 확인하였다. 그 밖의 연구 결과와 한계점, 후속 연구의 방향에 대해서도 논의하였다.

본 연구는 신생아 스크리닝(newborn bloodspot screening, NBS) 과정이 부모에게 미치는 사회심리적 영향과 관련 요인을 파악하기 위한 연구이다. Arksey와 O'Malley (2005)가 제시한 방법론을 사용한 주제범위 문헌고찰을 시행하였다. 검색에 사용된 데이터베이스는 PubMed, CINAHL, RISS, KISS, DBpia였으며, 2000년부터 2023년까지 출판된 논문을 포함하였다. 총 749편이 검색되었으며, 32편이 최종분석에 포함되었다. 대부분의 연구는 설문지나 면담을 통한 서술적 조사연구였고, 부정적인 사회심리적 영향을 감소시키기 위한 중재연구는 거의 없었다. 연구결과 부모들은 특히 NBS 양성 결과 통보시 의사소통 방법 및 시기적절하고 신뢰할 만한 정보을 얻기 어려운 것과 관련하여 부정적인 사회심리적 영향을 받았다. NBS에 대한 지식, 교육 및 의사소통의 질과 만족도, 정보의 근원 및 정보제공자의 역량이 NBS로 인한 부모의 사회심리적 영향의 관련 요인이었다. 산전 및 산후의 반복적 교육, 시기적절하고 신뢰할만한 정보제공 및 건강관리제공자와 부모와의 효과적인 의사소통이 NBS 과정의 부정적인 사회심리적 영향을 감소시키는데 중요하다. 간호사는 NBS의 질 향상을 위해 중요한 역할을 할 수 있다.
