  • The effective way of estimation and analysis of EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) in Wireless Power Transfer System operating at 13.56 MHz is proposed. In this paper methodology of driving magnetic field strength and electric loop current of two antennas which are in free space and on PEC plane using image theory and duality is proposed. Perfect electric conductor(PEC) is planar, infinite in extent, and perfectly conducting plane. And we will refer it as PEC plane. A equivalent circuit model is used to analyze. Using this theoretical analysis, we can derive maximum magnetic field strength of the far-field region numerically using measured data of near-field maximum magnetic field strength. The experimental results using commercial numerical simulation tool are in agreement with the theoretical results. Also, using the derivation of maximum magnetic field strength in the far-field region, we can easily estimate the maximum allowable power dissipation that meets EMI regulations.

  • Sensing soil organic matter is crucial for precision farming and environment friendly agriculture. Near infra-red(NIR) was utilized to measure the soil organic matter. Multivariate calibration methods, including stepwise multiple linear regression(MLR), principal components recession(PCR) and partial least squares regression(PLS), were applied to soil spectral reflectance data to predict the organic matter content. The effect of soil particle size and water content was studied. The range of soil organic matter contents was from 0.5 to 11%. Near infrared (NIR) region from 700 to 2,500nm was applied. For uniform soil particle size, result had good correlation (R$\^$2/ = 0.984, standard error of prediction= 0.596). The effect of soil particle size could be eliminated with 1st order derivative of the NIR signal. However. moist soil had a little lower correlation. R$\^$2/ was 0.95 and standard error of prediction was 0.94% using the PLS method. The results showed the possibility of soil organic matter measurement using NIR reflectance on the field.

  • Extraction of waterline in tidal flat has been one of the main concerns in the remote sensing of coastal region. This study aimed to define the spectral characteristics of turbid water near the shoreline and to find the appropriate spectrum to delineate the waterline at the inter-tidal flat in the western coast of Korean Peninsula. Spectral reflectance curves were obtained by the field measurements under the diverse condition of water depth and turbidity at the study area in Kyong-gi Bay. Spectroscopy measurements showed that reflectances of the exposed mudflat, shallow turbid water, and normal coastal water were significantly different by wavelength. Shallow water near the waterline showed diverse conditions of turbidity. Spectral reflectance tends to increase as turbidity increases, particularly at the visible and near infrared spectrum. At the middle infrared wavelength, tidal water showed very little reflectance regardless of the turbidity and water depth and was easily disting from the exposed tidal flat. The exact waterline between exposed tidal flat and seawater should be extracted from the image data obtained at the middle infrared wavelength.

  • A stereoscopic PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) technique was employed to measure the 3 dimensional flow structure of turbulent wake behind a marine propeller with 5 blades. The out-of-plane velocity component was determined using two CCD cameras with the angular displacement configuration. Four hundred instantaneous velocity fields were measured for each of four different blade phases and ensemble averaged to investigate the spatial evolution of the propeller wake in the near-wake region from the trailing edge to one propeller diameter(D) downstream. The phase-averaged velocity fields show the potential wake and the viscous wake developed along the blade surfaces. Tip vortices were generated periodically and the slipstream contraction occurs in the near-wake region. The out-of-plane velocity component and strain rate have large values at the locations of tip and trailing vortices. As the flow goes downstream, the turbulence intensity, the strength of tip vortices and the magnitude of out-of-plane velocity component at trailing vortices are decreased due to viscous dissipation, turbulence diffusion and blade-to-blade interaction.

  • Surface protrusions have been attached on a cylinder surface to reduce the flow-induced structural vibration by controlling the wake flow. Wind tunnel tests on the near wake of a circular cylinder with surface protrusions were carried out to investigate the flow characteristics of the controlled wake. Three experimental models were used in this experiment; one plain cylinder of diameter D and two cylinders wrapped helically by three small wires of diameter d=0.075D with pitches of 5D and 10D, respectively. Free stream velocity was ranged to have Reynolds number from 5000 to 50,000. Streamwise and vertical velocity components of the wake were measured by a hot-wire anemometry. The spanwise velocity component measured by a one-component fiber optic LDV revealed that time-averaged wake field has a nearly two-dimensional structure. It was found that the surface protrusions elongate the vortex formation region, which decrease the vortex shedding frequency. The suppression of vortices caused by the surface protrusions increases the velocity deficit in the center of wake region.

  • While some observations in the geomagnetic tail region supported electrons could be accelerated by reconnection processes, we still need more observation data to confirm electron acceleration in this region. Because most acceleration processes accompany strong pitch angle diffusion, if the electrons were accelerated in this region, strong energetic electron precipitation should be observed near earth on aurora oval. Even though there are several low altitude satellites observing electron precipitation, intense and small scale precipitation events have not been identified successfully. In this presentation, we will show an observation of strong energetic electron precipitation that might be analyzed by relativistic electron acceleration in the confined region. This event was observed by low altitude Korean STSAT-1, where intense several hundred keV electron precipitation was seen simultaneously with 10 keV electrons during storm time. In addition, we observed large magnetic field fluctuations and an ionospheric plasma depletion with FUV aurora emissions. Our observation implies relativistic electrons can be generated in the small area where Fermi acceleration might work.

  • Shocks are evolved when the relativistic jets in active galactic nuclei (AGNs), black hole binaries, supernova remnants (SNR) and gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) interact with the surrounding medium. The high energy particles are believed to be accelerated by the diffusive shock acceleration and the strong magnetic field is generated by Weibel instability in the shock. When ultrarelativistic electrons with strong magnetic field cool by the synchrotron emission, the radiation is observed in gamma-ray burst and the near-equipartitioned magnetic field in the external shock delays the afterglow emission. In this paper, we performed the 3D particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations to understand the characteristics of these relativistic shock and particle acceleration. Forward and reverse shocks are shaped while the unmagnetized injecting jet interacts with the unmagnetized ambient medium. Both upstream and downstream become thermalized and the particle accelerations are shown in each transition region of the shock structures.

  • In this paper, a mixed-mode cohesive law for an interface crack between epoxy and TR (transparent thermoplastic) resin is inversely estimated by the field projection method using numerical solutions and experimentally measured displacements. Displacements in a region far away from the crack tip are measured by digital image correlation technique. An inverse analysis, the field projection method formulated from the interaction J- and M-integrals with numerical auxiliary fields, is carried out to estimate a mixed-mode cohesive law for an interface crack between dissimilar materials. In the present approach, nonlinear deformations and damage near the crack tip are converted into the relationships of tractions and separations on crack surfaces behind the crack tip. The phase angle of mixed-mode singularities of the interface crack is also obtained from measured displacements in this study.

  • Near/far field length and directivity of transducers were investigated for the improvement and evaluation of the detectability of flaws in a disc. The reference block is fabricated for the disc of stage 6 in Yonggwang unit 1. The near/far field and directivity of an ultrasonic transducer with the center frequency of 5MHz were calculated for the inspection of the disc. These values showed good agreements with the experimental results. In the system composed of a wedge and a disc, those are evaluated theoretically and experimentally for the specimen with the artificial flaws of the size 2mm and 4mm and an ultrasonic transducer with the center frequency 5MHz and diameter 0.5inch. The detectability of keyway-flaw and detectable region for inspection were evaluated by using both tangential $45^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ transducers located at the distance of 53mm and 75mm from the disc hub, respectively.
