Near-IR Polarimetry of Star-Forming Regions around 30 Doradus

  • We present wide-field near-IR imaging polarimetry of 30 Doradus, using the InfraRed Survey Facility(IRSF) 1.4 m telescope at the South African Astronomical Observatory. We obtained polarimetry data in J, H, and Ks bands using the JHKs-simultaneous imaging polarimeter SIRPOL. 30 Doradus is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud(LMC) and it is the most active starburst region known in the Local group of galaxies. 30 Doradus is one of the best field to examine the behavior of the interstellar medium and star-formation mechanism under different conditions. We will investigate the structure of magnetic field in 30 Doradus region.

  • The effects of electrical on n-channel offset gated poly-Si TFT's have been investigated. It is observed that the electrical field near the drain region in offset devices is smaller than that of conventional device by simulation results. The variation rate of threshold voltage and subthreshold slope decrease with increasing the offset length because of lowering the electric field near the drain region. The offset gated poly-Si TFT's have been probed effective in reducing the degradation rate of device performance under electrical stressing.

Determination of seismic hazard and soil response of a critical region in Turkey considering far-field and near-field earthquake effect

  • Evaluation of earthquake impacts in settlements with a high risk of earthquake occurrence is important for the determination of site-specific dynamic soil parameters and earthquake-resistant structural planning. In this study, dynamic soil properties of Karliova (Bingol) city center, located near to the intersection point of the North Anatolian Fault Zone and the East Anatolian Fault Zone and therefore having a high earthquake risk, were investigated by one-dimensional equivalent linear site response analysis. From ground response analyses, peak ground acceleration, predominant site period, 0.2-sec and 1-sec spectral accelerations and soil amplification maps of the study area were obtained for both near-field and far-field earthquake effects. The average acceleration spectrum obtained from analysis, for a near-field earthquake scenario, was found to exceed the design spectra of the Turkish Earthquake Code and Eurocode 8. Yet, the average acceleration spectrum was found to remain below the respective design spectra of the two codes for the far-field earthquake scenario. According to both near- and far-field earthquake scenarios in the study area, the low-rise buildings with low modal vibration durations are expected to be exposed to high spectral acceleration values and high-rise buildings with high modal vibration durations will be exposed to lower spectral accelerations. While high amplification ratios are observed in the north of the study area for the near-distance earthquake scenario, high amplification ratios are observed in the south of the study area for the long-distance earthquake scenario.

담수호 저층배수시설 방류구 위치선정을 위한 저층방류수 해양수중 혼합특성해석

  • Initial mixing characteristics in near field regions were analyzed by FLOW-3D, for analyzing mixing behavior of submerged discharge from freshwater lake in sea water. FLOW-3D model was applied to the region near Geum-ho dike for its verification. Simulation results from FLOW-3D were compared to the observed data for the verification periods. FLOW-3D showed resonable prediction results compared to the observed data, except underestimation in area near outfall. Particularly, FLOW-3D showed a good prediction for movement of buoyancy jets. In addition, FLOW-3D model was applied to the region near Saemangeum dike, which is to be constructed in near future. It was expected that the results of model application to Saemangeum area could provide substantial information in planning submerged discharge facilities. Based on the model applications to Saemangeum area, it was recommended that outfall should be located to the distance which gave an enough depth of outfall from water surface.

근접 영역용 900MHz RFID 리더기 안테나에 관한 연구 (A Study on a Near-Field Reader Antenna for 900 MHz RFID)

  • 본 논문에서는 근접 영역에 적용할 수 있는 새로운 900 MHz RFID 리더기 안테나에 대한 연구 결과를 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안된 안테나는 주기성을 갖는 마이크로 스트립 안테나 구조를 사용하였다. 안테나의 크기는 $313mm{\times}152mm{\times}14mm$ 이다. 안테나의 성능은 근접영역에서 균일한 전계 분포를 갖고, 안테나의 이득은 -2 dBi 이고 하트 모양의 빔 패턴을 가진다. 제안된 안테나는 리더기의 송신출력이 17 dBm에서 23 dBm까지의 범위를 보인다. 본 논문에서 제안된 안테나는 금속면 위에 태그가 선적이 될 때 태그의 금속성분으로 인한 반사전력을 최소화하고 외부로 방사되는 전력을 최소화하여 오인식을 최소화하였다.

Effect of Inlet Geometry on Fan Performance and Inlet Flow Fields in a Semi-opened Axial Fan

  • In order to clarify the effect of inlet bellmouth size of semi-opened type axial fan on its performance and flow fields around rotor, fan test and flow field measurements using hotwire anemometer were carried out for 6 kinds of bellmouth size. As results of fan test, the shaft power curve hardly changed, even if the bellmouth size changed. On the other hand, the pressure-rise near best efficiency point became small with the bellmouth size decreasing. Therefore, the value of maximum efficiency became small as the bellmouth size decreased. As results of flow field measurements at fan inlet, the main flow region with large meridional velocity existed near blade tip when the bellmouth size was large. As bellmouth size became smaller, the meridional velocity at fan inlet became smaller and the one at outside of blade tip became larger. As results of flow field measurements at fan outlet, the main flow region existed near rotor hub side.

Power Transmission Determined by the Mutual Impedance and the Transducer Power Gain in the Near Field Region

  • This paper describes the role of mutual impedance and the transducer power gain which comes from key parameters to determine the amount of wireless power especially in a near-field environment. These two key parameters are applied to the two configurations; one is a dipole-dipole, and the other is a dipole-metal plate-loop configuration. Discussions are given on the achievable maximum power transfer between the sender and the receiver affected by the matching and the pass blockage.

  • 본 논문은 근거리 음장 측정 자료로부터 원거리 음장 예측을 위한 기술에 대한 것이다. 음원의 음장 분포 특성은 원거리에서 측정된 자료의 해석으로 이루어지는 것이 일반적 방법이나, 음향수조 또는 무향실과 같은 제한된 공간에서는 근거리 영역에서 측정이 이루어지는 경우가 발생한다. 따라서 근거리 영역에서의 측정으로부터 원거리 음장이 예측되어야 한다. 이 경우 음원을 둘러싼 근거리 음장의 측정점수는 원거리 음장 예측치의 정확도와 자료 처리의 계산량과 상관된다. 기존 연구 결과는 최적측정점수는 음원의 kL에 비례하고 음원의 기하학적 형태 또는 지향특성에 따라 kL의 의존성이 다르게 나타난다고 되어 있으나 정확한 기준이 없다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 최적측정지점수에 대한 기준을 유도하기 위해 Helmholtz 적분식과 Green 함수를 근간으로 한 원거리 음장 예측 기술인 경계배치법(Boundary Collocation Method)을 분석하여 최적측정점수는 kL이 증가함에 따라 0.54kL로 수렴한다는 결과를 얻었다. 기존의 연구 결과 보다 최적측정점수를 1/2 정도로 줄였다.

Numerical Modelling Of The Coastal Upwelling Near The Poleward Edge Of The Western Boundary Current

  • A numerical experiment is made in order to clarify the mechanism of the upwelling phenomenon along the coast near the poleward edge of the western boundary current. The possibility of the upwelling is suggested from the analysis of the observational data in the east of Honshu, Japan, and in the south eastern coast of Korean Peninsula. This upwelling phenomenon is very deep and can be traced to the bottom layer. The upwelling phenomenon seems to be a general oceanic feature which characterizes the region along the west coast near the poleward edge of the western boundary current. This experiment is simulating the oceanic condition of the transition region between Kuroshio front and the Oyashio front in the east of Honshu, Japan. The possible explanations of the causes of the upwelling are as follows;In the interior of the modeled ocean the cold heavy water supplied from the north and the warm light water from the south make the north-south gradient of the pressure field and accelerate the eastward current to produce the h-orizontal divergence feld near the west coast. The divergence is compensated by the upwelling near the separation region. Another one is that the upwell-ed cold water strengthen constantly the pressure gradient which is balanced by the northward current and is weakened by the horizontal diffusion.

콤팩트 안테나 테스트 레인지용 파라볼릭 원통형 복반사경 시스템의 근접전계 해석 (Near-field Analysis of Dual Parabolic Cylindrical Reflector System for Compact Antenna Test Range)

  • 본 논문에서는 CATR(Compact Antenna Test Range)을 위한 반사경 시스템으로 파라볼릭 원통형 복반사경 시스템을 해석하였다. 시험영역의 근접전계는 물리광학법(Physical Optics)을 적용하여 계산하였다. CATR은 균일한 평면파 제공을 위하여 최소한의 진폭과 위상 리플(ripple)을 가져야 하며 교차편파 또한 작아야 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 부반사경의 위치와 시험영역의 위치에 따른 근접전계 패턴을 구하여 전계의 리플, 테이퍼와 교차편파를 고찰하였다. 본 논문의 해석결과는 파라볼릭 원통형 복반사경 시스템으로 구성된 CATR 설계에 충분히 이용될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.
