Cu와 DyF3 분말의 혼합이 Nd-Fe-B 소결자석의 보자력에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Cu and DyF3 Powder Additions on the Coercivity of Sintered Nd-Fe-B Magnets)

  • Effect of Cu and $DyF_3$ powder mixing with Cu-free (Nd, Dy)-Fe-B jet-milled powder on the magnetic properties of sintered magnets was investigated. The coercivity of a magnet prepared from the Cu-free (Nd, Dy)-Fe-B powder was about 10 kOe even though the alloy powder already contained some Dy (3.5 wt%). When small copper powder was blended, however, the coercivity of the magnet increased almost 100%, exhibiting about 20 kOe. On the contrary, the coercivity enhancement was moderate, about 4 kOe, when dysprosium content in the sintered magnet was simply increased to 4.9 wt% by the addition of small $DyF_3$3 powder.

  • In this study, a convergent heat treatment was performed in certain temperature regions in order to control the microstructures of Nd-rich phases and to reduce thermal stress on grain boundaries which could be caused during expansion and shrinkage of Nd-rich and $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ phases. The difference of thermal expansion coefficient between $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ and Nd-rich phases is the mechanism for convergent heat treatment. The Nd-rich phases which were located in junctions could penetrate into the grain boundaries between $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ phases due to the difference of thermal expansion coefficient. Through the convergent heat treatment, the microcracks that were observed in cyclic heat treatment were not observed and coercivity was increased to 34.05 kOe at 8 cycles.

Coercivity Enhancement of Sintered Nd-Fe-B Magnets by Grain Boundary Diffusion with DyH3 Nanoparticles

  • Grain boundary diffusion technique with $DyH_3$ nanoparticles was applied to fabricate Dy-less sintered Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets with high coercivity. The magnetic properties and microstructure of magnets were systematically studied. The coercivity and remanence of grain boundary diffusion magnet were improved by 60% and reduced by 7% compared with those of the original magnet, respectively. Meanwhile, both the remanence temperature coefficient (${\alpha}$) and the coercivity temperature coefficient (${\beta}$) of the magnets were improved after diffusion treatment. Investigation shows that Dy is preferentially enriched as (Nd, Dy)$_2Fe_{14}B$ phase in the surface region of the $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ matrix grains indicated by the remarkable enhancement of the magneto-crystalline anisotropy field of the magnet. As a result, the magnet diffused with a small amount of Dy nanoparticles possesses enhanced coercivity without remarkably sacrificing its magnetization.

펄스자장을 이용한 고이방화 Nd-Fe-B자석의 종축자장성형방법 (Axial Pressing Method Using Pulse Magnetizing Field for the Preparation of Nd-Ee-B Sintered Magnets)

  • 펄스자장종축성형법(pulse die press, PDP)을 이용하여 32 wt%RE-67 wt%TM-1 wt%B(RE: 희토류원소, TM: 30천이금속)조성을 갖는 소결자석을 제조함에 있어서 자장성형시 분말의 탭밀도, 성형밀도, 인가자장세기 및 인가방법의 변화에 따라 얻어지는 자석의 배향율과 감자곡선상의 각형성 변화를 조사하였다. 출발합금 제조방법으로서 strip casting process에 의하여 $\alpha$-Fe 편석없이 미세하고 균일한 조직을 갖는 합금 flake가 얻어졌고, 합금 flake를 수소처리한 후 고압가스를 이용한 건식분쇄방법(jet mill)에 의하여 평균입도, 표준편차가 각각 3.65 $\mu\textrm{m}$, 1.39인 미세하고 균일한 입도의 분말로 제조하였다. 제조된 분말은 30-50 kOe치 고펄스자장에 의하여 분말을 배향시키고 동일한 펄스자장을 인가하면서 종축성형을 실시함으로써 배향율을 향상시킬 수 있었다. 결과적으로 32 wt%RE조성의 분말을 이용하여 종전의 자장성형방법인 TDP(transverse die press)와 본 연구에서 제안된 PDP에 의하여 제조된 자석의 최대자기에너지적은 각각 42.0 MGOe 및 44.8 MGOe가 얻어져, PDP가 분말의 배향율과 감자곡선상의 각 형성을 향상시키는데 효과적인 자장성형방법임을 알 수 있었다.

  • The performance of two designs of permanent magnet brushless motor, by having self-shielding magnetized magnets or sinusoidally shaped parallel-magnetized magnets with essentially sinusoidal airgap flux distributions, are compared. It is shown that the parallel-magnetized motor with shaped sintered NdFeB magnets can result in a higher airgap flux density and torque density than that of a self-shielding magnetized motor equipped with an anisotropic injection moulded NdFeB ring magnet.

  • Axial pressing process를 이용하여 31RE-68TM-1B(RE : 희토류원소, TM: 3d천이금속) 조성을 갖는 소결자석을 제조함에 있어서 Casting process와 Lubricant 변화에 따른 잔류자속밀도 변화를 조사하였다. 출발합금 제조방법으로서 Strip casting process는 $\alpha$-Fe 편석없이 미세하고, 균일한 microstructure를 얻기에 용이한 잇점이 있었으며, Jet mill 이후 균일한 입도의 분말을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한, Jet mill 전후에 적절한 분말 혹은 무수알콜과 같은 Lubricant를 첨가함으로써 잔류자속밀도를 향상시킬 수 있었다. 본 실험에서는 Strip casting 및 분말 Lubrican인 Zn-st(Zinc stearate)에 첨가에 의한 분말입도분포 개선효과와 무수알콜에 의한 배향율 향상효과를 접목하여 잔류자속밀도, 보자력 및 최대자기에너지적이 각각 13.1 kG, 13.5 kOe 및 39.5 MGOe인 경자기특성이 얻어졌다.

(Nd, Dy)-Fe-B 분말의 소결특성 및 상변화 연구 (Sintering Behavior and Phase Analysis of (Nd, Dy)-Fe-B Powder)

  • In this study, the sintering behavior of (Nd, Dy)-Fe-B powder which fabricated by strip-casting was investigated with various sintering temperatures and holding times. The relative density over 99% could be obtained by both sintering at $1070^{\circ}C$ for 1h and sintering at $970^{\circ}C$ for 20h. The grain growth was observed in sintered specimen at $1050^{\circ}C$ compared to one at $970^{\circ}C$. The isothermal sintering process below $1000^{\circ}C$ led to suppress grain growth showing the improved magnetic properties. The phase transformation of Nd-rich was confirmed by X-ray diffraction pattern.
