나노다이아몬드가 첨가된 탄소블록의 열전도도 특성 (The Thermal Conductivity Characteristics of Carbon Block with Nano-Diamond)

  • 탄소블록의 열전도도를 증가시키기 위하여 탄소블록 제조 공정 중 nano-diamond (ND)를 첨가하였다. 첨가된 ND는 탄화 과정에서 바인더 피치의 휘발로 인하여 생성된 탄소블록의 기공을 제어하였다. ND의 첨가는 코크스 및 바인더 피치의 혼련 공정에 추가하였으며, 성형, 탄화를 거쳐 탄소블록을 제조하였다. 첨가된 ND의 양이 증가할수록 탄소블록의 ND 비율이 증가하였다. 첨가된 ND는 탄화 과정에서 바인더 피치의 휘발로 인하여 발생하는 가스의 이동 통로 역할을 하여 탄소블록의 밀도를 높이고, 기공률을 감소시켰다. ND의 첨가를 통하여 높아진 밀도, 낮아진 기공률, ND의 높은 열전도도를 통하여 탄소블록의 열전도도를 향상시킬 수 있었다.

Preparation and Magnetic Properties of MnBi Alloy and its Hybridization with NdFeB

  • MnBi alloys were fabricated by arc melting and annealing at 573 K. The heat treatment enhanced the content of the low-temperature phase (LTP) of MnBi up to 83 wt%. The Bi-excess assisted LTP MnBi alloys were used in the hybridization with the Nd-Fe-B commercial Magnequench ribbons to form the hybrid magnets (100-x)NdFeB/xMnBi, x = 20, 30, 40, 50, and 80 wt%. The as-milled powder mixtures of Nd-Fe-B and MnBi were aligned in a magnetic field of 18 kOe and warm-compacted to anisotropic and dense bulk magnets at 573 K by 2,000 psi for 10 min. The magnetic ordering of two hard phase components strengthened by the exchange coupling enhanced the Curie temperature ($T_c$) of the magnet in comparison to that of the powder mixture sample. The prepared hybrid magnets were highly anisotropic with the ratio $M_r/M_s$ > 0.8. The exchange coupling was high, and the coercivity $_iH_c$ of the magnets was ~11-13 kOe. The maximum value of the energy product $(BH)_{max}$ was 8.4 MGOe for the magnet with x = 30%. The preparation of MnBi alloys and hybrid magnets are discussed in details.

High Coercive Nd-Fe-B Sintered Magnets for High Temperature Application

  • Various sintered magnets containing $28{\sim}31\;wt%$ Nd and $0{\sim}7\;wt%$ Dy were evaluated for coercivity and irreversible flux loss as a preliminary study to develop highly-coercive, high-temperature magnets that can be applied for driving motors in a hybrid vehicle. The sintered magnets were prepared in sequence of strip casting, HD treatment, jet milling, magnetic field pressing, sintering and post-annealing. Increasing Dy content and adjusting post-annealing temperature monotonically increased coercivity of magnets from about 14 kOe to 30 kOe. A magnet containing 28 wt% Nd and 7 wt% Dy exhibits a $(BH)_{max}$+$_i{H_c}$ value of almost 64. This is very close to what the automobile industry considers as the minimum value (65) for a hybrid vehicle system. Moreover, irreversible flux loss of the magnet was about 3% at $200^{\circ}C$, which is well less than the allowable limit (5%) to a driving motor in hybrid vehicles.

  • The application of aluminium alloy is increasing for lightweight and high quality transport vehicle. In this study, therefore, it is intended to apply the high speed hybrid welding method for marine grade aluminium alloy(A5083) used for shipbuilding that consists of 3 kW CW Nd:YAG laser and MIG welding process. For this purpose, the characteristics of process parameters(laser & arc combine angle and focal position of hybrid head to specimen) are investigated for hybrid fillet joint. This study also describes determination of heat distribution using finite element model of the T-joint fillet weld using the in-house solver which has been validated for different type of welding problems.

  • $GeO_2$/ormosil organic-inorganic hybrid films doped with neodymium ions and $TiO_2$/Ormosil organic-inorganic hybrid films dispersed with neodymium oxide nanocrystals are prepared by combining an inverse microemulsion technique and a low-temperature sol-gel technique. The effects of $Nd^{3+}$ concentration, $Nd_2O_3$ nanocrystal content, and heat treatment temperature on up-conversion and photoluminescence luminescence properties of the hybrid films are studied.

  • Recently, the application of aluminum alloys has been increasing for lightweight and high quality transport vehicles. Therefore, the proposal has been made to apply high speed hybrid welding methods to the marine grade aluminum alloy (A5052) used for shipbuilding by combining a 3-KW CW Nd : YAG laser and the MIG welding process. In this study, the characteristics of the welding parameters were investigated for a hybrid butt joint. This paper also describes the determination of the heat distribution in a weldment and the welding residual stress using a finite element method. Mechanical experimentation was also used to ascertain the reliability of the weldment.
