In order to develop navigation systems, simulators that provide navigation sensors data are required. A trajectory generator that simulates vehicle motion is needed to generate navigation sensors data in the simulator. In this paper, a trajectory generator for evaluating navigation system performance is proposed. The proposed trajectory generator consists of two parts. The first part obtains parameters from the motion scenario file whereas the second part generates position, velocity, and attitude from the parameters. In the proposed trajectory generator six degrees of freedom, halt, climb, turn, accel turn, spiral, combined, and waypoint motions are given as basic motions with parameters. These motions can be combined to generate complex trajectories of the vehicle. Maximum acceleration and jerk for linear motion and maximum angular acceleration and velocity for rotational motion are considered to generate trajectories. In order to show the usefulness of the proposed trajectory generator, trajectories were generated from motion scenario files and the results were observed. The results show that the proposed trajectory generator can accurately simulate complex vehicle motions that can be used to evaluate navigation system performance.
In order to reduce the time and cost of developing a navigation system, a performance evaluation platform can be used. A User Interface (UI) is required to effectively evaluate the performance, which sets parameters and gives navigation sensor signals and data display, and also displays navigation results. In this paper, a LabVIEW-based UI design method for multi-integrated navigation systems is proposed and implementation results are presented. The UI consists of a signal and data generation part and a signal and data processing part. The signal and data generation part sets parameters for the signal and data generation and displays the navigation sensor signal and data generation results. The signal and data processing part sets parameters for the signal and data processing and displays the navigation results. The signal and data generation part and signal and data processing part are designed to satisfy the requirements of the UI for a performance evaluation of the navigation system. In order to show the usefulness of the proposed UI design method, parameters of the signal and data generation and the signal and data processing are set through the LabVIEW-based UI, and the Global Positioning System (GPS) signal and inertial measurement unit data generation results and the navigation results of a GPS Software Defined Receiver (SDR) and inertial navigation system are confirmed. The implementation results show that the proposed UI design method helps users conduct an effective performance evaluation of navigation systems.
In this paper, a parameter optimization technique for a mobile robot navigation is discussed. Authors already have proposed a navigation algorithm for mobile robots with sonar sensors using fuzzy decision making theory. Fuzzy decision making selects the optimal via-point utilizing membership values of each via-point candidate for fuzzy navigation goals. However, to make a robot successfully navigate through an unknown and cluttered environment, one needs to adjust parameters of membership function, thus changing shape of MF, for each fuzzy goal. Furthermore, the change in robot configuration, like change in sensor arrangement or sensing range, invokes another adjusting of MFs. To accomplish an intelligent way to adjust these parameters, we adopted a genetic algorithm, which does not require any formulation of the problem, thus more appropriate for robot navigation. Genetic algorithm generates the fittest parameter set through crossover and mutation operation of its string representation. The fitness of a parameter set is assigned after a simulation run according to its time of travel, accumulated heading angle change and collision. A series of simulations for several different environments is carried out to verify the proposed method. The results show the optimal parameters can be acquired with this method.
This paper analyzes navigation performances of the Korean Positioning System (KPS) constellation with respect to the orbit parameters which fulfills the specification requirements. Specifically, the satellite configuration and navigation requirements of KPS are explained, and the daily mean horizontal dilution of precision (HDOP) and satellite visibility on KPS coverage are analyzed to confirm the adequate orbit parameters. However, due to orbital slot saturation, geostationary-orbit (GEO) satellites may not be allocated in the original orbit as specified in the KPS requirements. Therefore, in a spanned window of 4 degrees from the reference longitude the navigation performance of each GEO satellite orbit is investigated.

The article presents a systematic approach to design of marine navigation channels parameters resulting from manoeuvring and operational safety. Relations between the parameters of waterway system elements and the conditions of safe ship operation have been determined and the objective function of waterway parameters' optimization problems has been minimized with respect to variables of construction and operation costs. These costs have been functionally associated to variables of channel width at the bottom and fairway depth. The method of fairway's width computation at specified safe depth at the preliminary and detailed stages of waterway design has been proposed. The results of this method application have been illustrated with two examples: 1. The modernization of Szczecin-Swinoujscie fairway aimed at accepting vessels of 60,000 DWT capacity. 2. Construction of an approach channel leading to a newly built container terminal in Swinoujscie harbour (Poland), handling ocean-going container ships of 20,000 TEU capacity.
As part of the Global Positioning System (GPS) modernization program in the United States, Civil Navigation (CNAV) and CNAV-2 messages were developed to introduce flexibility and modern features to the Legacy Navigation (LNAV) message. This paper explores the additional parameters introduced in CNAV/CNAV-2 compared to LNAV, focusing on their roles from the user's perspective. This paper compares the structural and parameter differences among LNAV, CNAV, and CNAV-2. Additionally, we analyze the types and roles of parameters newly incorporated into CNAV/CNAV-2 that were absent in LNAV.
The design of new navigation signals is a key factor in building new satellite navigation systems and/or modernizing existing legacy systems. Navigation signal design involves selecting candidate groups and evaluating and analyzing their signal performances. This process can be easily performed through software simulation especially at the beginning of the development phase. The analytical signal performance analysis software introduced in this study is implemented based on equations between the signal design parameters of Radio Navigation Satellite Service (RNSS) and the navigation signal figures-of-merit (FoMs). Therefore, this study briefly summarizes the RNSS signal design parameters and FoMs before introducing the developed software. After that, we explain the operating sequence of the implemented software including the Graphical User Interface (GUI), and calculate the FoMs of an example scenario to verify the feasibility of the software operations.
In this paper, a Software Defined Radio (SDR) architecture was designed and implemented for rapid prototyping of GNSS receiver. The proposed SDR can receive various GNSS and direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) signals without software modification by expanded input parameters containing information of the desired signal. Input parameters include code information, center frequency, message format, etc. To receive various signal by parameter controlling, a correlator, a data bit extractor and a receiver channel were designed considering the expanded input parameters. In navigation signal processing, pseudorange was measured based on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) and appropriate navigation message decoder was selected by message format of input parameter so that receiver position can be calculated even if SDR is set up various GNSS combination. To validate the proposed SDR, the software was implemented using C++, CUDA C based on GPU and USRP. Experimentation has confirmed that changing the input parameters allows GPS, GLONASS, and BDS satellite signals to be received. The precision of the position from implemented SDR were measured below 5 m (Circular Error Probability; CEP) for all scenarios. This means that the implemented SDR operated normally. The implemented SDR will be used in a variety of fields by allowing prototyping of various GNSS signal only by changing input parameters.
Designing a new signal is essential in the development of a new Radio Navigation Satellite Service (RNSS) system. This paper introduces the signal design parameters and the figures of merit (FoMs) to be considered in designing a new RNSS signal, and then reviews their relationship in details. In addition, we show examples of the trade-off analysis between FoMs according to the signal design scenarios using an analytical simulation tool based on the relationship between the signal design parameters and the FoMs.
When performing steering by an autopilot (automatic steering gear), a sensitivity adjustment is mainly determined by P value and D value. These values differ in the optimal combination by model of ship and external forces. This research was carried out simulation case studies and examined movement of Pure Car Carrier, which easily received ship by wind pressure influence in low speed We investigated the relation of horizontal migration(transfer) of ship's body and P-D value. Based on it, four parameters of P-D at approaching berth could be suggested Hence there were suggestions of parameters; Distance to maximum lee point, Time to maximum lee point, Time to return to original course and Time to 300th second. The correlation of these parameters and P-D value were also considered. As a result, we think that this index, like formulated P-D, leads to an easy and safe navigation by utilizing these indices.
