This paper presents a satellite relative navigation strategy for formation flying, which chooses an appropriate navigation algorithm according to the operating environment. Not only global positioning system (GPS) measurements, but laser measurements can also be utilized to determine the relative positions of satellites. Laser data is used solely or together with GPS measurements. Numerical simulations were conducted to compare the relative navigation algorithm using only laser data and laser data combined with GPS data. If an accurate direction of laser pointing is estimated, the relative position of satellites can be determined using only laser measurements. If not, the combined algorithm has better performance, and is irrelevant to the precision of the relative angle data between two satellites in spherical coordinates. Within 10 km relative distance between satellites, relative navigation using double difference GPS data makes more precise relative position estimation results. If the simulation results are applied to the relative navigation strategy, the proper algorithm can be chosen, and the relative position of satellites can be estimated precisely in changing mission environments.
In this paper, the equations calculating GDOP are induced in Hyperboic, and Spherical Navigation System, respectively, The GDOP diagram shows that the DGOP in the inner region of Beacons is similar each other, but the GDOP of Hyperboic Navigation System is much larger than that of Spherical Navigation System due to GDOP in the outer region of Beacons. The authors propose the algorithm estimating the pulse starting time using the Hyperboic Navigation System, and prove that if Navigation use the Spherical Navigation System by adopting the proposed Algorithm -in this case, "Pseudo Sperical Navigation System" - in the outer region where GDOP is becoming large, the position errors can be reduced.e reduced.

Recently, a name retrieval function is widely used on navigation systems. In this paper, we propose the new dynamic hashing algorithm for a name retrieval function on it. The proposed dynamic hashing algorithm by constructing an index using the variance information of character is the better than existing methods in terms of storage capacity and retrieval speed. The algorithm proposed in this paper can be useful on systems that have limited resources as well as navigation systems.

In recent, autonomous navigation techniques to avoid obstacles have been studied by using unmanned aircraft vehicles(UAVs) since the increment of UAV's interest and utilization. Particularly, autonomous navigation based UAVs are utilized in several areas such as military, police, media, and so on. However, there are still some problems to avoid obstacle when UVAs perform autonomous navigation. For instance, the UAV can not forward in the corner of corridors even though it utilizes the improved vanish point algorithm that makes an autonomous navigation system. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an obstacle avoidance technique based on immune algorithm for autonomous navigation of Quadrotor. The proposed algorithm is consisted of two steps such as 1) single color discrimination and 2) multiple color discrimination. According to the result of experiments, we can solve the previous problem of the improved vanish point algorithm and improve the performance of autonomous navigation of Quadrotor.

Conventional inertial measurement units cannot be used in the spinning vehicle with high rotation rate due to gyro's narrow operation range. By the way, angular acceleration can be measured using the accelerometer array distributed in the vehicle. This paper derives a mechanization for the gyro-free INS in the navigation frame, and proposes a gyro-free INS algorithm based on the derived mechanization. In addition, the proposed algorithm is used to estimate angular velocity, attitude, velocity, and position of a spinning vehicle with high rotation rate. A MATLAB-based software platform is configured in order to show validation of the proposed algorithm. The reference trajectory of a spinning vehicle at 3 round per second, 30 round per second are set up, and the outputs of accelerometer are generated when triads of accelerometer are located at the origin and all the axes. Navigation results of the proposed algorithm for the generated output are presented. The results show that the proposed navigation algorithm can be applied to the spinning vehicle with high rotation rate.

In order to improve target tracking performance of the conventional electro-optical tracking system (EOTS) in the high speed and high maneuvering vehicle, an EOTS navigation algorithm is proposed, in which an inertial measurement unit(IMU) is included and navigation results of the vehicle are used. The proposed algorithm integrates vehicle's navigation results and the IMU and the time-delay and the scale factor errors are augmented into the integrated Kalman filter. In order to evaluate the proposed navigation algorithm, a land vehicle navigation experiments were performed a navigation grade navigation system, TALIN4000 and a tactical grade IMU, LN-200 and a equipment for roll motion were loaded on the land vehicle. The performance evaluation results show that the proposed algorithm effecting works in high maneuvering environment and for the time-delay.

In this study, a simulation system was developed to verify autonomous navigation algorithm in complex maritime traffic areas. In particular, real-world maritime traffic scenario was applied by considering near real-time maritime traffic information provided by Korean e-Navigation service. For this, a navigation simulation system of Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) was integrated with an e-Navigation equipment, called Electronic Chart System (ECS). To verify autonomous navigation algorithm in the simulation system, initial conditions including initial position of an own ship and a set of paths for the ship to follow are assigned by an operator. Then, considering real-world maritime traffic information obtained from the service, the simulation is implemented in which the ship repeatedly travels by avoiding surrounding obstacles (e.g., approaching ships). In this paper, the developed simulation system and its application on verification of the autonomous navigation algorithm in complex maritime traffic areas are introduced.

In this paper, a path navigation algorithm through use of a sensor platform is proposed. The sensor platform is composed of two electric motors which make panning and tilting motions. An algorithm for computing a real path and an obstacle length is developed by using a scanning method that controls rotation of the sensors on the platform. An Autonomous Robot Vehicle(ARV) can perceive the given path by adapting this algorithm. A sensor scanning method is applied to the sensor platform for using small numbers of sensor. The path navigation algorithm is composed of two parts. One is to perceive a path pattern, the other is used to avoid an obstacle. An optimal controller is designed for tracking the reference path which is generated by perceiving the path pattern. The ARV is operated using the optimal controller and the path navigation algorithm. Based on the results of actual experiments, this algorithm for an ARV proved sufficient for path navigation by small number of sensors and for a low cost controller by using the sensor platform with a scanning method.

We introduce a MEMS-based pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) system. A walking navigation algorithm for pedestrians is presented and map-matching algorithm for the navigation system based on dead reckoning (DR) is proposed. The PDR is equipped on the human body and provides the position information of pedestrians. And this is able to be used in ubiquitous sensor network (USN), U-hearth monitoring system, virtual reality (VR) and etc. The PDR detects a step using a novel technique and simultaneously estimates step length. Also an azimuth of the pedestrian is calculated using a fluxgate which is the one of magnetometers. Map-matching algorithm can be formulated to integrate the positioning data with the digital road network data. Map-matching algorithm not only enables the physical location to be identified from navigation system but also improves the positioning accuracy. However most of map-matching algorithms which are developed previously are for the car navigation system (CNS). Therefore they are not appropriate to implement to pedestrian navigation system based on DR system. In this paper, we propose walking navigation system and map-matching algorithm for PDR.
Robot navigation allows robot mobility. Therefore, mobility is an area of robotics that has been actively investigated since robots were first developed. In recent years, interest in personal service robots for homes and public facilities has increased. As a result, robot navigation within the home environment, which is an indoor environment, is being actively investigated. However, the problem with conventional navigation algorithms is that they require a large computation time for their building mapping and path planning processes. This problem makes it difficult to cope with an environment that changes in real-time. Therefore, we propose a humanoid robot navigation algorithm consisting of an image processing and optimization algorithm. This algorithm realizes navigation with less computation time than conventional navigation algorithms using map building and path planning processes, and can cope with an environment that changes in real-time.
