  • The analysis of aerodynamic characteristics for aircraft propellers is studied to develop high efficiency composite propellers. It is to verify the accuracy and reliability of predicting the efficiency characteristics of aircraft propellers by applying nonlinear numerical analysis. The numerical simulation method incorporated the CFD code, which is based on RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stocks) equation. The study includes a comparative analysis between the numerical simulation results and the wind tunnel test results of the full-scale aircraft propeller. The comparison shows that thrust and power coefficients of the propeller calculated by nonlinear numerical analysis are higher than those based on the results generated from the wind tunnel test. The efficiency of the propeller calculated by numerical analysis matches closely to the efficiency based on the wind tunnel test results. The verification results are analyzed, then, will be used in optimizing the design and manufacture of the subject aircraft propeller studied.

  • This paper discusses some practical problems of the determination of ship wave resistance from flow calculation and the model test. there are so many kind of CFD program as FLUENT, WAVIS, SHIPFLOW, COMET etc. for finding optimized hull. we should know how much percent we trust the program. so if we gather computed values of the wave resistance we'll able to get more accurated values of presumptive.

  • The present study represents the effects of boundary condition on the performance of a centrifugal blower at the interference plane between rotational and stationary domains using three dimensional compressible Navier-Stocks equations. Two boundary conditions, frozen-rotor and stage, are compared to analyze the blower performance. Installation angle between the cutoff of a volute casing and a impeller blade is also introduced to evaluate the blower performance and to understand the internal flow inside the blower. Throughout numerical simulation, it is found that the frozen rotor interface method at the interference plane represents well the variations of flow field inside the blower compared to stage interface method. However, pressure has maximum two percent error according to the installation angles while pressure is almost constant for the stage interface method. And stage interface method can relatively well predict the blower performance. Detailed internal flows of the centrifugal blower are compared and analyzed by numerical simulation.

  • In the present work, a numerical study is conducted to investigate the effect of the transient nozzle pressure ratio (NPR) on the flow fields inside the nozzle. The unsteady, compressible, axisymmetric, Navier-Stocks equations with SST $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model are solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. In order to simulate the start-up and shut-down processes of the engine, NPR is varied from 2.0 to 10.0. It is observed that the interaction patterns and the hysteresis phenomenon strongly depend on the time variation of NPR, leading to significantly different characteristics in the lateral forces.

  • In the present work, a computational study was conducted to investigate characteristic of lateral force on the flow fields inside the propulsion nozzle with step. The unsteady, compressible, axisymmetric, Navier-Stocks equations with SST k-${\omega}$ turbulence model are solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. In order to simulate the shut-down process of the engine, NPR is varied from 100.0 to 10.0. It is observed that the separation point and Mach-disk strongly depend on the variation of NPR, and adjusting the step lead to significantly different characteristics in the lateral forces.

  • The shock wave and boundary layer interaction patterns in an over-expanded rocket nozzle are associated with the production of undesirable side-forces during the start-up and shut-down processes of the engine. In the present work, a computational study is carried out to investigate the effect of the transient nozzle pressure ratio (NPR) on the flow fields inside the nozzle. The unsteady, compressible, axisymmetric, Navier-Stocks equations with SST k-${\omega}$ turbulence model are solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. • Infrared signatures emitted from hot exhaust gases generated by the internal combustion engine and generator of naval ships and from the metal surfaces of the funnel have become the targets of infrared homing missiles, which is the main cause of a reduced survivability of naval ships. The infrared signatures from the exhaust gas and the metal surface of a funnel can be reduced by installing an infrared signature suppression (IRSS) system on a ship. The IRSS system consists of three parts: an eductor that generates turbulent flow of the exhaust gas, a mixing tube that mixes the exhaust gas with ambient air, and a diffuser that forms an air film using the pressure difference between the inside and outside air. As a basic study to develop an IRSS system using domestic technology, this study analyzed the model test conditions of an IRSS system developed by an overseas engineering company and installed on a domestic naval ship, and a numerical heat-flow analysis was conducted based on the results of the aforementioned analysis. Numerical heat-flow analysis was performed using a commercial numerical-analysis application, and various turbulence models were considered. As a result, the temperature and velocity of the exhaust gas at the educator inlet and diffuser outlet and that of the metal surface of the diffuser were measured, and found to agree well with the measurement results of the model test.
