The coloring matter was extracted from the heartwood of Amur cork tree by distilled water. Change of UV-Visible spectra of coloring matter solution by extraction condition and stability for irradiation were determined, and the effect of repeated dyeing with condition of dyebath and mordanting method on shade depth and lightfastness were also investigated. The results are as follows : 1) Absorbance of Amur cork tree extract increased with the lapse of extraction time. λmax of color solution extracted from Amur cork tree was found at 420, 333, and 262nm. 2) Absorbance of Amur cork tree extract decreased remarkably after 2hr irradiation. 3) The K/S of silk fabrics increased with the increase of dyeing temperature, time, amounts of Amur cork tree for extraction, and pH of color solution. 4) K/S of silk fabrics dyed by repeated dyeing method was affected by pH and concentration of color solution. 5) Lightfastness of silk twice dyed with Amur cork tree extract after pre-mordanted by 8%(o.w.f) chromium acetate was moderately improved.
In order to study the properties of cochineal colors, uv-visible spectra of cochineal colors solution, dyeing properties on the wool in several dyeing conditions and thermodynamic parameters were investigated. UV-visible spectra of cochineal colors solution showed hypochromic effect with the lapse of irradiation time but bathochromic shift with decreasing acidity of solution and addition of metallic ions. The concentration of cochineal colors in wool fiber increased with the increase of dyeing temperature, time, and acidity of initial dyebath. The value of apparent diffusion coefficients and standard affinities of dyeing decreased with the increase of dyeing temperature. The standard heats of dyeing$(\Delta{H}^\circ)$ and variation of entropy$(\Delta{S}^\circ)$ increased with the increase of concentration of initial dyebath. The activation energy$(E_a)$ were calculated to be 1.399~2.595kcal/mol in condition of 6~1%(o.w.f) dyebath. Wool fabrics were dyed reddish blue by iron sulfate, copper sulfate, aluminum acetate and tannic acid, and red by tin chloride, respectively. Lightfastness of wool fabrics dyed by cochineal colors were increased by mordant treatment, especially copper sulfate and iron sulfate treatment.
This study investigated the proper dyeing conditions, fastness and functionality of cotton fabrics dyed with Perilla frutescens var. acuta extract. Repeat dyeing, combination dyeing of persimmon juice and fermentation dyeing were conducted as dyeing conditions. It was confirmed that the ΔE and the K/S value of cotton fabrics dyed with Perilla frutescens var. acuta extracts depending on repeat dyeing and combination dyeing slightly increased. Furthermore, the fastness to washing of persimmon combination dyeing and fermentation dyeing was very good. The fastness to rubbing was shown to be above grade 4 in all methods, and the fastness to light was not as good as grade 3 or lower. The persimmon juice dyeing, Perilla frutescens var. acuta extract repeat dyeing 4 times and combination fermentation dyeing showed very good antimicrobial abilities. Thereafter, additional studies are needed to improve the fastness to light and alternatives to further improve the dyeing properties.
Dyeability of microbial violacein produced from Chromobacterum violaceum CV107 on to multifiber fabrics has been studied. The bluish-purple colourants were produced by cultivation of Chromobacterum violaceum using LB liquid medium for 2 days. The colourant was extracted with 80% acetone and identified as violacein by LC/MS analysis. The violacein could be dyed on not only natural fibers such as Cotton, Silk and Wool but also synthetic fibers such as Diacetate, Triacetate, Creslan 61 and Nylon 66. Maximum K/S values were shown at 540-580 nm according to different fiber with color appearance of purple or blue. An optimum pH and temperature under dyeing condition were 10 and $70^{\circ}C$, respectively. Any mordants were not improved colour density and quality on various fabrics. From this studies, pigments produced microbe have a high potentials for natural dyeing on fabrics. Finally, development of new colourants from microbe has made a possible change for new dyeing field in respects of eco-friend and repeatability of natural dyeing for apparels.
This study was carried out to identify the optimum dyeing conditions for maximum dye uptake of Prunus yedoensis Matsumura flower extract on silk fabric and to investigate hue/tone characteristics and fastness properties of the dyed fabrics. As results, the flower extract was found to contain flavonoids by FT-IR and to show yellowish shade by UV-vis spectrum. Silk fabric was optimized for maximum dye uptake to five repetitions of dyeing at $80^{\circ}C$ for 60 min with an extract concentration of 600% owf in terms of both K/S and color differences. Pre-mordanting was more effective to dye uptake than post-mordanting for all of the mordants used. Un-mordanted and pre-mordanted fabric showed YR(Yellow Red) while most of post-mordanted ones did Y(Yellow). Main tones of dyed fabrics were sf(soft) and lt(light) in the case of unmordanting or Al-mordanting whereas they were d(dull) and g(grayish) by post-mordanting with Cu, Cr, and Fe, respectively. The fastness grades to rub and dry cleaning were reasonably good for most dyeing conditions while those to light were poor. Finally dyeing condition for each hue/tone of the dyed silk with the flower extract was optimized considering fastness properties.
Silk fabric was dyed using methanol extract of Chrysanthemum boreale at $60^\circ{C}$ for 40min. The K/S value of the silk fabric was highest in the premordanting method, while the amount of absorbed mordant was largest in the Cu-mordanting. The surface colors of the dyed fabric highly depended upon mordants or mordanting methods. For all cases, the value of the dyed fabric was dark. The chroma was high by using the Cr-mordant and the color difference was distinct by using the Fe-mordant. Cu-mordanted silk showed highest fastness to light. Dyed silk fabrics by mordanting method showed good antimicrobial activity ad deodorization property.
Amur cork tree contains yellow natural basic dye largely used for dyeing on silk. Dyeabilities and fastnesses of the colorant on silk fabrics were investigated , According to dye concentration, pH, temperature, time of pre- and post- treatment of mordant, K/S values and fastnesses of the silk fabrics were examined. As a results, K/S values of dyed silk fabrics were increased by pre- and post-treatment with chinese gallotannin. The optimum condition of chinese gallotannin pre-treatment was 0.15% concentration, pH 4, 70℃, and 45min, and that of post-treatment was 0.05% concentration,60℃, and 30min. The wash fastness and the light fastness were enhanced to 4 grades and 2∼3 grades.

The purpose of this study was to increase the ultraviolet-light (UV)-cut ability of cellulose fabrics (cotton, ramie, and rayon) dyed with safflower yellow colorants. For this purpose, samples treated with UV-cut agent and tannic-acid were compared with the untreated samples after UV exposure in terms of K/S value, color changes(${\Delta}E$), SEM, and strength retention. The K/S value rapidly decreased after 28 days exposure, whereas the K/S value of the samples treated with both UV-cut agent and tannic-acid decreased to less than that of the untreated samples. In color changes, $L^*$ increased while $a^*$ and $b^*$ decreased, indicating less red and yellow character in color. This induced a change in the hue, value and chroma values. However the color change(${\Delta}E$) of the samples treated with both UV-cut agent and tannic-acid was less than that of the untreated samples. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) pictures showed a severe degradation by exposure in all samples. Tensile strength rapidly decreased after 28 days for cotton and rayon, and after 21 days for ramie. However, the strength retention of the samples treated with UV-cut agent and tannic-acid was higher than that of the untreated samples.

This study examines the effects of Evening primrose on colors, color fastness, and the antimicrobial activity of dyed fabrics. The results are as follows. The dyeing conditions of Evening primrose on cotton and mercerized cotton were optimized at $50^{\circ}C$, 60 minutes, and 200% (o.w.f.). In addition, Evening primrose dyeing on silk was determined at $90^{\circ}C$, 60 minutes and 200% (o.w.f.). The pre-mordant concentration of chemicals of cotton, mercerized cotton and silk was optimized at 1% (o.w.f.). The post-mordant concentration on mercerized cotton, silk and cotton was determined at 1% (o.w.f.) and 3% (o.w.f.), respectively. The mordant methods (such as pre-mordant and post-mordant) were slightly affected on the hue of dye-fabrics. Wet cleaning fastness of cotton was improved by post-mordant; otherwise, the wet cleaning fastness of mercerized cotton and silk was improved by a pre-mordant. The dry cleaning fastness of cotton and silk was excellent regardless of mordant methods. The dry cleaning fastness of mercerized cotton was improved by a post-mordant compared to a pre-mordant. The antimicrobial activity of Evening primrose-dyed fabrics was shown at 99.9%. The excellent antimicrobial activity of dyed fabrics remained after the mordant as well as wet and dry cleaning.
