Until today, rainwater management was processed without disposing the peak discharge, which was due to rainfall, to provide stability against flood damage. In this process, the natural hydrologic cycle changed quickly, and because of this, some problems that could harm human beings and the environment arose. These problems need to be addressed accordingly. One of the proposals was to carry out decentralized rainwater management through a natural hydrologic cycle on site, including utilization, infiltration, detention, and retention of rainwater. This study aims to set the direction of applicable decentralized rainwater management to housing complex in Korea. Therefore, spacial properties in urban housing complexes were analysed such as the impervious area-to-land ratio, the green area-to-land ratio, artificial land-to-land ratio etc. As the result of this study, when a housing complex was small and developed by reconstruction, the impervious area, artificial land, the green area in the artificial land-to-land ratio were high. So, direction of decentralized rainwater management of these housing complexes is available to utilize and detain rainwater. On the other hand, those of big housing complexes in land development district were low relatively. So, direction of decentralized rainwater management of these housing complexes is available to infiltrate and evaporate rainwater.

The increasing interest in environment-friendly products brought the new so-called 'health furnitures. 'Recently health-friendly-furnitures have gained a larger share in the furniture market, but the method of making health furnitures is still stuck in the primitive stage. For example, a bed with a stone or ceramic plate is one of the most famous health furniture to date. It needs a design fairly different from an ordinary bed that uses a mattress, but there has been little development on how different it would be. Therefore the purpose of this study is to develop a new design for a newly designed stone bed to make it n)ore competitive in the market. Its basic concept is to make an high-tech but human friendly bed. It should be natural and minimal, and it should have a royal grace on it. We worked on how to maximize every requirement and applied on it. Lastly, we had an eco-friendly final touch on our new bed with environment-friendly natural lacquer, so it could discharge volatile organic compounds such as formaldehyde as little as possible.
A case study is presented where a fluvial system is modeled in three dimensions and compared to data gathered from a study of the Arkansas River. The data is unique in that it documents changes that affected a straight channel that was excavated within the river by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Excavation plan maps and sequential aerial photographs show that the channel underwent massive deposition and channel migration as it returned to a more natural, meandering path. These records illustrate that stability of fluvial system can be disrupted either by catastrophic events such as floods or by subtle events such as the altering of a stream's equilibrium base level or sediment load. SEDSIM, Stanford's Sedimentary Basin Simulation Model, is modified and used to model the Arkansas River and the geologic processes that changed in response to changing hydraulic and geologic parameters resulting from the excavation of the channel. Geologic parameters such as fluid and sediment discharge, velocity, transport capacity, and sediment load are input into the model. These parameters regulate the frequency distribution and sizes of sediment grains that are eroded, transported and deposited. The experiments compare favorably with field data, recreating similar patterns of fluid flow and sedimentation. Therefore, simulations provide insight for understanding and spatial distribution of sediment bodies in fluvial deposits and the internal sedimentary structure of fluvial reservoirs. These techniques of graphic simulation can be contributed to support the development of the new design criteria compatible with natural stream processes, espacially drainage problem to minimize environmental disruption.
In this study, multilayered SnO nanoparticles are prepared using oleylamine as a surfactant at 165℃. The physical and chemical properties of the multilayered SnO nanoparticles are determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Interestingly, when the multilayered SnO nanoparticles are heated at 400℃ under argon for 2 h, they become more efficient anode materials, maintaining their morphology. Heat treatment of the multilayered SnO nanoparticles results in enhanced discharge capacities of up to 584 mAh/g in 70 cycles and cycle stability. These materials exhibit better coulombic efficiencies. Therefore, we believe that the heat treatment of multilayered SnO nanoparticles is a suitable approach to enable their application as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.
The red alga Compsopogon caeruleus can generally be found in tropical and subtropical waters worldwide. In addition to its natural habitats, this species may be found in waters that receive abnormally hot water, e.g., from powerhouses. To date, the presence of C. caeruleus has not been observed in thermally polluted lacustrine ecosystems in Poland, which has a moderate climate. The thalli of this red alga were found growing on Vallisneria spiralis in Lichenskie Lake. Importantly, this paper presents a previously unknown relationship between the temperature (20, 25, 30, 35, and 40℃) and oxygen requirements of C. caeruleus (based on ex situ measurements of O2 consumption by thalli). Surprisingly, 35℃ can be the optimum temperature for C. caeruleus, and this temperature is higher than the values reported by some previous thermal analyses by approximately 10℃. Additionally, we reviewed and mapped the distribution of this nonnative and mesophilic red alga in natural / seminatural water ecosystems in Europe. Finally, we propose that the occurrence of C. caeruleus mature thalli can be a novel, simple and easy-to-recognize bioindicator of artificially and permanently heated waters in moderate climate zones by a regular discharge of postindustrial water.
Objective of this study was to investigate the influences of harvest index and percolation water quality as irrigated the discharge waters from an industrial and a municipal wastewater treatment plants and seawater (1:5 seawater: tap water) as alternative water resources during tillering stage for drought stress. There were four different treatments such as the discharge water from an industrial (textile dyeing manufacture plant) wastewater treatment plant (DIWT), discharge water from the municipal wastewater treatment plant (DMWT), seawater (1:5) and groundwater as a control. For the initial chemical compositions of alternative waters, it appeared that higher concentrations of COD, $Mn^{2+}$, and $Ni^+$ in DIWT were observed than reused criteria of other country for irrigation, and concentrations of $EC_i$, Cl, and $SO_4$ in seawater were higher than that for irrigation. Harvest index was not significantly different between DIWT and DMWT with different irrigation periods in two soil types, but that of seawater (1:5) is decreased with irrigation periods in clay loam soil and not different between 10 days and 20 days of irrigation periods in sandy loam soil. For percolation water qualities, values of sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) are increased with prolonging the irrigation periods of seawater (1:5) and DIWT, but those of DMWT were almost constant through the cultivation periods regardless of the irrigation period in both soil types. EG of percolation waters is eventually increased with prolonging days after irrigation regardless of irrigation periods in both soil types. Therefore, it might be concluded that there was potentially safe to irrigate the discharge water from municipal wastewater treatment plant relative to harvest index, SAR and $EC_i$ values of the ground water through the rice cultivation period at tillering stage for drought period.
During the past several decades, electricity generating plant increased with remarkable rapidity in Korea. Recently the increase has been much more rapid as the rate of industrialization has accelerated. Construction of nuclear power plants in coastal areas inevitably caused the perturbation of critical coastal habitats and thus influenced marine algal species composition. Particularly, an increase in the building of nuclear power plants led the amounts of heat discharged to increase exponentially. As far as the effects of cooling water and thermal discharges are concerned, benthic marine algae are likely to be vulnerable to a discharge. Heated effluents from nuclear power plants, with the temperature rises of 7~12$^{\circ}C$ under normal operating and design conditions, are discharged through the discharge canal and into natural water bodies. It is clear that the characteristic marine algal community is developed in the area affected by the thermal discharges; i.e. low species richness and low species diversity. Nevertheless, it is worthwhile to note that elevated temperatures exert differential effects depending on the algal populations. Benthic marine algae grown at the discharge canal can be regarded as warm tolerant species. 35 species (4 blue-green, 9 green, 8 brown and 14 red algae) of marine algae occurred more than 20eye frequency at discharge canal of three nuclear power plants in the east coast during 1992 ~ 1998 and thus can be categorized as warm tolerant species in Korea. To minimize the ecological impacts of waste heat on benthic marine algae, it is recommended that, in the future, nuclear power plants will have to employ some form of closed-cycle cooling for the condensers.
The purpose of this study is to estimate the flood discharge and peak time by the SCS method and the probability method using the geomorpologic parameters obtained from the topographic maps following the law of stream classifying and, ordering by Horton and Strahler. The SCS method and the probability method are used in estimating the times to peak and the flood discharges at An-dong, Im-ha, and Sun-san basins in the Nakdong River system. The results obtained are as follows : 1. The range of the values of the area ratio, the bifurcation ratio and the length ratio agree with those of natural streams presented by Horton and Strahler. 2. Comparisons of the probability method and observed values show that small relative errors of 0-7% of flood discharge, and 0-2hr, difference in time to peak respectivly. But the SCS method shows that large relative errors of 10-40% of flood discharge, and 0-4hr, difference in time to peak. 3. When the rainfall intensity is large, the error of flood discharge estimated by using the probability method is relativly small.

This study was conducted to develop an optimal runoff bydrograph model by comparison of the peak discharge and time to peak between observed and simulated flows derived by four different models, that is, linear time-invariant, linear time-variant, nonlinear time-invariant and nonlinear time-variant models under the conditions of heavy rainfalls with regionally uniform rainfall intensity in short durations at nine small watersheds. The results obtained through this study can be summarized as follows. 1. Parameters for four models including linear time-invariant, linear time-variant, nonlinear time-invariant and nonlinear time-variant models were calibrated using a trial and error method with rainfall and runoff data for the applied watersheds. Regression analysis among parameters, rainfall and watershed characteristics were established for both linear time-invariant and nonlinear time-invariant models. 2. Correlation coefficients of the simulated peak discharge of calibrated runoff hydrographs by using four models were shown to be a high significant to the peak of observed runoff graphs. Especially, it can be concluded that the simulated peak discharge of a linear time-variant model is approaching more closely to the observed runoff hydrograph in comparison with those of three models in the applied watersheds. 3. Correlation coefficients of the simulated time to peak of calibrated runoff hydrographs by using a linear time-variant model were shown to be a high significant to the time to peak of observed runoff hydrographs than those of the other models. 4. The peak discharge and time to peak of simulated runoff hydrogaphs by using linear time-variant model are verified to be approached more closely to those of observed runoff hydrographs than those of three models in the applied watersheds. 5. It can be generally concluded that the shape of simulated hydrograph based on a linear time-variant model is getting closer to the observed runoff hydrograph than those of three models in the applied watersheds. 6. Simulated hydrographs using the nonlinear time-variant model which is based on more closely to the theoritical background of the natural runoff process are not closer to the observed runoff hydrographs in comparison with those of three models in the applied watersheds. Consequently, it is to be desired that futher study for the nonlinear time-variant model should be continued with verification using rainfall-runoff data of the other watersheds in addition to the review of analyical techniques.

This study assessed the impact of uncertainties in flood data on the results of flood frequency analysis for Han river basin. To meet this aim, this study quantified assessment focused on the index flood and quantile by regional flood frequency analysis using the flood data from 17 water level gauges in Han river basin. We analysed the results categorized by three cases according to the characteristics of the measured data. Firstly, we analyzed the regional flood frequency for the water level gauge in the Pyungchang river basin to investigate the impact of water level data. The results has the error of 0.240 with respect to the mean flood. Secondly, we examined the impact of uncertainty in measurement data generated by the application of rating on the results of regional flood frequency analysis. We have compared the results by applying the rating estimated for each year to the one by the recently estimated rating. The results showed that the mean error has 0.246 in terms of the mean flood. Finally, we have inferred the regional flood frequency analysis results with the regulated flow in the downstream area of dams. The regulated specific discharge in the downstream area of dams controlled by dam operation showed a large difference to the estimated specific discharge in the downstream area of dams by extension of the natural specific discharge in the upstream area using the regionalization method.
