A New Spray Chrysanthemum Cultivar, "Water Fog" with Single Type and White Petals for Cut Flower (절화용 백색 흩꽃 스프레이국화 "워트포그" 육성)

  • A New spary chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum) cultivar 'Water Fog' was bred by open pollination of 'Angaesoguk'. Its characteristics were investigated three times from 2004 to 2006 under forcing culture in spring and retarding culture in autumn. The natural flowering time of 'Water Fog' was 24 October, but year-round production was possible by shading and lighting. It had flower diameter of 2.3 cm, 46.5 petals and 34.4 flowers per stem in autumn. The petal was narrow(0.4cm) and the color of petal was white with presence of green at flower center. Days to flower from short-day start for 'Water Fog' was about 48 in spring. 'Water Fog' showed the vase life of 22.6 days in autumn. This cultivar was registered for a commercialization in 2007. 'Water Fog' would be cultured under greenhouse and rain shelter condition in Korea.

Establishment of propagation system for in vitro calla plants(Zantedeschia spp.) by using auxin and cytokinin hormones treatments (오옥신과 사이토키닌 호르몬 처리를 이용한 칼라 기내 식물체 대량증식체계 확립)

  • There are two kinds of calla belonging to the Zantedeschia spp. depending on the growing condition. Between them, various colored calla with flower shape and flower color are very popular as cut flowers. However, colored calla is very low in natural reproduction rate, and it takes a long time to obtain a flowering bulb. So it is urgent to establish a large breeding system of good varieties. In this study, various plant growth hormone treatments were carried out to improve the growth of the plants in calla. Root formation was the highest at 81.5 % in basal MS medium, and the formation of shoot and multiple shoots were the highest at 100.0 % and 36.4 % in the combined treatment of BA 2.0 mg/L and IBA 1.0 mg/L, respectively. In fresh weight, the highest growth rate was observed with 11.2 times increase in BA 2.0 mg/L single treatment. Auxin and cytokinin mixed treatment were widely used in previous studies and positive effects on the growth of calla plants will help to establish the micro-propagation system.

Quality Characteristics of Topokkidduk Added with Enteromorpha intestinalis Powder (파래분말을 첨가한 떡볶이 떡의 품질 특성)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the total polyphenol content and DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging activity of hot water (EIW) and 80% ethanol (EIE) extracts of Enteromorpha intestinalis and the quality characteristics of Topokkidduk prepared with different amounts (0, 1, 3, and 5%) of Enteromorpha intestinalis powder (EIP). The total polyphenol contents of the EIW and EIE extracts were 2.04 and 6.73 mg tannic acid equivalents (TAE)/g, respectively. The DPPH radical scavenging activities of EIW and EIE were markedly increased in a dose-dependent manner, and were about 19.74% and 81.69%, respectively, at 10 mg/ml. The moisture content was higher at 0% EIP (p<0.05). The L value and the a value of Topokkidduk significantly decreased when the amounts of EIP increased (p<0.05), but the b value of Topokkidduk significantly increased when the amounts of EIP increased (p<0.05). Hardness, chewiness, adhesiveness, springiness, and brittleness increased with increasing EIP concentration. The cohesiveness was higher at 3% EIP, but no significant difference was noted between 0% and 1% EIP. The total polyphenol content and DPPH radical scavenging activity significantly increased upon addition of EIP (p<0.05). A sensory evaluation revealed a higher color, texture, and taste of Topokkidduk in groups containing 0% EIP, but the flavor was highest for Topokkidduk with 0% EIP added. Overall acceptability was higher at 0% EIP, but no significant difference was noted between 0 and 1%. These results suggest that Enteromorpha intestinalis has great potential as a source for natural health products.

Image Quality for TV Genre Depending on Viewers Experience (시청자 경험에 의한 TV장르별 화질)

  • Conventional image quality studies have been focused on 'naturalness' and has relied on memory color. Memory colors are mainly formed for familiar objects with prior experience, and the more faithfully these memories are reflected, the more naturalness of the reproduced image quality increases. In particular, the brightness and saturation of memory colors play an important role in increasing the preference of image quality as well as naturalness. Therefore, in the case of existing image quality studies, image quality characteristics were studied focusing on natural objects and people with memory. We extracted representative images of each genre (sports, documentaries, news, entertainment and music, and movies), adjusted the brightness, contrast, and saturation of each image, and conducted an experiment to evaluate perceived quality. Based on situational context, the results of this classification indicated that genres of television content can be divided into two categories: proximate and indirect experiences. Proximate experience best characterizes outdoor sports, dramas, and nature documentaries, where their image qualities have shown to have a strong correlation with brightness and contrast. On the other hand, indirect experience best characterizes news, music shows and SF/action movies. The image quality perception for indirect experiences was shown to be closely related to and optimized by contrast and saturation.

  • Due to the modern appearance management craze to deliver a positive image to others, beauty has been subdivided and diversified based on science and technology, and has established itself as a professional technical profession. As the national technical qualification for makeup cosmetologists is separated from cosmetologists (integrated), it is necessary to analyze the correlation with the job attitude of make-up cosmetologists at industrial sites along with verification of the effectiveness of the practical test task. Therefore, in this study, the first task, wedding (romantic), wedding (classic), hanbok, natural makeup, etc., to investigate the job efficacy and job satisfaction perceived by makeup beauticians due to beauty makeup procedures, such as wedding (romantic), wedding (classic), and after establishing a hypothesis. As a result of the study, it was found that wedding classic makeup and wedding romantic makeup treatment induce job efficacy and job satisfaction, respectively, in makeup artists. This suggests that high saturation and intense color expression have a positive effect on job attitude due to the nature of makeup work. Therefore, based on the results of this study, it is judged that future efforts are needed to update the practical makeup tasks that have doubled the effectiveness and to improve the job attitude of makeup beauticians.

Aesthetic implant restoration with alveolar bone graft and digital method on maxillary central incisor: a case report (치조골이식과 디지털 방법을 활용한 상악 중절치 임플란트 심미 수복 증례)

  • In case of gingival recession or bone defect in maxillary anterior implant treatment, it is not easy to obtain satisfactory clinical results. In this case, loss of the labial alveolar plate was diagnosed in the maxillary right central incisor, so after tooth extraction, soft tissue was secured and implant placement with bone graft was planned. In addition, digital guide surgery was performed for the ideal implant position, and GBR (Guided Bone Regeneration) was accompanied with the xenogeneic bone and the autologous bone collected from the mandibular ramus since alveolar bone defects were extensive. After a sufficient period of osseointegration of the implant, a temporary prosthesis was fabricated through secondary stage surgery and impression taking, and through periodic external adjustment, the shape of soft tissue was improved. In the final prosthesis fabrication, a color tone of natural teeth was induced by an gold anodized customized abutment, and an aesthetic and functional zirconia prosthesis with reproducing the shape of the temporary prosthesis through intraoral scan was delivered.

Depigmenting Effects of Mistletoe (Viscum album var. coloratum) Extracts (겨우살이 추출물의 미백 효과)

  • Melanin pigments are the main cause of skin color. They are produced in melanocytes and then transferred to keratinocytes, which eventually gives the skin surface a variety of colors. Although many skin-lightening or depigmenting agents have been developed, the demand for materials to reduce pig- mentation is still increasing. Here, we tried to find materials for skin-lightening or depigmentation using natural compounds and found that mistletoe (Viscum album var. coloratum) extracts (ME) had an inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity. As a result, ME significantly reduced pigmentation in human primary melanocytes. In addition, a promoter reporter assay revealed that ME inhibited the transcription of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF), melanophilin (MLPH), tyrosinase-related protein-2 (TRP-2), and tyrosinase (TYR) genes in HM3KO melanoma cells. In addition, ME decreased the protein level for pigmentation-related molecules, such as TYR and TRP-1. Furthermore, it markedly inhibited the melanogenesis of zebrafish embryos, an in vivo evaluation model for pigmentation. To elucidate the action mechanism of ME, we investigated its effects on intracellular signaling. Eventually, the ME dramatically decreased the phosphorylation of the cAMP responsive element binding protein (CREB), AKT, and ERK. The data suggest that ME may inhibit the melanogenesis pathway by regulating the signaling pathway related to pigmentation. Taken together, these data propose that ME can be developed as a depigmenting or skin-lightening agent.

Production of Carotenoids by Bacteria; Carotenoid Productivity and Availability (박테리아에 의한 카로티노이드 생산; 카로티노이드 생산성 및 활용 가능성)

  • Carotenoids are red, orange, and yellow fat-soluble pigments that exist in nature, and are known as physiologically active substances with various functions, such as provitamin A, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer. Because of their physiological activity and color availability, carotenoids are widely used in the food, cosmetics, and aquaculture industries. Currently, most carotenoids used industrially use chemical synthesis because of their low production cost, but natural carotenoids are in the spotlight because of their safety and physiologically active effects. However, the production of carotenoids in plants and animals is limited for economic reasons. Carotenoids produced by bacteria have a good advantage in replacing carotenoids produced by chemical synthesis. Since carotenoids produced from bacteria have limited industrial applications due to low productivity, studies are continuously being conducted to increase the production of carotenoids by bacteria. Studies conducted to increase carotenoid production from bacteria include the activity of enzymes in the bacterial carotenoid biosynthesis pathway, the development of mutant strains using physical and chemical mutagens, increasing carotenoid productivity in strain construction through genetic engineering, carotenoid accumulation through stress induction, fermentation medium composition, culture conditions, co-culture with other strains, etc. The aim of this article was to review studies conducted to increase the productivity of carotenoids from bacteria.

The Formation of Linear Thinking in Traditional Chinese Music and Its Causes (중국 전통음악 선형적 사유의 형성과 그 원인)

  • Traditional Chinese music has a deep indigenous color and has its own unique way of thinking and characteristics. A consensus has already been formed that linear thinking is a major feature of traditional Chinese music, and it has been implemented in both traditional multi-tone and single-tone music. It is mainly expressed in the form of single-tone music or single-tone music. This linear thought of traditional Chinese music is formed by influencing factors in various fields. For example, it is related to national culture, geographical and natural environment, religious and philosophical background, traditional Chinese notation, individual characteristics of traditional musical instruments, Yulje, composition, and transmission methods. This thinking is different from Western classical music that pursues three-dimensional thinking, and Western music emphasizes the harmony of harmony, harmony of tone and texture, logic and identity of structure, and emphasizes the aspect of space. However, traditional Chinese music emphasizes the horizontal development of melody, the fluency of ancestors, and the continuity of structure. We aims to analyze the causes of linear thinking of traditional Chinese music so that it can be more useful in educational aspects and promote the succession and development of traditional music by transferring knowledge of ethnic music.

Quality Evaluation by the Addition of Pine Needle and Artemisia princeps Extracts in Vinegared Kochujang (솔잎, 약쑥추출물을 첨가한 초고추장의 품질평가)

  • This study was carried out to develop natural vinegared kochujang. We first formulated vinegared kochujang containing pine needle (PN) and Artemisia princeps (AP) extracts. A dominant strain was isolated from the vinegared kochujang and identified as Bacillus amyloliquefaciens ER282 based on the 16S rDNA sequence. The plant extracts of PN and AP were also investigated for their antibacterial activity and showed enough good activities to use for vinegared kochujang as a natural preservative. Quality characteristics of vinegared kochujang were evaluated, based on total cell numbers, pH, acidity, sugar content, color and sensory evaluation during storage at $25^{\circ}C$ and $37^{\circ}C$, respectively, for 3 weeks. No significant differences were found in the pHs and acidities of vinegared kochujang added with the plant extracts of PN and AP during their storage compared to starting time; however, total cell numbers were gradually decreased during the storage at $25^{\circ}C$ and $37^{\circ}C$, as the storage period was increased. For sensory evaluation, overall preference continuously declined depending on storage period, but the addition of 3% extracts of PN could delay the quality loss of vinegared kochujang during storage at $25^{\circ}C$ and $37^{\circ}C$ for 3 weeks.
