  • The flexibility of long reach manipulators presents a difficult control problem when accurate end-point position is required. Input shaping by convolving system commands with impulse sequences has been shown to be an effective method of reducing residual vibrations in flexible systems. However, existing shapers have been considered robustness fur only frequency uncertainty. However, this paper presents new multi-hump convolution(CV) input shaper that could accommodate with the simultaneous variation of natural frequency and damping ratio. Comparisons with previously proposed input shapers are presented to illustrate the qualities of the new input shaper. These new shapers will be shown to have better robustness fur the variation of frequency and damping ratio.

  • An optimal shape design algorithm is suggested to systematically design a traditional Korean musical instrument, the Pyeongyeong. The Pyeongyeong consists of 16 different chime stones called Gyeongpyeons. The first natural vibration frequency of each Gyeongpyeon must be adjusted to its target frequency, which is determined by the traditional sound tuning method. The second and third natural frequencies must be proportional to the first natural frequency with a specific ratio (1:1.498:2.378). The key idea in our suggested design algorithm is to use the sensitivity of natural frequencies to the variation in the length of each side of a Gyeongpyeon. The dimensions of five different Gyeongpyeons are determined by following the suggested algorithm. Changes in natural frequencies with respect to local thickness variation are closely investigated to compensate for errors that may occur during manufacturing.

  • In the present study, according to the important of porosity in low specific weight in comparison of high stiffness of carbon nanotubes reinforced composite, buckling and free vibration analysis of sandwich composite beam in two configurations, of laminates using differential quadrature method (DQM) is studied. Also, the effects of porosity coefficient and three types of porosity distribution on critical buckling load and natural frequency are discussed. It is shown the buckling loads and natural frequencies of laminate 1 are significantly larger than the results of laminate 2. When configuration 2 (the core is made of FRC) and laminate 1 ([0/90/0/45/90]s) are used, the first natural frequency rises noticeably. It is also demonstrated that the influence of the core height in the case of lower carbon volume fractions is negligible. Even though, when volume fraction of fiber increases, the critical buckling load enhances smoothly. It should be noticed the amount of decline has inverse relationship with the beam aspect ratio. Investigating three porosity patterns, beam with the distribution of porosity Type 2 has the maximum critical buckling load and first natural frequency. Among three elastic foundations (constant, linear and parabolic), buckling load and natural frequency in linear variation has the least amount. For all kind of elastic foundations, when the porosity coefficient increases, critical buckling load and natural frequency decline significantly.

  • Brake judder, one of low Sequency vibrations in brake system is determined by the excitation of Brake Torque Variation (BTV). The largest contributor to BTV is disc thickness variation. In this study, the static loads of brake torque at Suspension Mounting Points (SW) are obtained by the quasi-static analysis using DADS. The dynamic loads with frequency of BTV at SW are derived from correlation between forced vibration analysis with static loads and brake test results. And the accelerations at steering wheel were analyzed by forced vibration analysis with dynamic loads using commercial finite element program MSC/NASTRAN so that vibration characteristics of vehicle due to brake judder were investigated. Reliability of analysis results was verified through comparing the brake test results. Also, a parametric study with natural frequencies of frame, such as the 1st torsional mode and 1st bending mode, was conducted to reduce vibration amplitudes. As a result we could detect frame natural frequency conditions to improve vibration characteristics and obtained the frame model to reduce vibration amplitude.

  • The interaction of electromagnetic forces and mechanical structure of switched reluctance motors(SRM) is the major cause of the noise and vibration. The stator part in SRM produces the most vibrations. Therefore, it is necessary to know the natural frequencies of the stator. In this paper, the variation of natural frequencies according to the design parameters is investigated to avoid the resonance. The natural frequency of the tested motor is founded by the frequency response function obtained by a experimental modal analysis.

  • In the present paper, the influences of the variation of exponent of volume fraction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the natural frequencies (NFs) of the carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) beams under four different boundary conditions (BCs) are investigated. The single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are assumed to be aligned and dispersed in a polymeric matrix with various reinforcing patterns, according to the variation of exponent of volume fraction of CNTs for functionally graded (FG) reinforcements. Besides, uniform distribution (UD) of reinforcement is also considered to analyze the influence of the non-linear (NL) variation of the reinforcement of CNTs. Using Hamilton's principle and third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT), the equations of motion of the CNTRC beam are derived. Under four different BCs, the resulting equations are solved analytically. To verify the present formulation, comparison investigations are conducted. To examine the impacts of several factors on the NFs of the CNTRC beams, numerical examples and some benchmark results are presented.

  • This paper presents an analytical approach to describe the variation in the vibration characteristics such as the natural frequency of a piezoelectric transducer under static pre-pressure. The transducer considered in this paper is a bolt-clamped Langevin-type transducer, which consists of a couple of piezoelectric discs, a couple of metal blocks for added mass effect, and a bolt to tighten them. A new analysis model for the transducer has been developed by taking into account the contact area between the piezoelectric ceramic disc and the metal block. The variation of the resonance frequency due to the pre-pressure has been calculated and compared with measured results reported earlier.

  • This paper describes the effects of dual dynamic vibration absorbers attached to a primary vibration system with damping. The efficiency of dual dynamic vibration absorbers was investigated with the height of amplitude ratio at the resonance frequency ratio of the damped vibration system according to mass ratio, natural frequency ratio and damping ratio. The variation of amplitude ratio related to frequency ratio of primary vibration system is verified experimentally and theoretically according to dual dynamic vibration systems using computer program designed to find mutual relationship between two absorbers.

  • Effects of microstructure of two Mg-ferrite specimens with the same starting composition and relative density but with different grain size on B-H hysteresis loop, natural resonance frequency, and ferromagnetic resonance line width are reported. Such properties as B-H hysteresis loop, saturation magnetization, natural resonance frequency, and ferromagnetic resonance line width were influenced by the microstructure development during sintering. Large grain size specimen showed high saturation magnetization, low coercive force, low natural resonance frequency, and low ferromagnetic resonance line width compared with the specimen of small grain size. The main reason for the changes in properties can be explained by the variation in anisotropic characteristics due to Fe+2 content generated during sintering process.
