  • In this paper we propose a smooth nonparametric estimator of mean residual life based on a complete sample. This estimator is constructed using the maximum likelihood estimate of cumulative failure rate in the class of distributions which have piecewise linear failure rate functions between each pair of observations. We derive the asymptotic properties of our estimator. Examples using simulated data are used to illustrate the performance of this estimation.

  • Experimenters often want to test whether a specific treatment is really better than the others. In such a problem we derive the likelihood ratio test and compare the result with other multiple comparisons procedures. A nonparametric procedure based on ranks is also considered. Pitman efficiency of the rank-sum procedure relative to the likelihood ratio test is computed.

  • In this paper we propose a parametric and a nonparametric small sample estimators for the mean residual life (MRL) under the random censorship model using the partial moment approximation. We also compare the proposed nonparametric estimator with the well-known nonparametric MRL estimator based on Kaplan-Meier estimator of the survival function, and present the efficiency of the nonparametric method relative to the Weibull model for small samples.

  • Library statistics is used for internal decisions to know and assess library operations or for external justifications to show of how libraries meet users' needs and contribute to the organization. It is included same frameworks with social indicators and cultural indicators in national level. In this basis, national library statistics, they are ANSI/NISO Z39.7, Canada's Core library statistics, LIST of united Kingdom, are examined and Delphi method is used for new scheme of korean library statistics. As the results, it is suggested that new korean framework of library statistics is composed of 7 parts with 31 items. There are 6 parts with 21 items of social indicators or cultural indicators related to library items as well.

  • In this article, several problems inherent in histogram estimate of unknown probability density function are discussed. Those include so called sharp comers and bin edge effect. A resolution for these problems occurred with histogram is discussed. The resulting estimate is called kernel density estimate which is most widely used by data analysts. One of the most recent and reliable data-based choices of scale factor (bandwidth) of the estimate, which has been known to be most crucial, is also discussed.

  • A Bayesian estimation of the four-parameter gamma distribution is considered under the noninformative prior. The Bayesian estimators are obtained by the Gibbs sampling. The generation of the shape/power parameter and the power parameter in the Gibbs sampler is implemented using the adaptive rejection sampling algorithm of Gilks and Wild (1992). Also, the location parameter is generated using the adaptive rejection Metropolis sampling algorithm of Gilks, Best and Tan (1995). Finally, the simulation result is presented.

  • Recently, the demand of the Intelligent Transportation System(ITS) has been increased to a large extent, and a real-time traffic information service based on the internet system became very important. When ITS companies carry out real-time traffic services, they find some traffic data missing, and use the conventional method of reconstructing missing values by calculating average time trend. However, the method is found unsatisfactory, so that we develop a new method based the spatial and spatial-temporal models. A cross-validation technique shows that the spatial-temporal model outperforms the others.

The generation of the shape parameter and scale parameter in the Gibbs sampler is implemented using the adaptive rejection Metropolis sampling algorithm of Gilks et al. (1995). A Monte Carlo study showed that the Bayesian estimators proposed outperform other estimators in the sense of mean squared error.

  • IoT should be considered security risk environments such as various platforms and services including smart devices that can be mounted on household electric appliances, healthcare, car, and heterogeneous networks that are connected to the Internet, cloud services and mobile Apps.. In this paper, we provide analysis of new security threats, caused by open-platform of IoT and sensors via the Internet. Also, we present the key recovery mechanism that is applied to IoT. It results to have compatibility with given research, reduces network overhead, and performs key recovery without depending on key escrow agencies or authorized party.
