Day care center for the elderly is an alternative for community care for frail elderly who need social participation and physical cares and services outside the family. The purpose of this study was to identify the present situation of day care center for the elderly and to suggest desirable interior space plans for elderly day care center. Data were collected by two ways; a mail survey and case studies of existing day care centers. Five cases of day care centers were analyzed to find out Physical and space problems, available programs and services. Also, the staffs in 96 day care centers for the elderly in nationwide were selected for a mail survey and 68.8 percentage of all was collected and analyzed. From the result of case studies, narrow space and lack of accessibility features for wheelchair or other prosthetic devices were the major problems. From the result of a mail survey analysis, the elderly users were over 73 years old, and high proportion had suffered from dementia and apoplexy Also, staffing ration was 1:7 In other words, one staff was caring of 7 old people, and supporting staff was insufficient. Therefore, supportive, therapeutic environment Was more important issue to improve quality of care. Separate program room and outdoor space, lounging space, treatment room by gardening, separate counselling room, bedroom, a simple kitchen unit, staff office, separate physical treatment room, resting room for staff was indicated more necessarily. When priority of planning interior space was safety followed by accessability and convenience, it was also reported that sire of each room was generally narrow. The most serious problem in interior space was the lack and narrowness of space, and accessible features for mobility. Based on the literature review and the findings of this study, two types of floor plans for elderly day care center were suggested;‘a mixed type for the elderly with and without dementia’and‘a separate type for the elderly with dementia.’The main goals for designing interior space for two types of elderly day care center were to provide safe environment, encouraging environment for remaining abilities of users, sanitary environment, therapeutic environment, familiar environment, and socially-encouraging environment. The recommendations for further studies were suggested.
This study examines the properties of spaces where historical and cultural resources have been preserved in the street system of Daegu Yakryeong market district, by using Space Syntax methodology. The results were obtained through ASA(Angular Segment Analysis) on each node (spatial unit) in the street network. An overall characteristic of spatial configuration in street system of the surveyed district is that nodes in the street network tend to form socially integrated spatial structure to allow easy access to each space in the system. There are a small number of socially isolated spaces in the street system, which are located at nodes in narrow streets adjacent to the roadway outside the district, or in narrow alleys between early modern Korean buildings. More than half of the surveyed spaces have high levels of social integration, which contain buildings playing a central role of the community, a traditional street market, symbolic landmarks. In conclusion, it is expected that the achievements of this study will contribute in leading to rational land use planning for sound and sustainable development of historical and cultural resources in an urban district.
In this paper, the details and design process of an optical system for space target detection cameras are introduced. The whole system is divided into three structures. The first structure is a short-focus visible light system for rough detection in a large field of view. The field of view is 2°, the effective focal length is 1,125 mm, and the F-number is 3.83. The second structure is a telephoto visible light system for precise detection in a small field of view. The field of view is 1°, the effective focal length is 2,300 mm, and the F-number is 7.67. The third structure is an infrared light detection system. The field of view is 2°, the effective focal length is 390 mm, and the F-number is 1.3. The visible long-focus narrow field of view and visible short-focus wide field of view are switched through a turning mirror. Design results show that the modulation transfer functions of the three structures of the system are close to the diffraction limit. It can further be seen that the short-focus wide-field-of-view distortion is controlled within 0.1%, the long-focus narrow-field-of-view distortion within 0.5%, and the infrared subsystem distortion within 0.2%. The imaging effect is good and the purpose of the design is achieved.
This study analyzes the physical environments of studio-housing and suggests alternative solutions for the problems of studio-housing. Based on solving the problems of it through previous research review, the research methods are decided on-site survey and the housing floor plan analysis. The results of this study are follows. First, parking lots make passengers uncomfortable. Narrow spaces between buildings cause problems in terms of light, ventilation, and privacy. Moreover, the short of green space makes living conditions less amenable. Second, the narrow corridors of studio-housing buildings bring about bad effects on walking and privacy. The living conditions becomes worse due to the illegal remodeling. Third, even though a multi-family housing provision for low or middle-income families is a good housing policy, new design policies or interventions are needed to make residents' behavior comfortable.

In this study, we consider the challenges in motion planning for automated driving systems. Most of the existing online motion-planning algorithms, which take dynamics into account, find it difficult to operate in an environment with narrow passages. Some of the existing algorithms overcome this by offline preprocessing if environment is known. In this work an online algorithm for motion planning with dynamics in an unknown cluttered environment with narrow passages is presented. It utilizes an idea of hybrid planning with sampling- and discretization-based motion planners, which run simultaneously in a full configuration space and a derived reduced space. The proposed algorithm has been implemented and tested with a real autonomous vehicle. It provides significant improvements in computational time performance over basic planning algorithms and allows the generation of smoother paths than those generated by the recently developed hybrid motion planners.
The contemporary society needs complex space for multiple function. Interior space plan should suggest the solution of the narrow site and process for multiple function through showing the examples of other functional spaces. The purpose of this study is choosing an express station which has wide site and cultural exchange function, while it is not used for specific function and then the waiting room of station adapted for cultural and multiple functional space.
The robot to search and rescue is used in narrow space where human cannot approach. In case of this robot, it can overcome obstacles such as wrecks or stairs etc. Also, this robot can do various locomotion for each object. In this reason, an articulated robot has advantages comparing with one module robot. However, the existing articulated robot has limits to overcome vertical passages. For expanding contacted territory of robot, a novel mechanism is demanded. In this paper, the novel mechanism of articulated mobile robot is designed for moving level ground and vertical passages. This paper proposes to change wheel alignment. The robot needs two important motions for passing vertical passages like pipe. One is a motion to press wheels at wall for not falling into gravity direction. The other is a motion that wheels contact a vertical direction of wall's tangential direction for reducing loss of force. The mechanism of the robot focused that two motions can be acted to use just one motor. Length of each link of robot is optimized that wheels contact a vertical direction of wall's tangential direction through kinematic modeling of each link. The force of pressing wall of robot is calculated through dynamic modeling. This robot composes four modules. This mechanism is confirmed by dynamic simulation using ADAMS program. The articulated mobile robot is elaborated based on the results of kinematic modeling and dynamic simulation.
We explore the role of various environments in triggering star formation (SF) and narrow-line active galactic nucleus (AGN) in SDSS spiral galaxies and the SF-AGN connection, using a volume-limited sample with $M_r$ < -19.5 and 0.02 < z < 0.055 selected from the SDSS Release 7. To avoid the dependency of AGN activity on bulge mass, the central velocity dispersion of the sample galaxies is limited to have a narrow range of $130{\leq}{\sigma}{\leq}200km\;s^{-1}$. We note that in gas sufficient galaxies, AGN feeding lags behind starburst, whereas as the gas exhausts, the SF slows down and AGN seems to even prevent the SF, and thus divide the high-${\sigma}$ sample into two subsamples according to their cold gas content at central region traced by fiber star formation rate, $SFR_{fib}$. We find that a high density (cluster) environment causes a significant increase in AGN activity as well as gas depletion in host galaxies. However, the finding is only noticeable in the high-${\sigma}$ and low $SFR_{fib}$ sample. It seems that a galaxy interaction with the nearest neighbor directly affects the SF of the central region. However, it is unclear whether it directly affects AGN activity.
It is important to understand tile behaviours of tile high pressure DC glow discharge with a micro gap inside a pixel of the plasmas display panel. We prepared a narrow gap discharge system and have measured electron temperature and density by means of double probe methods in high pressure which was between 100torr and 200torr. And the electrode gap was 7mm. When the pressure varied from 100torr to 200torr, the negative glow was created at a distance less than 1mm from the cathode. And the length of the faraday dark space decreased from 8mm to 5mm. Hence probe measurements was mainly, performed in the region of the Faraday dark space. The dependence of electron temperature and density on the pressure and current density was same with that of the general flow discharge, i.e. as the pressure increased the electron temperature decreased and the density increased. But the spatial electron density distribution in the Faraday dark space was highly distorted because of the effect of high pressure.
