  • Nano seed incorporated in micro-sized 4BS (Tetrabasic lead Sulfate) seed was applied to the positive electrode active material and compared with Nano 4BS seed (NS). The dispersion of NS decreased due to the aggregation phenomenon, while the nano seed incorporated in micro-sized 4BS seed (INS) could confirm excellent dispersion. As the content of INS increased, the particle size of the active material became small and constant, which was confirmed through SEM and particle size analysis. The specific surface area for the reaction was increased and the high-rate discharge and lifetime characteristics were improved. In order to confirm the variation in particle size distribution in the plate manufacturing process, internal resistance and voltage were measured for 200 AGM lead-acid batteries, and it was confirmed that batteries quality variation decreased.

  • Al-doped ZnO (AZO) thin films were grown on quartz substrates by the sol-gel method. The effects of the Al mole fraction on the structural and optical properties of the AZO thin films were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV-VIS spectroscopy. The particle size of the AZO thin films decreased with an increase in Al concentrations. The optical parameters, the optical band gap, absorption coefficient, refractive index, dispersion parameter, and optical conductivity, were studied in order to investigate the effects of Al concentration on the optical properties of AZO thin films. The dispersion energy, single-oscillator energy, average oscillator wavelength, average oscillator strength, and refractive index at an infinite wavelength of the AZO thin films were affected by the Al incorporation. The optical conductivity of the AZO thin films also increased with increasing photon energy.

  • To date, nondestructive tests (NDT) applications and advances in detecting the dispersion and defections of the nano concrete (NC) materials fields are very limited. The current paper provides a review of the dispersion efficiency of nanomaterials in cement-based materials and how NDT can be efficiently used in detecting and visualizing the defections and dispersions of NC. The review identifies the characteristics of different types of nanoparticles used in NC. Nanomaterials influences on concrete characteristics and their dispersion degree are presented and discussed. The main aim of this article is to present and compare the common NDT that can be used for detecting and visualizing the defections and dispersions of different kinds of nanomaterials utilized in NC. The different microscopy and X-ray methods are explicitly reviewed and compared. Based on the collected data, it can be concluded that the fully detecting and visualizing of NC defections and dispersions have not been fully discovered and that needs further investigations. So, the distinction of this paper lies in defining NDT that can be employed for detecting and/or visualizing NC defections and dispersions.

  • In this paper, we have investigated temperature dependence of dielectric breakdown voltage at epoxy with added nano-filler(MgO), which is used as a filler of epoxy additives for HVDC(high voltage direct current) submarine cable insulating material with high thermal conductivity and restraining tree to improve electrical properties of epoxy resin in high temperature region. In order to find dispersion of the specimen, the cross sectional area of nano-composite material is observed by using the SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) and it is conformed that each specimen is evenly distributed without the cohesion. As a result, it is confirmed that the strength of breakdown of all specimen at 50 [$^{\circ}C$] decreased more than that of the dielectric breakdown strength at room temperature. When temperature increases from 50 [$^{\circ}C$] to 100 [$^{\circ}C$], we have confirmed that breakdown strength of virgin specimen decreases, but specimens with added MgO show constant dielectric breakdown strength.

  • Background: The objective of this study was to make colloidal dispersions of the active compounds of radix of Angelica gigas Nakai that could be charaterized as nano-composites using hot melt extrusion (HME). Food grade hydrophilic polymer matrices were used to disperse these compound in aqueous media. Methods and Results: Extrudate solid formulations (ESFs) mediated by various HPMCs (hydroxypropyl methylcelluloses) and Na-Alg polymers made from ultrafine powder of the radix of Angelica gigas Nakai were developed through a physical crosslink method (HME) using an ionization agent (treatment with acetic acid) and different food grade polymers [HPMCs, such as HP55, CN40H, AN6 and sodium alignate (Na-Alg)]. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the amorphization of crystal compounds in the HP55-mediated extrudate solid formulation (HP55-ESF). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis indicated a lower enthalpy (${\Delta}H=10.62J/g$) of glass transition temperature (Tg) in the HP55-ESF than in the other formulations. Infrared fourier transform spectroscopy (FT-IR) revealed that new functional groups were produced in the HP55-ESF. The content of phenolic compounds, flavonoid (including decursin and decursinol angelate) content, and antioxidant activity increased by 5, 10, and 2 times in the HP55-ESF, respectively. The production of water soluble (61.5%) nano-sized (323 nm) particles was achieved in the HP55-ESF. Conclusions: Nano-composites were developed herein utilizing melt-extruded solid dispersion technology, including food grade polymer enhanced nano dispersion (< 500 nm) of active compounds from the radix of Angelica gigas Nakai with enhanced solubility and bioavailability. These nano-composites of the radix of Angelica gigas Nakai can be developed and marketed as products with high therapeutic performance.

  • For the preparation of Aluminum-slurry fuel, the effects of process parameters on the aluminum dispersion stability in the liquid fuel have been investigated. The dispersion stability of aluminum-slurry fuels could be monitored by measurements through Turbiscan using the scattering of the Laser. Through the application of various additives, TPAB (Tetrapropyl ammonium bromide) showed more reasonable performance than others.

  • Silver nano-particles have been synthesized by liquid phase reduction method and alcohol reduction process. Silver nano-particles of the size 30 ~ 40 nm were formed successfully by alcohol reduction process. The formation, structure, morphology and size of silver nano-particles have been studied using FE-SEM, TEM, XRD, UV-visible spectroscopy. In particular high dispersion stability of the synthesized silver nano-particles could be obtained by PVP binding. Antibacterial activity of Ag/PET master batch sample made from its nano-silver particles showed excellent antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli.

  • Recently, it has been studied for the application of nano-materials in the concrete. Applied a small amount of nano-materials can achieve the goal of high strength, high performance and high durability. The small addition of nano clay improves strength, thermal stability, and durability of concrete because of the excellent dispersion. The present study has investigated the effectiveness, when varying with the contents of nano clay, influencing the pull-out behavior of macro synthetic fibers in nano materials cement mortar. Pullout tests conducted in accordance with the Japan Concrete Institute (JCI) SF-8 standard for fiber-reinforced concrete test methods were used to evaluate the pullout performance of the different nano clay. Nano clay was added to the 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 % of cement weight. The experimental results demonstrated that the addition of nano clay led to improve the pull-out properties as of the load-displacement curve in the precracked and debonded zone. Also, the compressive strength, flexural strength and pullout performance and of Mix No. 1 and No. 2 increased up to the point when nano clay used increased by 2 and 3 % contents, respectively, but decreased when the exceeded 3 and 4 %, respectively. It was proved by verifying increase of the scratching phenomenon in macro synthetic fiber surface through the microstructure analysis on the surface of macro synthetic fiber.
