In this paper, we proposed an emulsification method without using an emulsifier and investigated the effects of particle size distribution in fluids on dispersion stability. Surfactant-free oil in water emulsion was prepared with 1 % (w/w) of olive oil by using high speed agitation, high pressure and ultrasonic dispersion methods. The particle size, microscopic observation, and dispersion stability of each sample were evaluated and dispersion stability according to various dispersion methods was compared. As a result, the emulsion dispersed by the ultrasonic dispersion method showed the smallest particle size and uniform distribution of $0.07{\sim} 0.3{\mu}m$ and was the most stable in a 7 days stability evaluation. In the above experiment, four olive oil emulsions having different particle sizes were prepared using ultrasonic dispersion technology that was capable of producing stable emulsions. The dispersion stability of each samples with oil droplet sizes of (A) 0.1 to $0.5{\mu}m$, (B) 0.3 to $4{\mu}m$, (C) 1 to $10.5{\mu}m$ and (D) 2 to $120{\mu}m$, was observed for 7 days, and the relationship between the stability and performance was studied. Emulsion (A) with particle size less than $0.5{\mu}m$ displayed the dispersion stability showing below 5 % change in a 7 days stability evaluation. In the case of (B), (C), and (D) that had larger particle than $0.5{\mu}m$, the changes of dispersion stability were 10 %, 13 % and 35 % respectively. From these results, it was proved that dispersion stability of emulsion with uniform particle size of $0.5{\mu}m$ or less was confirmed to be very stable.
Lung cancer has the highest death rate of any cancer diseases in Koreans. However, patients often feel difficult to recognize their disease before facing the terminal diagnosis due to the absence of any significant symptoms. Furthermore, the clear detection of an early cancer stage is usually obscure with existing diagnostic methods. For this reason, extensive research efforts have been made on introducing a wide range of biochemical diagnostic tools for the molecular level analysis of biological fluids for lung cancer diagnoses. A chip-based biosensor, one type of the analytical devices, can be a great potential for the diagnosis, which can be used without any further expensive analytical equipments nor skilled analysts. In this mini review, we highlight recent research trends on searching biomarker candidates and bio-chip sensors for lung cancer diagnosis in addition to discussing their future aspects.
The rapid and spontaneous adsorption of proteins on nanoparticle (NP) surfaces in biological fluids such as blood is an important phenomenon as it possibly determines "what the cells see" and, thus, the fates of NPs in living organisms. In order to quantitatively understand protein coronas at the molecular level, we investigated human serum albumin (HSA) coronas that were produced on silica NPs of 20 nm and 50 nm diameters using conventional gel electrophoresis. Analysis of the concentration dependence of protein adsorption showed that HSA coronas preferentially formed a monolayer on silica NPs and revealed the presence of hard protein coronas. HSA adsorption was clearly dependent on NP size, and this might be due to the different surface curvatures of NPs of different sizes.
Iron nitride magnetic fluid was oxidized by exposing it to the air under normal atmospheric conditions. After exposure of 3.2 hours, the relative saturation magnetization of the iron nitride magnetic fluid is less than 0.4 compared to the value of the unexposed sample, and it is nearly zero after exposure for 1008 hours. The structure of the oxidized iron nitride is considered to be a non-magnetic hematites. The thickness of the oxidation layers of the iron-nitride particles are nearly the same, about 3 nm, regardless of the different particle sizes.

Pool boiling critical heat flux (CHF) of nanofluids with oxide nanoparticles of $TiO_2$ or $Al_2O_3$ was experimentally investigated under atmospheric pressure. The results showed that a dispersion of oxide nanoparticles significantly enhances the CHF over that of pure water. Moreover it was found that nanoparticles were seriously deposited on the heater surface during pool boiling of nanofluids. CHF of pure water on a nanoparticle-deposited surface, which is produced during the boiling of nanofluids, was not less than that of nanofluids. The result reveals that the CHF enhancement of nanofluids is absolutely attributed to modification of the heater surface by the nanoparticle deposition. Then, the nanoparticle-deposited surface was characterized with parameters closely related to pool boiling CHF, such as surface roughness, contact angle, and capillary wicking. Finally, reason of the CHF enhancement of nanofluids is discussed based on the changes of the parameters.

A new method measuring thermal conductivity of fluids is proposed in this research. It is based on the steady state heat transfer from a hot central cylinder to a cold outer cylinder located concentrically. This method guarantees more stable measurement than conventional THM(transient hot-wire method) due to its simplicity of theoretical principle. Measurements was made for the three nanofluid samples with different particle concentration of pure, 2% and 4%. Nanofluids are made by mixing the pure transformer oil with AlN nano particles. Design of the sensor module and experimental procedures are explained and comparison of the measuring data between present method and THM was made in detail.

Nanofluids is the fluids mixed with nanoscale particles and the mixed nano size materials affect heat transport. Researchers in this field has been focused on modeling and numerical computation by engineers In this paper, we analyze stability constraint of the dominant equations and check validate of the condition for most kinds of materials. So we mathematically analyze stability of the system. Also we apply Gauge-Uzawa algorithm to solve the system and prove stability of the method.

Because of their unique properties, supercritical fluids have been known as one of the most promising materials for the future technology. Supercritical fluid technologies have been widely applied to various operations such as extraction, impregnation, nano-particle generation, oxidation, reaction etc. Industrial applications, especially their successful usage of supercritical fluid, have been reviewed. A special case for the first successful industrial application of supercritical $CO_2$ extraction in Korea was reviewed. Its unique characteristics of enriched antioxidant, $'\grmma-tocopherol'$ enabled this industrial application in Korea in spite of its low market price. Also its size and operation conditions were known as world records.

Recent evidence has indicated that nano-sized vesicles called "exosomes" mediate the interaction between cancer cells and their microenvironment and play a critical role in the development of cancers. Exosomes contain cargo consisting of proteins, lipids, mRNAs, and microRNAs that can be delivered to different types of cells in nascent as well as distant locations. Cancer cell-derived exosomes (CCEs) have been identified in body fluids such as urine, plasma, and saliva from patients with cancer. Although their content depends on tumor type and stage, CCEs merit consideration as prognostic and diagnostic markers, as vehicles for drug delivery, and as potential therapeutic targets because they could transport various oncogenic elements. In this review, we summarize recent advances regarding the role of CCEs in cancer invasion and metastasis, as well as its potential clinical applications. [BMB Reports 2016; 49(1): 18-25]
In this study, the characteristics and sinterablities of TiO2 powders which were fabricated on sol-gel process and supercritical fluid process were examined. The powders fabricated on sol-gel process were amorphous. The particle size and shape were changed with the amount of water used for hydrolysis of titanium ethoxide. The powders were changed from amorphous to crystalline by heating at 400℃. The crystalline anatase TiO2 powders were directly prepared in ethanol supercritical fluid condition that temperature was 270±3℃ and pressure was 7.3 MPa. It's primary crystalline size was 20 nm and agglomerated as spherical shape whose size was 0.7∼1㎛. The powders prepared on sol-gel process were not sintered densely at 900℃ because of abnormal grain growth. However, the powders which prepared on supercritical fluid process were sintered densely at the comparatively low temperature of 800℃ by ideal growth of grain, which are fired at 900℃.
