The ichthyofauna at the Dongchang Stream(a second tributary of the Naktong River) was surveyed from autumn to winter 1991. The fishes collected were 21 species, 18 genera belong to 7 families, and 9 species of them were found to be endemic species to Korea ; Squalidus gracilis majimae, Coreoleuciscus splendidus, Microphysogobio yaluensis, Cobitis longicorpus, Cobitis rotundicaudata, Niwaella multifasciata, Liobagrus mediadiposalis, Coreoperca herzi and Odontobutis platycephala. The dominat species were Zacco temmincki(37.3%)and Odontobutis platycephala(16.9%). and rare species were Pseudorasbora parva, Hemibarbus longirostris, Acheilognathus limbatus, Microphysogobio yaluensis, Cobitis rotundicaudata, Misgurnus mizolepis and Anguilla japonica. The indices of species diversity, eveness and dominant were 0.934, 0.707 and 0.293, respectively.
The freshwater blooms mainly blue-green algal blooms occur frequently in the lower Naktong River in summer, which provoke many socio-economical problems; therefore, the early detection of bloom events are demanding through the quantitative and qualitative analyses of blue green algal species. The in vivo fluorescence properties of cultured strains of Microcystis aeruginosa, M. viridis, M. wesenbergii, M. ichthyoblabe, Anabaena cylindrica, A. flos-aquae, and Synedra sp. were investigated. Wild phytoplankton communities of the lower Naktong River were also monitored at four stations in terms of their standing stocks, biomass and fluorescence properties compared with its absorption spectram. The 77K fluorescence emission spectra of each cultured strains normalized at 620 nm was very specific and enabled to detect of blue green algal biomass qualitatively and quantitatively. The relative chlorophyll a concentration determined by chlorophyll fluorescence analysis method showed significant relationship with chlorophyll a concentration determined by solvent extraction method ($R^2$ = 0.906), and the blue-green algal cell number determined by microscopic observation ($R^2$ = 0.588), which gives insight into applications to early detection of blue green algal bloom.
The construction of Kyungbu canal connecting Han and Naktong rivers is needed to facilitate the carriage of goods and enhance the economic growth. The two rivers are liflked by the Choryeong tunnel with 20.5 km length and 125 m altitude. Seven locks involving of 25 m lifting height are planned to reach the tunnel from Shingok dam along the Han river. The tunnel and dams are located favorably by topographic and geologic map analysis. The water needed to fill the chamber of high lock will he supplied by construction of additional dams above Chungju-dam and/or intmduction of water-saving lock system.
The materials of this study consist of both specimens and survey records of the mollusks and crustaceans which were obtained from 30 collection sites in the Naktong Estuary during Aug.-Nov., 1991. The mollusks and crustaceans collected and identified in this study are 31 and 50 species, respectively. Of these two species of mollusks and six species of crustaceans were newly recored in this area. Including the previous records, the occurrence and distribution of 63 molluscan species and 138 crustacean species were compared in eight zones, before and after the construction of the Naktong Estuary Barrage. During this investigation, only a few species of mollusks occurred in the northern freshwaters off the Barrage. The habitats for the intertidal species were greatly destructed along the eastern part of the UIsuk Is. and the riverside of Tadaep'o where the bank was recently constructed. The commercial bivalves including Corbicula fluminea and Ruditapes Philkippinarum were greatly decreased in number in all the eatuarine waters. A freshwater crab, Eriocheir japonicus, seems to be extinguished in the Naktong River and its neighbouring streams.
The fish species collected in the Keumho River basin are 42 species 31 genera belonging to 15 Families. This report was investigated for the evaluation of water quality in the Keumho River system which is a tributary of Nakdong River in Korea on september in 1999. The fishes collected were 42 species, 31 genera belonging to 15 Families. The dominant species were 5 species; Zacco platypus, Zacco temmincki, Squalidus chankaensis tsuchigae, Moroco oxycephalus, Squalidus gracilis majimae, and 8 species; Hemibarbus longirostris, Pseudogobio esocinus, Culter brevicauda, Cobitis rotundicaudata, Pseudobagrus fulvidraco, Pungitius sinensis kaibarae, Monopterus albus, Channa argus were rare species. The relationship among the GPI, EC and BOD by the organic pollutants were over 0.9. The group pollution index(GPI) was lowest at St. 1(0.85) and highest at St. 1(0.85) and highest at St. 5(2.33). The water quality of the Keumho river divided into 3 parts; the water of upper reaches in river(St. 1) was 1st class(oligotrophic condition), middle parts(St. 2, 3, 4) were 3rd class($\alpha$-mesosaprobic condition) and lower part(St. 5) was 4th class(Polysaprobic condition) as the source of tap water, respectively. And the tributary which are the Sinryeong Stream(St. 6), the Sincheon(St. 7) and the Donghwa Stream(St. 9) in Keumho river were 2nd class as the source of tap water. The results in this study was represented same patterns as the result by the use of indicator species like as algae and invertebrates for the discrimination of water quality. So, some freshwater fish species can be use applicant for the discrimination of water quality.
The present study was performed to examine on the fauna and standing crops of benthic macroinvertebrates in Pongwha and Youngwol region of upper parts of south han river and Naktons river. The Actual site suvry was caried out on the two times during the April·June to October·November, 1988. Main five areas are Mt. Awrawe(1,067m), Mt. Sontal (1,236m), Mt. Munsu(1,206m), Peak Okyopong(357m) and Mt. Pungnak(760m) area. Total taxa of benthic macroinvertebrates of the study area were 118 species, 45families12 orders, 5 classes in 4 phyla. Occurrence species according to the major taxa of aquatic insects were 35 species (29.66%) in ephemeroptera, 25 species(21.19%) in trichoptera, 25 species(21.19%) hemiptera, 1 species(0.85%) in megaloptera. Non-aqautic insect were 5 species in mollusca, 3 ratio was 8.5 percent. Occurrence species(plecoptera) at clean waters were appeared 12 species at Mt. Awrawe and Sontal area. Occurrence species at each survey area was 67 species at Mt. Awrawe area, 60 species at Mt. Sontal area, 43 species at Mt. Munsu area, 37 species at Mt. P'ungnak area and 34 species at Peak Okyo area, respectively. Species diversity indices were 2.96~3.80 at Mt. Awrawe area, 2.79~3.62 at Mt. sontal area, but 2.64~3.12, 1.59~2.46 and 1.98~2.59 at, Mt. Munsu, P'ungnak and Peak Okyo area, respectively. In this region, occurrence species and individual density were smaller than that of Dong river with good habitat, but those were more abundant than that of Poseong river with similar environment conditions. Therefore, occurrence species and individual density of the present survey region were appeared as somewhat abundant.
Yangsan Fault stretches from Yonghae to the mouth of Naktong River in the south-eastern part of Korean Peninsula. The river terraces originated from alluvial fans are classified into the High, Middle, and Low Surfaces. The High Surfaces which were distributed in fragments are considered to be formed during the Mindel/Riss Interglacial period or the former periods. But the Middle and Low Surfaces which were distributed widely are considered to be formed during the Riss and Last Glacial period respecitively. The geomorphic and geologic features around Yangsan Fault suggest that the fault is right strike-slip fault, and some geomorphic evidences of active fault were found on Eonyang and Sinkwang Basin.
The purpose of this study was to set up the accurate way of estimating the frequency of the max. daily rainfall of the Korean rivers. The area selected for study were Han.Naktong, Geum, Yeongsan, and Seomjin River. The following five methods of the rainfallfrequency analysis were applied to twenty four subgrouped regions in the basins; 2 parameter lognormal, 3 parameter lognormal, Type I extremal(Gumbel method), Pearson Type III, and log-Pearson Type III. The regression equations were established between the depth of max. daily rainfall given 6 reccirrence interval(100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2) and the basin area.
The course of biodegradation of anionic surfactants, Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonates(LAS), Sodium Lauryl Ethoxylate Sulfonate(SLES), and Sodium Lauryl Sulfonates(SLS), which are mainly used to make detergents and shampoo, was investigated. The degree of biodegradation was studied as a function of concentration, volumetric flow rate, and temperature in Naktong River. MethyleneBlue Active Substances(MBAS), Total Dissolved Organic Carbon(TOC), and Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD) were measured to evaluate the degree of biodegradation. The degree of biodegradation of LAS was highly dependent upon the concentration and was increased as the concentration was decreased and that of SLES and SLS was almost constant at the concentration of less than 200 ppm, but was much increased as the volumetric flow rate was increased or the temperature was increased.
This study was carried out to evaluate the variations of headloss rate and of specific deposit to depths with effective size of media and configuration of filter layer during algae blooming period. 0.51mm size media was disqualified because most of headloss occurred rapidly below 5cm from surface layer however 0.91mm size media acted deep filtration more than 20cm from top, as result 0.91mm sixte media filter had 2~3 times longer filtration time than 0.51mm sixte media filter, but 0.91mm size media have break-through potentiality. multi-layer filter with 1.02mm anthracite and 0.51mm sand had large deposit volume in upper layer that could longer filtration time, moreover smaller media in lower layer that could protect break-through.
