The total area of forest land in Korea is 64.2%, and significant forest resources can continuously be produced. However our country didn't separate the recyclable waste wood and was illegal landfill or incinerated. In this study, waste-wood and rice husk of biomass and low-grade-anthracite made refuse derived fuel by mixing and compressing. In addition, the binding effect of binders and additives were analyzed. Physical and chemical characteristics of manufactured refuse derived fuel were analyzed and evaluated suitability by compared with quality standards. A result of change with compressed and relaxed density, added 20% anthracite and 10% rice husk is optimal density change and average density increased large range when 20 wt.% P.V.A., guargum, molasses and 10 wt.% starch were added. All fuel samples be distributed over 3,500 kcal/kg LHV and grade of No. 3~4 fuels appeared. A result of the characteristics of physical and chemical compressed biomass refuse derived fuel with addictive, 12.9% of durability improvement appeared when is mixing asphalt and 5.8% of durability improvement appeared when is mixing rice bran by pretreatment of NaOH 5%.
The SMB chromatography is used to obtain high purification of fructooligosaccharides (FOS), the mixture of kestose and nystose. SMB operation condition is usually determined by triangle theory or standing wave design when reactions do not occur within columns during experiment. Some of the reactions in columns may considerably affect experimental results. FOS can be hydrolyzed and converted into glucose and fructose during operation. To include the effect of reaction, the concentrations of each component at steady state after hydrolysis were used in simulation. The obtained simulation values are well matched with experimental results except sucrose. For sucrose, the experimental results were different from expected one due to the existence of an intermediate component. FOS is easily hydrolyzed and converted into glucose and fructose in more acidic condition and at higher temperature. Hydrolysis reaction can be prevented by the pretreatment of separation resin with NaOH as well as operation under lower temperature.
This study was carried out to develop an accurate and rapid analysis method to measure the contents of iodide and chloride in infant formula using an ion selectivity electrode. The infant formula SRM 1846 (Standard Reference Material 1846, NIST, USA) was used as a CRM (Certified reference material). Samples were dissolved in water with 3% acetic acid and filtered through filter paper and adjusted to pH 7.0 with 0.1N NaOH. At pH 7.0, the iodide content of the CRM was $1.04{\pm}0.03\;mg/kg$ compared to the specification of $1.11{\pm}0.1\;mg/kg$ of CRM, and the recovery was $93.7{\pm}2.7%$. The chloride content was $5114.3{\pm}240\;mg/kg$ compared to the specification of $4,920{\pm}300mg/kg$ of CRM, and the recovery was $103.9{\pm}4.9%$. Ion selectivity electrodes could be successful1y used to determine the concentration of iodide and chloride ions in infant formula by a simple and rapid pretreatment of sample matrixes.

The world demand of renewable bioenergy as an alternative transportation fuel is greatly increasing. Research for bioethanol production is currently being progressed intensively throughout the world. Therefore it will be necessary to develop bioethanol production with cellulosic materials. In this study, the yield of ethanol production was evaluated by simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) using sodium hydroxide pretreated sorghum ${\times}$ sudangrass hybrids. Composition analysis of 11 varieties of sorghum ${\times}$ sudangrass hybrids was performed for selection of excellent variety to efficiently produce bioethanol. The content of cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and ash of these varieties were 32~39%, 19~24%, 17~22% and 6~11%, respectively. Among these varieties, 4 varieties of sorghum ${\times}$ sudangrass hybrids were selected for the evaluation of ethanol yield and those were pretreated with 1 M NaOH solution at $150^{\circ}C$ for 30 min using high temperature explosion system. After pretreatment, samples were neutralized with tap water. It contained 52~57% of cellulose. Simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) was carried out for 48 h at $33^{\circ}C$ by Saccharomyces cerevisiae CHY1011 using Green star variety. The yield of ethanol was 92.4% and the amount of ethanol production was estimated at 6206 L/ha.

The various of raw wastewater inflows to the industrial wastewater treatment plants everyday. This makes it difficult to operate the coagulation and flocculation efficiently as a pretreatment process for the industrial wastewater treatment. Additionally, it causes loads on evaporation and membrane facilities which are the posttreatment and alternative processes. For this reason, this study sampled raw wastewater before and after the NaOH injection. An experiment was conducted to compare the coagulation characteristics according to the methods of coagulant injection (single injection, simultaneous injection, consecutive injection, and inverse injection) aiming at efficient treatment of industrial wastewater. The coagulation experiment was conducted using a jar tester. The TDS removal efficiency by the coagulant injection methods increased in the order of consecutive injection (2.8 %) < single injection (3.9 %) < simultaneous injection(8.1 %) < inverse injection(9.6 %); the TOC removal efficiency grew in the order of single injection (84.3 %) < inverse injection (86.2 %) < consecutive injection (88.6 %) < simultaneous injection (89.1 %); the turbidity removal efficiency grew from single injection (99.7 %) < consecutive injection (99.8 %) ${\fallingdotseq}$ inverse injection (99.8 %) < simultaneous injection (99.9 %). These results show that the simultaneous inorganic coagulant-polymer coagulant injection method was more efficient than the consecutive injection method (inorganic coagulant ${\rightarrow}$ polymer coagulant).
In order to develop structural 'bamboo zephyr board', properties of boards produced by various methods making zephyr were estimated. All of boards were tested with KS(Korean Standards) F 3014 Particle board, and results were summarized as follow. The zephyr boards produced by final 1.5 mm roller space had the best properties(MOR, MOE and IB strength) among boards produced by different final roller space. Also, they had the best properties(MOR and MOE) in bending test after 1 hour soaking treatment after 2 hour-boiling in water, which were similar to properties of boards in dry-condition. Thickness swelling(TS) of all boards was less than 12% required to the Korean Standards A 3014. Zephyr boards produced by final 1.5 mm roller space also had the lowest values among all of boards. Boards produced by non-treatment (in green condition) had the better strength than those of boards produced by different pre-treatment methods(boiling in water and in 0.3% NaOH) in bending test.
Lithium (Li) is known to be used not only during acute manic psychosis but also acute depressive phase in manic-depression. In the present study, it was attempted to investigate the effect of lithium on catecholamine (CA) secretion from the isolated perfused rat adrenal gland and to clarify the mechanism of its action. Replacement of $Na^+$ (118.4 mM) by lithium in the normal Krebs-bicarbonate solution used to perfuse the gland produced gradually an increased response in the spontaneous catecholamine release, which was peaked at $30{\sim}60$ min after its perfusion. Li-Krebs solution was perfused into an adrenal vein for 2 hours in every experiments. Li-Krebs-evoked CA secretory responses were depressed significantly under loading with $Ca^{++}-free$ medium. This CA secretion evoked by lithium loading was also reduced markedly by the pretreatment with nicardipine ($10^{-6}$ M), TMB-8 ($10^{-5}$ M) and chlorisondamine ($10^{-6}$ M) for 20 min, respectively, while was not affected by preloading with a pirenzepine ($2{\times}10^{-6}$ M)-containing Krebs. $Na^+$ pump inhibition by pretreatment with ouabain ($10^{-4}$ M) for 20 min did make the marked depression in Li-evoked CA secretory responses. Moreover, Li-evoked CA release was also diminished markedly by preloading with tetrodotoxin ($5{\times}10^{-7}$ M)-contaming Krebs for 20 min. All these experimental results taken together suggest that lithium enhances CA secretion in a $Ca^{++}$-dependent fashion by its accumulation in the adrenomedullary chromaffin cells of the rat, and that this secretory effect may be meidated by a dual mechanism: (i) chromaffin cell depolarization and subsequent opening of voltage-sensitive $Ca^{++}$ channels and (ii) activation of a $[Li]_i-[Ca]_0$ counter-transport system.

The estimation of the pre-processing condition of oyster is of great importance for distributors and processors. This study was attempted to establish the basic data for evaluating the processing suitability of oyster, which is the most important shellfish for domestic use and export. The data were analysed by measuring the condition index, chemical composition and heavy metal content of oysters. In order to eliminate the manual work that has to be done on a tightly closed oyster shell and avoid shrinkage in the oyster meat which is attendant on the steaming process, chemical means to open oyster were examined. finding the method of pretreatment of polyphosphate for frozen oysters were attempted to improve the product quality. The prevention of undesirable color change of the canned oyster meat is another problem to solve. The important results are as follows : 1. The ratio of meat volume and meat weight to the holding capacity by shells may be useful as an index to measure the condition index of oysters. 2. As a whole, monthly changes of moisture and fat content in oysters were reversely correlated. Protein content slightly decreased from April and rapidly decreased in July, and again rapidly increased in August but from September to November decreased slightly. In April, the content of glycogen was 4 percent. From this period to September, glycogen was rapidly decreased. From July to September, it was only 0. 7 to 1 percent but increased from October. There were little seasonal changes in pH value. The pH value of oyster meat was 6.0 to 6.2. The crude ash content was slightly decreased from June to August. 3. The range of monthly change of heavy metal content are as follows: Total mercury was 0 to 0.019 ppm, cadmium was 0.026 to 0.053 ppm, copper was 0.111 to 0.594 ppm, and lead_was 0.061 to 0.581 ppm. 4. By the results of condition index, chemical composition and heavy metal content of oysters, the suitable harvest season as raw materials for processing was the end of December to the end of May of next year. 5. The pretreatment of 10 percent polyphosphate in 5 percent salt solution of oyster meat appeared effective to reduce thawing drip during cold storage. 6. The pretreatment of $Na_2EDTA$ and BHA did not show the color prevention effect to the canned oyster meat during storage. 7. Magnesium chloride affected to open the valves of oysters.

Animal glue is a natural adhesive made from processed skins or bones of animals. It is widely used in wooden crafts, papercrafts, dancheong painting, and pictures. Accurate evaluation of the quality of animal glues during production and use is difficult because there is no formal method for testing the glue's properties during pretreatment and measurement conditions. Thus, in this study, a series of tests were carried out by changing the conditions of swelling, temperature, and concentration of animal glue and gelatin sold on the market. Twelve types of animal glues were evaluated, having a viscosity range of 12.67 cP to 29.43 cP. The results showed that the physical characteristics of the glues were stable when allowed to swell for six h in distilled water(23℃). When 10%(by weight in distilled water) of the animal glue was measured in the reflective mode of a spectrophotometer, the optical characteristics of the glues were stable. Powdered animal glues have a medium brightness and middle-high chroma. Relative to powdered glues, stick animal glues have a low brightness and a medium chroma. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that the data can be assembled into a form so that animal glue workers can use it as a reference for the preparation of evaluation standards for testing the characteristics of animal glues.

This research investigated the dyeing behavior of palmatine (a major coloring compound of Phellodendron bark in addition to berberine) using mercerization (M), tannic acid (T), mercerization-tannic acid (MT), and tannic acid -mercerization (TM) pretreatments. Mercerization was conducted using $20^{\circ}C$ of 20% NaOH for 5 minutes. Tannic acid treatment was conducted using 15% o.w.f. solution of tannic acid at $60^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes and fixed with potassium antimonyl tartrate trihydrate. Dyeing was conducted using 1% o.w.f. palmatine chloride hydrate with 1:100 liquor ratio at $10-95^{\circ}C$ for 10-60 minutes in a dyebath of pH 3-9. MT method resulted in the highest dye uptake and was two times higher than the average dye uptake of T method. MT method provided the best result when the dyeing temperature was $80^{\circ}C$ or $95^{\circ}C$ and the dyeing time was 60 minutes. The pH of the dyebath had less effect on the dye uptake but a pH higher than 5 provided better results. The study confirmed that palmatine is a major coloring compound of Phellodendron bark and that the MT method can be used as a successful cotton dyeing method.
