The transesterifications of beef tallow and the mixture of beef tallow and rapeseed oil were conducted at $65^{\circ}C$ respectively using TMAH, NaOH and their mixed catalysts. The reactants were emulsified with 1vol% emulsifier and propylene glycol. The overall conversion of beef tallow was 95% at such optimum conditions as the 1:8 of molar ratio and 0.8 wt% TMAH. The overall conversion of mixed fat at the 1:8 of molar ratio and mixed catalyst of 70 wt% TMAH 30 wt% NaOH was close to 97% which appeared at 0.8 wt% TMAH in 80min. And the kinematic viscosity of biodiesel mixture using the mixed catalyst was $6.5mm^2/s$ at $40^{\circ}C$.
The purpose of this study was to the observe effects of the various bleaching agents on blood clot. Absorbent papers(N9.5) were coated with O type blood and were dried in shadow for 72 hours. Bleaching agents used were 5% NaOCl 30% $H_2O_2$, saturated solutions of $NaBO_3$$4H_2O$, $Ca(OCl)_2$ and $Na_2O_2$ at $20^{\circ}C$. After the specimens, blood cloted papers were dipped in 10CC of solution for 1 minute, 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 2 hours and 24 hours, specimens were washed with distilled water and dried. Hue Value/Chroma contrived by Munsell was measured in each specimen. The following results were obtained. 1. Superoxol changes 2.5YR 4.5/2 into N9.5 (white) after 24 hours. 2. All bleaching agents except superoxol change YR into Y.
The etiologic role of renin-angiotensin system and sodium-volume status in the pathophysiology of various forms of hypertension was investigated. Plasma renin activity (PRA) was measured by radioimmunoassay, while sodium-volume status was evaluated by the determination of total exchangeable sodium(NaE) using isotope dilution method. The subjects consisted of 25 controls, 24 patients with essential hypertension, with chronic renal failure (13 with hypertension, 9 without hypertension) and with malignant hypertension. The results were as follows: 1. An inverse correlation between NaE and PRA was noted in control subjects (r=-0.598, p<0.001) and normal renin essential hypertension(r=-0.551, p<0.05) and the chronic renal failure with hypertension. (r=-0.790, p<0.001) 2. NaE increased markedly the in chronic renal failure with hypertension ($66.9{\pm}8.69mEq/kg$ of LBM, p<0.001) and the chronic renal failure without hypertension ($54.9{\pm}9.28mEq/kg$ of LBM, p<0.05), while mild increase was noted in malignant hypertension ($51.7{\pm}6.24mEq/kg$ of LBM, 0.05
$50.1{\pm}7.24mEq$) as well as in its renin subgroups.(p>0.1) 3. Absolute value of PRA was not deviated significantly from control group ($2.53{\pm}1.416ng/ml/hr$) except in malignant hypertension ($6.09{\pm}2.042$, p<0.001). But PRA was inappropriately high in relation to prevailing NaE in the chronic renal failure with hypertension (eleven of thirteen patients) and malignant hypertension (ten of fourteen patients), while PRA variatiation was within physiologic range in the chronic renal failure without hypertension. 4. The NaE-PRA product was markedly increased in the chronic renal failure with hypertension ($514.4{\pm}42.10$, p<0.001) and in malignant hypertension ($442.7{\pm}55.03$, p<0.001), while moderately increased NaE-PRA product was noted in the chronic renal failure without hypertension ($402.6{\pm}59.67$, p<0.001). No significant difference in NaE-PRA product was noted in essential hypertension ($354.4{\pm}62.38$, p>0.1). It is suggested that renin-angiotensin system plays a predominant role in the pathogenesis of malignant hypertension and in hypertension of chronic renal failure, though sodium retention is also contributing factor. PRA variation in essential hypertension does not appear to be associated with any consistent change in Na-volume status, suggesting the existence of another mechanism in the genesis of hypertension and PRA variation.
[TEACOOH]-Montmorillonite intercalations complex obtained from Na-Montmorillonite and 10-Carboxy-n-decyldimethylethylammonium bromide(organic cation) was reacted with the monomer($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) to achieve the [TEACOOH]-$\varepsilon$-caprolactone-Montmorillonite intercalations complex. From intercalations complex Montmorillonite/Polycaprolactone Nanocomposite in which montmorillonite(inorganic material) is chemically linked with the polycaprolactone(organic polymer) was formed at $220^{\circ}C$ for 48 h. The basal spacing for the sample obtained after polymerization, extraction with methanol and dried at $65^{\circ}C$ in high vacuum for 24 h was 50.7 $\AA$.
The activation products of aluminum and argon are key radionuclides for operational and environmental radiological safety during the normal operation of open-tank-in-pool type research reactors using aluminum-clad fuels. Their activities measured in the primary coolant and pool surface water of HANARO have been consistent. We estimated their sources from the measured activities and then compared these values with their production rates obtained by a core calculation. For each aluminum activation product, an equivalent aluminum thickness (EAT) in which its production rate is identical to its release rate into the coolant is determined. For the argon activation calculation, the saturated argon concentration in the water at the temperature of the pool surface is assumed. The EATs are 5680, 266 and 1.2 nm, respectively, for Na-24, Mg-27 and Al-28, which are much larger than the flight lengths of the respective recoil nuclides. These values coincide with the water solubility levels and with the half-lives. The EAT for Na-24 is similar to the average oxide layer thickness (OLT) of fuel cladding as well; hence, the majority of them in the oxide layer may be released to the coolant. However, while the average OLT clearly increases with the fuel burn-up during an operation cycle, its effect on the pool-top radiation is not distinguishable. The source of Ar-41 is in good agreement with the calculated reaction rate of Ar-40 dissolved in the coolant.
The purpose of this study was to investigate Na and K balances in healthy adult women. Anthropometric assessments, biochemical analysis of blood, 3-day dietary flood records and collections of 3-day food, 24-hr urine and faces were performed to evaluate intakes and excretions of Na and K in 20 college women living in Seoul. The mean BMI and blood pressure of the subjects were 21.08 and 110.25/67.50mmHg, respectively. Mean daily intake of energy was 1578.84kcal, 79% of Korean RDA. Also, daily intakes of Na and K ware 120.86mEq and 44.20mEq. The urinary and fecal excretions of Na were 99.88 and 4.45mEq/day, and those of K were 30.41 and 8.66mEq/day, respectively. The body retention, retention rate, and apparent absorption of Na were 17.11mEq, 13.23%, and 96.31%, and those of K were 5.82mEq, 8.69%, and 80.12%, respectively. The urinary and fecal Na/K ratio were 3.48 and 0.52. There were significantly positive correlations between 1) urinary Na, K excretions and intakes of Na or K, 2) urinary K and BMI, 3) serum K and serum globulin, and 4) urinary Na excretion and serum haptoglobin level, respectively. The results of this study show that Na intake was higher and K intake was lower than those of other advanced nations. Therefore, nutrition education show instruct people to reduce Na intake and to increase K intake.

Purpose. Urinary calcium excretion using a 24-hr urine colledtion has been used for the diagnosis of hypercalciuria up to now. But It takes a lot of time and costs much. We have investigated on a more simple method for screening of hypercalciuria in children. Methods: We had retrospectively analyzed sodium, potassium, calcium and creatinine in spot urine of eighty-four patients with urinary symptoms from May 1998 to July 1998 in Korea university Guro hospital and compared the urinary Ca/Cr ratio with the Nin ratio. Using a urinary Nan ratio >2.68 as a cutoff value in predicting the occurrence of hypercalciuria, we measured its sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and the negative predictive value. Results: A direct relationship was found between urinary Na/K and Ca/Cr ratio (r=0.496, P<0.001, Ca/Cr : Na/K x 0.0167+0.061). Using a urinary Na/K ratio >2.68 as a cutoff value in predicting the occurrence of hypercalciuria, its sensitivity was found to be $100\%$ and its specificity $54.5\%$. The positive predictive value was $37.5\%$ and the negative predictive value $100\%$. Conclusions : Spot urine Na/K ratio is a valuable test for the screening of hypercalciuria in children.
