  • As a series of tile studies of EPDM-Polymer blends, tile experiment are concentrated to the investigation of the physical properties of tile EPDM-NR-SBR blends. The results are shown as follows: 1. In blending, tensile strength decreased with increase in EPDM contents, especially the ratio of EPDM/NR-SBR is 75/25. 2. Elongation and tear strength were much influenced by blending, especially the ratio of EPDM/NR-SBR is 50/50. 3. Ozone resistance is much improved after blending. It was effective more than tile ratio of EPDM/NR-SBR is 25/75. 4. Aging resistance is much improved after blending. It was effective more than the ratio of EPDM/NR-SBR is 50/50. 5. Hardness increased with increase in EPDM contents and on the other hand, abrasion resistance decreased.

불포화 고무와 포화 고무의 공가류 및 내오존성 (Covulcanization and Ozone resistance for Unsaturated and Saturated Rubbers)

  • 본 실험에서는 공가류와 내오존성을 동시에 만족하는 고무 조성비의 영향에 대하여 검토하였다. 사용한 시편은 NR, SBR, BR, IIR 및 EPDM을 다양한 비율로 블렌딩 한 고무 조성물(시편 A), NR/BR/SBR로 구성된 불포화 고무 조성물(시편B)와 NR/IIR/EPDM로 구성된 포화 고무 조성물(시편C)이다. 시편A와 시편B, 시편A와 시편C를 각각 공가류시켜 PAD 접착 시편을 제작하여 박리강도를 측정하였다. 또한 시편A에 대해서 내오존성을 평가하였다. 시편 A의 불포화 고무 조성중(NR/BR Blend)에 BR보다 NR의 비율이 높을수록 시편B와 시편C와의 접착 강도가 높았고, 또다른 불포화 고무 조성(NR/SBR)에서는 NR보다 SBR 함량이 높을수록 접착 강도는 높았다. 또한 시편A의 조성중에서 NR/BR/IIR/EPDM 조성물 보다 NR/SBR/IIR/EPDM 조성물이 접착성이 우수하였다. 고무 조성중 불포화 고무가 많을수록 접착 강도는 우수하였으나, 내오존성은 다소 열세였다. 불포화 고무와 포화 고무의 비율이 60/40 정도 일 때 접착 강도와 내오존성이 모두 양호하였다.

  • As a series of the studies of EPDM-Polymer blends, the experiments are concentrated to the investigation of the physical properties of the EPDM-SBR blends. The results are shown as follows: 1. Tensile strength decreased with increase in EPDM contents and the decreasing value was good results than NR blending. 2. It was found that the aging were much improved after blending and experiments data was good results than NR blending.

  • A coil pyrolyzer and processor-controlled gas chromatograph were used for analysis of rubber for compounding ratio of the single and blend rubber vlucanizates. Variables such as sample size, pyrolysis temperature, time allowed for pyrolysis, the column packing material, its length and programmable temperature for gas chromatography were examined to obtain optimum condition for application to NR, BR and SBR blends. By application fixed conditions, three kinds of standard curves were finally obtained from thirty samples of blend vulcanizates which were prepared in the pilot plant, NIRI. It is possible to determine rubber composition and their ratio in NR, BR and SBR products by pyrolysis.

An Application of High-Power Ultrasound to Rubber Recycling

  • The application of powerful ultrasound to rubber recycling is a very recent field of study. An ultrasonic field creates high frequency extension-contraction stresses by acoustic cavitation. The breakdown of rubber network occurs primarily around pulsating cavities due to the highest level of strain produced by high-power ultrasound. Stronger reductions of cross-link density were observed at a higher pressure, indicating an important role of pressure during ultrasonic recycling. Visible bubbles were observed during ultrasonic treatment as a proof of acoustic cavitation. Shearing effect has a significant influence on improving the efficiency of ultrasonic treatment. After the ultrasonic treatment, the cross-link densities of NR/SBR blends were lower than those of NR and SBR due to the reduced degree of unsaturation and chemical reactions. Carbon black fillers increase the probability of bond scission during ultrasonic treatment, due to the restricted mobility. The mechanical properties of ground tire rubber (GRT)/HDPE blends were improved by ultrasonic treatment and dynamic revulcanization. Ultrasonic treatment of GRT in the presence of HDPE matrix was found to give better mechanical properties due to the chemical reactions between rubber and plastic phases.

  • We have studied the blending effects of cis-1,4-polybutadiene (CBR) and styrene-tutadiene rubber at various blending ratios of 100 : 0, 70 30, 50 : 50, 30 : 70, 0 : 100, and of carbon black ISAF and HAP at various compounding ratios of 45 PHR, 55 PHR, 65 PHR, for tyre tread rubber. The results obtained are summerized as follows; 1. For tyre tread rubber, it was found to increased efficiency to use SBR polymer only than to use the blending ratio CB/SBR=30/70 below. But it was observed that the latter was adapted for the bus or truck tyre and the former for the passenger tyre. 2. Excellent efficiency was obtained in case of carbon black compounding ratio of 55%, and also the compounding of ISAF made better efficiency than that of HAF. 3. Carbon black was more efficient to SBR than to CB. 4. For the aging ratio, the compounding rubber of NR was the highest, and the ratio was decreased in order of the compounding rubber of oil-extended SBR or CB polymer only, the compounding rubber of non oil-extended SBR or CB polymer only, and the blending rubber.

  • A blend ratio of rubber vulcanzates comprising NBR, CR, EPDM, NR, BR, and SBR alone or blended is determind through a P.G.C. It is found that a characteristic peak of elastomer is proportional to the content of each elastomer when they are pyrolysed. It is also classified to the different AN content in NBR vulcanizates, identification of sulfur-modified and non-sulfur bearing CR polymers, and the content of ethylene, propylene monomer and the third monomer in EPDM vulcanizetes.
