A Study on the NOx Emission Characteristics of Coaxial Jet Flames;Comparison of $H_2/CH_4$ Flame (동축 분류 화염의 NOx 배출 특성에 관한 연구;수소/메탄 화염 비교)

  • The NOx emission characteristics of jet flames fueled with $H_2$ and $CH_4$ were studied. Experimental and numerical investigations were carried out for various flames with varying equivalence ratio, fuel flow rate and nozzle diameter. The Emission indices of NOx(EINOx) were measured by chemiluminescent method and calculated by simulation using detailed chemistry. The results show that EINOx of $CH_4$ and $H_2$ flames have different trends in terms of equivalence ratio and fuel flow rate but have the same trends in terms of nozzle diameter. These differences can be explained by the following Thermal and Prompt trends in both flames. Thermal EINOx trends can be describe in function of residence time in the high-temperature region weighted by the maximum flame temperature and Prompt EINOx trends can be described in function of flame surface area of each combustion conditions.

  • The influences of air staging on NOx emission and burnout of coal flames were investigated using 1MWth combustion test facility. The experiments showed that variation of overall excess air ratio led to a relatively higher NOx emission level for ${\lambda}=1.2.$ When air staging was applied to the combustion air, it was confirmed that a fuel rich primary combustion zone was established and unburned char was burened completely by mixing with the staged air supplied radially around the flame. The NOx emissions were redued by increasing the staged air flow rate, and staging air was suggested to be more than 40% of the total combustion air for the substantial NOx reduction.

  • SNCR 기술을 이용한 NOx 저감은 반응온도 850~$1100^{\circ}C$에서 효과적이였으며, 몰비($NH_3$/NOx), $O_2$ 농도에 상당히 영향을 받고 있었다. 최적온도 $950^{\circ}C$, 몰비 1.5에서 약65%의 NOx 제거효율을 얻을 수 있으며, 온도구배가 없고 $O_2$ 농도가 2~4%로 낮아질 경우 더 높은 제거효율이 기대된다. SCR 기술에 의한 NOx 저감을 위해 $V_3$$O_{5}$/-$WO_3$/$TiO_2$ 상용촉매를 사용하였으며, 반응 온도는 200~$500^{\circ}C$ 범위로 확인되었으며, 약 84%의 NOx 제거효율이 몰비 1.5 에서 얻어졌다. $O_2$ 농도가 21%로 높아짐에 따라 상당히 효율이 떨어짐이 밝혀졌다. SNCR/SCR combined 시스템은 몰비=2.0, $T_{SNCR}$/=$850^{\circ}C$, $T_{SCR}$ /=$350^{\circ}C$ 반응조건에서는 약 93%의 NOx 저감효율을 보여주어 SNCR, SCR 단위기술보다 더 효과적이었다.

  • The effects of a WI(Water Injection) at the intake Pipe and an urea injection at the exhaust pipe for a 4-cylinder DI(Direct Injection) diesel engine were investigated experimentally The water quantity was controlled by temperature of intake manifold and MAF(Manifold Air Flow). In addition, the urea quantify was controlled by NOx quantify and MAF. Effects of WI system, urea-SCR system and tandem system were investigated for with and without EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation). As the results. the SUF(Stoichiometric Urea Flow) and NOx map were obtained. In addition, NOx results can be visualized with engine speed and engine load. It was concluded. therefore, that the NOx reduction effects of the tandem system without the EGR were more than those with the EGR base engine.

  • The exhaust gas from electric power stations, incinerators and industrial boilers contains considerable amount of harmful nitric oxide which causes air pollution. Selective catalytic reduction system with ammonia as a reductant(NH$_{3}$ SCR) have been applied to remove NOx since 1970. it is widely accepted that the NH$_{3}$ SCR process is the best method for the removal of NOx. In this paper the design of SCR reactor based on the NOx displacement is considered and the design program of SCR reactor is developed. The newly developed design program for de-NOx system maybe used in practice.

  • Flame structures and NOx formation characteristics in the flame lets of coflow and counterflow diffusion flame are numerically studied. Calculations were carried out twice with the $C_2-Full$ and $C_2-Thermal$ Mechanism for each flame. Mixture fractions and scalar dissipation rates are used as the parameters to compare the flame let structures and NOx formation characteristics quantitatively. It was found that there is a similarity in flame temperature and stable species profiles except radical profiles between two flamelets. And there are some differences in NOx concentration and production rates. These results imply that the flow effects must be considered in calculations for NOx formation of turbulent flames using Laminar Flamelet Model.

  • Characteristics of low NOx burner is investigated. Low NOx burner introduced in this paper adopts two staged combustion with plasma burner for the 1st stage combustion. Extensive parametric tests were done to figure out the effect of burner stoichiometry, staged thermal load, electric power for plasma generation. Overall NOx production by burner shows effective reduction by adopting plasma staged burner. and the aspects depends on the fuel stoichiometry of 1st stage burner or operating condition of plasma burner. It is promising to use plasma burner as an alternative tools of low NOx burner technology.

  • Development of the low NOx heating boiler was strongly asked due to severe air pollution and the large number of boilers in korea. Compactness of the commercial boiler was also important because of low manufacturing cost and easy installation. In this study. newly developed compact low NOx burner, using turbulent gas diffusion combustion with multi-staged air supplies and multiple fuel nozzles, was investigated. Comparison study of the new burner was performed between experimental results and computational analysis. Commercial computational fluid dynamic(CFD) program named CFX-5.6 was used for numerical analysis of the low NOx burner inside the test combustor. Comparisons of experiment data and numerical result were performed under various equivalence ratio and fuel flow rate.

A removal characteristics of NOx at the cylinderical plasma reactor with magnetic field (자계가 인가된 원통형 플라즈마 반응기에서 질소산화물(NOx)의 제거특성)

  • The effect of magnetic field was measured on NOx removal for cylinder-wire plasma reactor with magnetic field applied to electric field vertically. Power was supplied to plasma reactor using rotating spark gap switch. Consumption power increased with increasing discharge voltage. When magnetic field was applied to electric field vertically, consumption power was less than that without magnetic field because of lorenz's force. NOx removal rate of plasma reactor with magnetic field were higher, 10-15%, than that of plsama reactor without magnetic field. And NOx removal rate decreased with increasing gas flow rate.
