  • Human sparganosis is a food-borne parasitic disease caused by the plerocercoids of Spirometra species. Clinical diagnosis of sparganosis is crucial for effective treatment, thus it is important to identify sensitive and specific antigens of plerocercoids. The aim of the current study was to identify and characterize the immunogenic proteins of Spirometra erinaceieuropaei plerocercoids that were recognized by patient sera. Crude soluble extract of the plerocercoids were separated using 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis coupled with immunoblot and mass spectrometry analysis. Based on immunoblotting patterns and mass spectrometry results, 8 antigenic proteins were identified from the plerocercoid. Among the proteins, cysteine protease protein might be developed as an antigen for diagnosis of sparganosis.

  • A Nonlinear model-based Hybrid Controller (NHC) is developed which consists of the adaptive proportional-integral-feedforward (PIF) gains and variable structure controller. The controller has the robustness against modeling uncertainty and is applied to the trajectory tracking control of single-input, single-output nonlinear systems. The essence of the scheme is to divide the control into four different terms. Namely, the adaptive P-I-F gains and variable structure controller are used to accomplish the specific control actions by each terms. The robustness of the controller is guaranteed by the feedback of estimated uncertainty and the performance specification given by the adaptation of PIF gains using the second method of Lyapunov. The variable structure controller is incorporated to regulate the initial peak of the tracking error during the parameter adaptation is not settled yet. The newly developed NHC method is applied to the power tracking control of a nuclear reactor and the simulation results show great improvement in tracking performance compared with the conventional model-based control methods.

  • PURPOSE. To improve the clinical effects of complete denture use and simplify its clinical application, a digital complete denture restoration workflow (Functional Suitable Digital Complete Denture System, FSD) was proposed and preliminary clinical evaluation was done. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Forty edentulous patients were enrolled, of which half were treated by a prosthodontic chief physician, and the others were treated by a postgraduate student. Based on the primary impression and jaw relation obtained at the first visit, diagnostic denture was designed and printed to create a definitive impression, jaw relation, and esthetic confirmation at the second visit. A redesigned complete denture was printed as a mold to fabricate final denture that was delivered at the third visit. To evaluate accuracy of impression made by diagnostic denture, the final denture was used as a tray to make impression, and 3D comparison was used to analyze their difference. To evaluate the clinical effect of FSD, visual analogue scores (VAS) were determined by both dentists and patients. RESULTS. Two visits were reduced before denture delivery. The RMS values of 3D comparison between the impression made via diagnostic dentures and the final dentures were 0.165 ± 0.033 mm in the upper jaw and 0.139 ± 0.031 mm in the lower jaw. VAS ratings were between 8.5 and 9.6 in the chief physician group, while 7.7 and 9.5 in the student group; there was no statistical difference between the two groups. CONCLUSION. FSD can simplify the complete denture restoration process and reduce the number of visits. The accuracy of impressions made by diagnostic dentures was acceptable in clinic. The VASs of both dentists and patients were satisfied.

  • A series of seven Ru(II) complexes bearing NHC ligands have been synthesized. The electronic structures of these complexes were analysed by spectroscopic and electrochemical methods and further examined by theoretical calculations. Data show that absorption maxima are dependent on the HOMO level rather than the HOMO-LUMO gaps.

  • Recently, with the development of industry and the improvement of living standards, various wastes are generated along with the production of various products. Most of these wastes are used as containers for products, and plastic or aluminum is used. Various attempts are being made to automate the classification of these wastes due to the high labor cost, but most of them are solved by manpower due to the geometrical shape change due to the nature of the waste. In this study, in order to automate the waste sorting task, Deep Learning technology is applied to a robot system for waste sorting and a vision system for waste sorting to effectively perform sorting tasks according to the shape of waste. As a result of the experiment, a Deep Learning parameter suitable for waste sorting was selected. In addition, through various experiments, it was confirmed that 99% of wastes could be selected in individual & group image learning. It is expected that this will enable automation of the waste sorting operation.

  • Objective: This study aimed to determine the maxillary and mandibular basal bone regions and explore the three-dimensional positional relationship between the dentition and basal bone regions in patients with skeletal Class I and Class II malocclusions with mandibular retrusion. Methods: Eighty patients (40 each with Class I and Class II malocclusion) were enrolled. Maxillary and mandibular basal bone regions were determined using cone-beam computed tomography images. To measure the relationship between the dentition and basal bone region, the root position and root inclination were calculated using the coordinates of specific fixed points by a computer program written in Python. Results: In the Class II group, the mandibular anterior teeth inclined more labially (P < 0.05), with their apices positioned closer to the external boundary. The apex of the maxillary anterior root was positioned closer to the external boundary in both groups. Considering the molar region, the maxillary first molars tended to be more lingually inclined in females (P = 0.037), whereas the mandibular first molars were significantly more labially inclined in the Class II group (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Mandibular anterior teeth in Class II malocclusion exhibit a compensatory labial inclination trend with the crown and apex relative to the basal bone region when mandibular retrusion occurs. Moreover, as the root apices of the maxillary anterior teeth are much closer to the labial side in Class I and Class II malocclusion, the range of movement at the root apex should be limited to avoid extensive labial movement.
