  • $LaCoO_3$ thick-films for gas sensing layers were prepared on alumina substrate by screen printing method. The sensitivities to $C_4H_{10}$, $NH_3$, NO and CO gases were investigated for different heat treatment temperatures of the films. Their structural properties were examined by X-Ray Diffraction measurements and SEM photographs. The sensitivity of $LaCoO_3$ thick-film to CO gas was much higher than those of $C_4H_{10}$, $NH_3$, and NO gases. The optimal heat treatment and operating temperatures were $800^{\circ}C$ and $150^{\circ}C$, respectively. The sensitivities of $LaCoO_3$ thick-films to 500ppm and 1250ppm CO gas were 72% and 95%, respectively.

  • In this paper, a real-time monitoring system based on WSN is designed and implemented to monitor livestock growth environment information which includes the temperature, humidity and harmful gases such as $CO_{2},\;CO,\;NH_{3},\;H_{2}S$ and so on. The proposed system consists of the wireless sensor nodes, the monitoring management device, the management server and the user interface program based on PC/Smart phone. To verify the performance of the implemented system, gas measurement experiments are performed in laboratory environment by using the designed wireless sensor nodes. And it is able to estimate the concentration of gases. The implemented system is able to monitor the proposed environmental element information through the developed GUI.

  • The cytidine bio-sensors have been constructed by immobilizing the bacterium Proteus mirabilis and organelle on an ammonia gas sensor. The bacterial sensor was investigated for the effects of pH, temperature, buffer solution, bacterial amounts, interferences and lifetime. The bacterial sensor had linearity in the range of 5.0 ${\times}$ 10$^{-4}$M ∼ 1.0 ${times}$ 10$^{-2}$M cytidine with a slope of 56 mV/decade at pH 7.8, 30$^{\circ}C$ and 3 mg in 1.0 M phosphate buffer solution. This bacterial sensor was compared with it's organelle sensor.

  • The tungsten oxide wire-like nanostructure is fabricated by deposition and thermal oxidation of tungsten metal on porous single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). The morphology and crystalline quality of materials are investigated by SEM, TEM, XRD and Raman analysis. The results prove that $WO_3$ wire-like nanostructure fabricated on SWNTs show highly porous structures. Exposure of the sensors to NH3 gas in the temperature range of 150~300$^{\circ}C$ resulted in the highest sensitivity at $250^{\circ}C$ with quite rapid response and recovery time. Response time as a function of test concentrations and NH3 gas sensing mechanism is reported and discussed.

  • The bio-sensor for glutamine has been constructed by immobilizing petal of the rose structural elements on an ammonia gas sensor. This sensor was investigated for the effects of pH, temperature, buffer solution, tissular amounts, interferences and lifetime. As a result, the tissue sensor showed linear range of $8.0 {\times} 10^{-4}$$5.0 {\times} 10^{-2}$ M glutamine with a slope of 52 mV/decade in pH 7.8, 0.2M phosphate beffer solution at 37$^{\circ}C$. The tissular amounts used for this sensor was 50 mg. This sensorr showed excellent selectivity. This sensor was compared with other structural elements of rose. Actually, this tissue sensor appeared to be very useful for the determination of glutamine.

  • The electrical property of ultra thin PVA films(several hundreds .angs.-several .mu.m in thickness) formed by sphere bulb blowing technique, has been studied. The electrical conductivity of relatively thick films(>several thousands .angs.) has been very high and enhanced by the exposure either to high humidity of air or $NH_3$, which can be explained in terms of the role of ionic transport. The use of PVA films as NH$_{3}$ sensor is also proposed. In ultra thin PVA films less than 1500.angs., two conducting states ; high conducting and low conducting states, are observed. The nonlinear current-voltage characteristics in the low conducting state and the switching between these two states are also confirmed. These properties are discussed in terms of electronic conduction processes. The breakdown strength of the ultra thin PVA film is found to be very high(-30MV/cm), supporting the electron avalanche process in a thick polymer films.

  • A synthesis process for PZT powder using NH$_3$ gas as a precipitator in a bubble column reactor was experimentally successful in develope a production process of Piezoelectric ceramic PZT powder. Also as a reaction by coprecipitation, the crystalized PZT ceramic powder at the condition of over pH 9 could be attained. The time needed for reaction on the condition of NH$_3$ gas flow rate=0.5 1/min, Ar gas flow rate=2.0 1/min, Feed flow rate=2.33 ml /sec was less than five minutes, so it could synthesize PZT powder for such a few moments. And the synthesized PZT powder was 0.17${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in diameter on an average.

  • $MoO_3$ thin films were deposited on electrode and heater screen-printed alumina substrates in en atmosphere by RF reactive sputtering. The deposition was performed at $300^{\circ}C$ with 350W of a forward power in an $Ar-O_2$ atmosphere. The working pressure was maintained at $3{\times}10^{-2}$mtorr and all deposited films were annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ for 5hours. The surface morphology of films was observed by using a SEM and crystalline phases were analyzed by XRD. The sensing properties were investigated in term of gas concentration under exposure of reducing gases such as $H_2$, $NH_3$ and CO.

  • Using $SiCl_{2}H_{2}$, $NH_{3}$ and $N_{2}O$, we have fabricated silicon oxynitride ($Si_{x}O_{y}N_{z}$) layers on thermally oxidized silicon wafer by low pressure chemical vapor deposition. Three different compositions were achieved by controlling gas flow ratios($NH_{3}/N_{2}O$)) to 0.2, 0.5 and 2 with fixed gas flow of $SiCl_{2}H_{2}$. Ellipsometry and high frequency capacitance-voltage(HFCV) measurements were adapted to investigate the difference of the refractive index, dielectric constant, and composition, respectively. Regardless of nitride content, silicon oxynitrides had similar stability to silicon nitrides. The relative standing of alkali ion sensitivity in silicon oxynitride layers was influenced by nitride content. The better alkali ion-sensitivity was achieved by increasing oxide content in bulk of silicon oxynitrides.

  • The bacteria containing urease convert each molecule of urea into two molecules of ammonia and one molecule of carbon dioxide gas. Bacterial electrodes have been constructed by immobilizing the Proteus vulgaris on an ammonia and a carbon dioxide gas-sensors, and were investigated for the effects of pH, temperature, buffer solution, bacterial amounts and interferences, and life time. NH3-bacterial electrode based on ammonia gas-sensor had linearity in the range of $7.0{\times}10^{-4}\;-\;3.0{\times}10^{-2}$M urea in pH 7.4, 0.05M phosphate buffer at $25^{\circ}C$ with a slope of 116.7 mV/decade. While $CO_{2-}$bacterial electrode based on carbon dioxide gas-sensor bad linearity in the range of $7.0{\times}10^{-4}\;-\;5. 0{\times}10^{-2}$M urea in pH 7.0, 0.1M phosphate buffer at $30^{\circ}C$with a slope of $45.4{\times}45.7mV/decade$. As the clinical application, urea in urine was determined by these devices and this result was compared with spectrophotometric method. Consequently, these electrodes could be used for the analysis of many samples because of simplicity, rapidity and convenience of the experimental procedure.
