  • Currently a number of managers exist to manage heterogeneous networks, in this situation, the NETCONF protocol for efficient network management has been proposed as a new protocol. However, the standard NETCONF protocol stack continuous improvement since the establishment but in four layers still have some problems. Especially in situations where there are multiple administrators, problems are more highlighted in operation layer. In this paper, we focus on these issues and the Operation layer has improved the efficiency and flexibility of operations among NETCONF four layers. Additionally, for the inefficiency of updates improved the device settings based on improved operation techniques. In addition, standard protocol NETCONF did not proposed content layer data structure and we propose standard technique of content layer that can generate configuration structure of devices. Improved the three techniques are applied appropriately to the NETCONF, the proposed method and the existing NETCONF was performed experiment to compare with experimental four factors. Compare key factor are four kind as maintaining the probability of network function, the reaction performance about command, the number of control packets, performance of data creation in content layer. Such factors after performing the experiment, the proposed method in this paper is superior to the existing NETCONF and there was confirmed by analysis Experimental results.

  • Modern network has a complex structure that includes diverse and heterogeneous equipments to cope with multi-purpose functions. For proper administration of networks with complex structures, NETCONF protocol has been proposed. It still, however, has a few unresolved issues with each layer of the protocol. Tackling one of the less attended issues of NETCONF, this article suggests a technique which can efficiently update the configuration data of network equipments when multiple administrators are present. Specifically, for efficient updates of the network equipment configuration, we propose to add a pre-examination of the data dependent to algorithm in 오퍼레이션 layer and modify the data structure for managing XML documents for changing the configurations of network equipments. We have implemented and experimented with our method and confirmed that our approach brought an significant overall performance improvement to NETCONF.

  • IETF's NETCONF WG has taken efforts in standardizing configuration management protocol, which allows high interoperability of configuration management. In addition to interoperability, high performance is also required in configuration management, but many researches have often discarded the performance aspect of it. In order to fill that void, this paper proposes methods to improve performance with layers of NETCONF. It demonstrates and compares the performance evaluations to verify the efficiency of the proposed methods.

  • It is appropriate to use the NETCONF to monitor and manage today's complex networks that are composed of variety links and heterogeneous equipment. Since the first standard of the NETCONF are launched, there have been several revisions, but disadvantages of each layer capabilities is still present and the most typical disadvantage is XML document processing efficiency of the Content layer. In this paper, we perform data modeling by constructing a sub-tree based on the dependencies between Content layer data, and suggest method of extract efficiently data from XML by applying the extended VTD-XML technique for the XPath query. We performs experiment to compare NETCONF in proposed method to NETCONF in previous studies and NETCONF standard. we validate superiority of improved NETCONF in the paper. As experimental results, we verify that improved NETCONF is better than the other two NETCONF each 4% and 10% in terms of query processing rate, and faster than each 3.9 seconds and 10.4 seconds in terms of query processing speed.
