Hybrid Machine with Open Architecture Controller (개방형 CNC를 응용한 하이브리드 머신 개발)

  • Hybrid machine is based on hardware technologies of machine tool and software technologies of open architecture controller. In machining technology, combination technology of turning, milling, and grinding and in machining energy technology. combination of mechanical, electrical, and chemical technology are developed. This paper describes hybrid machine technology for combination of machining, on-machine measurement, on-machine CAM, and on-machine remote monitoring and control in open architecture controller environment. For on-machine measurement, non-contact measurement technology based on CAD information is developed. For on-machine CAM, interactive CAM program for automatic NC program generation and tool path simulation is developed. For generation on-machine remote monitoring and control, suitable interface method between web program and CNC is proposed. The developed hybrid machine technology is implemented in 3 axes milling machine for evaluation of operablity.

  • Materials used for education include SM20C, Al6061, and acrylic. SM20C materials are used a lot in certification tests and functional competitions as carbon steel, but they are also used in industrial sites. Al6061 is said to be a material that produces a lot of tools because it has lower hardness than carbon steel and is highly flexible. When practical guidance is given to students using acrylic materials, it is a material that causes vibration and tool damage due to excessive cutting. In this process, we examine how impact on the 5-axis equipment 2NC head can affect precision control. The weakest part of a five-axis equipment is the head that controls the AC axis. In the event of precision and cumulative tolerances in this area, the precision of all products is reduced. Thus, a key part of the 2NC head, the spindle housing was carried out using Al7075 T6 (U.S. Alcoasa) material and the entire body using FCD450 (spherical graphite cast iron). In the vibration and cutting process acting on these two materials, the analysis was carried out to determine the value of applying the force as a finite element analysis under extreme conditions. We hope that using these analytical data will help students see and understand the structure of 5-axis machining rather than 5-axis cutting.

  • Increased productivity and cost reduction have emerged as the main goals of the industry due to the development of the machinery industry, and mechanical materials with excellent properties with the development of the machine tool industry are widely used in machine parts or structures. In addition, the cutting process of production plays a pivotal role in the production technology. Studies on cutting have involved a lot of research on the material, the cutting tool, the processing conditions, and numerical analysis. Due to the development of the computer through numerical analysis, cutting conditions, the assessment of cutting performance, and cutting quality could be predicted. This research uses the creation of the material model and AdvantEdge Production module for the NC code analysis. To improve the productivity, this research employs the optimization method to reduce cutting time.

Tool Path Generation of a Die Cavity Defined by Sculptured Surfaces (자유곡면으로 이루어진 Cavity의 가공경로생성)

  • This paper deals with a new method for the machining of a die cavity defined by sculptured surfaces. In machining die cavities or pockets, process planners have been faced with some troulbes. One of the troubles ius to rebove a great deal of material within a given boundary while avoiding cutter interference. Cutter interference is a ciritical problem in NC machining of a die cavity. Even though this cavity machining has been implemented in many CAM systems, most of them can handle limited shapes of cavities or pockets. In this paper, a procedure has been developed to machine die cavity or pocket of a sculptured surface. The offset surfaces of the part surfaces and boundary surfaces are determined to calculate the intersection curves. These intersection curves form a FACE on the part surface, and the interference free tool pathe is generated by eliminating the points outside the FACE when computing the cutter contact (CC) data. Additionally, the cutter location (CL) data obtained from the CC data convert to an NC data. The NC data generated through this algorithm are verified on the CINCINNATI milling machine. A propotype die cavity machining system has been implemented in FORTRAN language and FIGARO graphics library on IRIS workstation.

NC tool path generation of arbitrarily shaped pockets

  • In machining die cavities or mechanical parts, we often encounter the needs to remove a material within a given boundary. Even though this pocket cutting capability has been implemented in many NC packages, most of them can handle convex shaped pockets bounded by curves of limited types and numbers. In this work, a procedure has been developed to machine pockets of a free surface bounded by lines, circular arcs and free curves. Also, the cutter location data is computed directly without using iterative method for better computational efficiency.

  • In this paper, we introduce the supermicro computer- based nonreal-time BTR type DNC system, which can provide valuable datas for production and management by monitoring the operation of NC equipments. (upto 48 NC machine) In accordance with manual job schedulinq, part program is combined with tool presetting datas and enables rapid downloading and uploading. An application to the production system of die & Mold plant is presented.

  • Despite of the low productivity, the manual programming for NC machining is still widly used because of it's economical reasons. In this study, the computer assisted manual programming system CAMP which assits the efficient verification of MCD(Machine Control Data) is presented. The system can detect sysntax errors, graphically display tool motions and eventually diagnose programming techniques. The case study is applied for the NC turning operations.

  • One of the main problems in modern factories is that most of the plants utilize programmable devices from a wide range of manufactures and each requires its own proprietary protocol and interface. To avoid this type of problems a Integrated Control System is proposed that prevents these multi-vendor environments. The paper describes the architecture of the system and discusses the benifits that from its implementation can be derived.

  • Acquisition of 3D points is an essential process for modelling of physical 3D objects. Although Coordinate Measuring Machine(CMM) is most accurate for this purpose, it is very time consuming. To enhance the data aquisition speed for scuptured surfaces, active vision with reflecctometric method was used for our system. A fter the data acquisition, the system automatically generates cutting tool path for the 3-axis milling of the object. The fullyintegrated system from the data acquisition to the NC-code generation was implemented with IBN-PC/386 and necessary hardwears.
