Development of NC controller using personal computer (PC를 이용한 NC제어장치의 개발)

  • We developed a model of NC controller with IBM-PC as a host cpu and integlligent NC servo controller for 2 axes that can be expaned to 4 axes. Basic conceptions, including hardware structure design, servo controller design, communication protocol, and interpolation hardware design was already publicated on '87 KIEE conference. Following this, we focussed on the emulation of tyhe controller with X-Y table as complete NC machine experimenting some drawings made by NC code program that can be edited and executed in automatic on single step mode. In addition we designed the M.S.T functions with PLC and tested for M-function timing. Finally, we designed NC interface to fit with M-function output and we contructed total system of NC controller with IBM PC host with the result of successful development of new NC model.

  • In this paper, an operating system is designed for NC controllers. Host computer is the IBM-PC, and the controller panel is designed in graphics mode to look easily for users. Pull-down menu is selected, which is useful to minimize a mistake made by users, so users can use NC controller more effectively. Also, many functions are proposed, such as NC editor for programming the NC program directly, simulation function for testing editted NC program, and new key-pad that appropriates for the functions of OS.

  • NC controller parameters are fixed when the controller is combined with a machine. However, the characteristics of controller could be changed as it has being used by the machine or other environmental conditions. Ultimately, it results in tool positioning accuracy changing. The loading torque in servo motor also influences on the positioning accuracy. This study focus on a measuring and analysing method for verifying the angular positioning accuracy of NC servo motor. We used a high resolution A/D converter for acquiring analogue signal of rotary encoder in servo motor. Generating tool path by the combination of axial movements (X,Y,Z) is compared with the encoder signals with the servo motor torque. The current variation signal is also read from the servo motor power using a hall sensor and converted to the motor torque. The method of analysing proposed in this study will be used for determining the gains (tuning) of parameter in NC controller, when the controller is set up at a machine initially or the controller condition is changed during the work.

  • The gains fur NC controller parameter are fixed when the controller is combined with a machine. However, the characteristics of controller could be changed as it has being used by the machine or other environmental conditions. Those result in that the tool positioning accuracy is influenced. The loading torque in servo motor influences on the tool positioning accuracy and it is controlled by the parameter gains. It is required to analyze the torque variation with angular positioning accuracy of the servo motor. This study focus on a measuring method and device for verifying angular positioning accuracy of NC servo motor. The positional accuracy for a nominal tool path, which is generated by the combination of axial movements (X,Y,Z), is analyzed with the servo motor torque. The current variation signal is acquired at the power line using a hall sensor and converted to the loading torque of servo motor. The method of measurement and analysis proposed in this study will be used for determining the gains of parameter in NC controller. This gain tuning is also necessary when the controller is set up at a machine.

  • In this paper, the BTR (Behind the Tape Reader) type communication unit which interfaces the IEBM PC/XT to the FANUC 5M NC controller is developed, making it possible to send NC part program from the memory of IBM PC/XT to the NC controller. As an example of integration of CAD and CAM technologies, the machining of a two dimensional hand-written free line which incorporates the processes of geometric data acquisition using a digitizing tablet, automatic part programming and control of NC milling machine operation is demonstrated.

  • In this study, we designed a model of NC controller with IBM-PC as a host CPU and intelligent servo controller for 2 axes that can be expaned to 4 axes. OS software was developed with C language at the base of mode selection technic for 9 NC operating modes. Servo controller design was based on the application of interpolator IC(3701) and position controller IC(3702) that permits low cost and high performance. For connection of two systems, parallel I/O communication was implemented. Finally, auto interpolation program test was executed for linear and circular paths resulting 1 LSB accuracy.

  • Some evolutional system has been used to promote the efficiency of the DNC(Direct Numerical Control) Controller. However, these are many inconvenience to this operator because it lacks harmony in interaction between the computer and the NC(Numerical Control) Controller. Also, there are some controversial points when data error occurs at the Data Input/Output. Accordingly, this paper explores a new Data Remote Control System. In this study, the NC Controller of the DNC network has to get full data by removing data error in this system. In this system, the main merits are easy manufacturing and the convenience of Data Input/Output. That is, remote control of the NC machine tool is possible without mutual interaction between the computer and itself.

  • NC 공작기계의 contour 운동 오차를 측정하기 위하여 사용되는 Ball-Bar에 의한 원호 보간 시험 데이터를 이용하여 NC controller의 성능을 평가 할 수 있는 S/W에 의한 방법을 제시한다. 본 논문에서 지금까지는 분석이 어려웠던 Masrer-Slave Changeover의 분석을 가능하게 하였으며, Ball-Bar로 부터 얻어지는 데이터를 Weighted Residual Method에 의한 종합적인 분석을 하였으며, 오차 원인별 비교를 위해 Eztra Sum of Squares Method를 도입하였다. 본 연구의 실제 적용을 위한 측정 및 분석 S/W를 개발하였으며, 결과적으로 NC controller의 성능평가에 유용함을 알 수 있었다. 무부하 조건에서의 Ball-Bar에 의한 분석 데이터와의 비교를 위하여 원형 시편을 가공하고, 진원도 측정 및 분석을 통하여 유사한 오차 pattern을 가짐을 알 수 있었다.

  • This paper proposes the Embedded Linux System that can overcome the shortcomings of conventional CNC machine system. Linux is free of charge with the open source library and tools that can be used in the development of Kernel. Besides, Application is easily available through countless open source, allowing simple mending for seamless porting. This study have developed the study about NC Program automation Load System based on Embedded Linux and the ordered controller.

  • The solution of problems in the automation of mold manufacturing process are high speed and resolution. To catch two problems at once, digital servo system will be essential replacing the analog servo system. In this paper, we tried some hardware/software approach including, designing basic structure, modeling of servo actuator, and designing & simulating of velocity & position controller. Finally, we constructed the hardware for 1 axis digital servo controller of NC system. As a result we obtained the design technics of digital servo systems for high speed NC system.
