  • In a ceramic green body, some degree of nonuniformity in density always presents. These differences in green density will appear as nonuniform shrinkage after sintering takes place. For the complex ceramic bodies with various curves and angles, therefore, it is quite difficult to foresee the final dimensions precisely after sintering. This simulation study shows that, considering the sintering process as a thermal shrinkage phenomenon, the use of NASTRAN enables to predict the precise shape of a sintered body. Based on this result, 'the reverse engineering technique' has been developed that can unfold the exact dimensions of a green body to have the desired shape after sintering. This approach will provide a simple and useful tool for ceramic engineers to fabricate complicate bodies with tight dimensional tolerances.

  • This paper presents the dynamic analysis of a humanoid robot using Nastran that is one of FEM analysis program. Generally, computer program based on the Lagrange-Euler method or Newton-Euler method was used for dynamic analysis of a robot. The Lagrange-Euler method requires much calculation performance and it is also hard to apply to complex structure, and the Newton-Euler method limits accurate modeling and calculation for closed structure like a humanoid robot. In this paper, mechanical and structural data are obtained from the Nastran. It is possible for Nastran to make model similar to real system and can apply a physical properties and laws to model. So, accurate simulation is possible. From this result, accurate data is gained by Nastran. Furthermore, this method is shown to be a useful method that guarantees accuracy for trajectory planning.

  • A study on gust load alleviation using aircraft control surface was performed. Aeroservoelastic model including control surface controller was formulated and validated by comparing the results of continuous gust response analysis with those of MSC/NASTRAN. Optimal control with output feedback was adopted for designing the control surface controller, and the effects of gust load alleviation was validated by performing the numerical simulation for the controller designed.

  • ELT(emergency locator transmitter) has assisted in the rescue of thousands of lives in distress. Aviators, mariners and land users being equipped with distress beacons are capable of transmitting distress signals to the satellites in emergency situations anywhere in the world. In this paper, Drop/Impact simulation was performed for ELT Body-case. FE model for Body-case was constructed with MSC/Dytran and refined using the Karas example simulation for Body-case prototype. Shock/impact survivability analysis was performed for ELT operations. FE model constructed with MSC/Nastran. Transient response analysis for refined ELT model was perfomed for ELT under impact shock loading condition.

  • This research focuses on structural stability of the multi-aerial platform. In this study, we conduct structural analysis for the lower structures such as sub frame, out-trigger and chassis frame, by using a universal structural analysis program NASTRAN based on 3D CAD data, material properties, load conditions and boundary conditions. We confirm the position of local stress exceeding the yield strength, through structural analysis of 4 cases for load conditions. As the results, it is possible to relax stress concentration in a way such as changing the thickness, reinforcing the material of the lower frames.

  • The ageing cause in many porcelain suspension insulators which occur on transmission and distribution line with dead-end stings is mechanical stress in interface between porcelain and cement materials. It is known that the principal mechanical stress which give electrical failure is the results of the displacement is due to cement growth. We studied the effect of cement displacement resulting environmental ageing parameters on porcelain insulator mechanical properties for transmission line by simulation (ANSYS/NASTRAN program) and test methods. These simulation analysis and experimental results show that cement volume growth affects severely to be mechanical failure ageing.

  • The objective of this study was to analyze a stability of sideways overturning of a forwarder developed by the Forestry Research Institute. The stability analysis was conducted using a multibody dynamic analysis program. VisualNastran Desktop. A solid model of the forwarder was constructed and its physical properties such as mass, mass center and mass moment of inertia were determined on 3D CAD modeler of the Solid Edge 8.0. 3D simulations of sideways overturning of the forwarder were also performed on the Visual Nastran using the solid model when it traveled across the slope and traversed over an up-hill side obstacle. Stability comparison between a bogie-wheeled and a 6-wheeled forwarders was also made and found that the bogie-wheeled forwarder was more stable than the 6-wheeled one on slopes. The safety speeds of the forwarder predicted by the simulation under various conditions can be used as a guideline for safe operations of forwarders in mountainous area. The technique of using a solid model for the sability analysis can also be applied successfully to other vehicles like agricultural tractors, loaders and construction equipments.

  • A CHS(Container Handling System) is a system to load and to unload ISO 2000 or ISO 4000 standard containers which is widely used for various industrial transport purpose. A new light type of CHS is introduced in this paper, in order to reduce weight of cargos and to give the convenience in cargo loading and unloading without additional lifting equipments. The structural models of this system are created to assemble the smooth integration of system and to interface the each composing units with the specification of truck chassis to be mounted. These models are applied to find the suitable design parameters under the condition of force restrictions of each units. Finally, the stability of this system are investigated by analyzing the dynamic simulation using Visual NASTRAN 4D, and it could be recommend the good design parameters for the manufacturing purpose.

  • An analysis fur the warping process has been performed to design the warper beam. Nonlinear material response is included in the physical model of polyester yarn. Large deformation finite element simulation considering contact and frictional analysis are used to obtain the pressure on the barrel of the warper beam. Loading condition on the flange is assumed by using the pressure on the barrel, winding number of yarn, Poisson's ratio of fiber, and fiber volume fraction. By using the above loading conditions NASTRAN finite element simulation is performed to calculate stress distribution and deformation of the warper beam. By comparing the deformed shape of the flange with experimental result, loading condition on the flange has been obtained. The obtained loading conditions on the barrel and flange can be utilized to design the warper beam.
