  • After successful commissioning observations in 2014, Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrograph (IGRINS) has been conducting its normal scientific operations on the 2.7m Harlan J. Smith telescope at the McDonald Observatory and has been producing high spectral resolution near-infrared spectroscopic data in excellent quality. We will present the current status of the instrument and its software packages, and highlight initial scientific results. In particular, we will discuss possibilities of having IGRINS on larger telescopes.

  • After successful commissioning observations, IGRINS will soon begin its normal scientific operations on the 2.7m Harlan J. Smith telescope at the McDonald Observatory. We will present a working version of the IGRINS operation plan. A fraction of IGRINS guaranteed time will be devoted to a selection of strategic programs with legacy values, whereas the rest of the time will be used for normal programs. We will also describe the current status of the IGRINS data reduction pipeline package and its future development plan.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore self-management support experiences among breast cancer survivors. Methods: Individual in-depth interviews were performed for survivors who had treated breast cancer after completion of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Data were collected from April 2014 to July 2014 and analyzed using phenomenological method by Colaizzi. Results: Five essential themes were found as follows: 1) Need for continuous help and support to maintain self-management, 2) Need for professional resources to carry out regular exercise, 3) Overcoming psychological difficulties through others rather than health care professionals, 4) Disappointment with time with and circumstances of health care consultation, 5) Dependence on means of media for health related information. Conclusion: The results might contribute to an understanding of self-management support experienced by breast cancer survivors in Korea. It is suggested that evidence-based program for self-management support should be developed and applied to nursing intervention for breast cancer survivors.

  • The K-GMT group launches a new science program designed to promote the observational research capabilities of Korean Astronomical Society. The science program (SP, hereafter) will provide the access to the observational facilities that is required for the completion of science proposals selected based on their scientific merits. The SP will invite the submission of proposals from all members of Korean Astronomical Society annually starting from mid-2013. We will introduce the rationale, action plan, and major timelines for the new K-GMT SP to the Korean astronomical community members.

  • In line with the expected price reduction of natural gas associated with the introduction of shale gas, it is expected that the optimal power mix for the electric power generation be changed. In this study, the reconfigured power mix is estimated with the varying natural gas price by using the Screening Curve Method (SCM). It is found that about 3% and 9% coal in the overall power mix is replaced with natural gas if the natural gas price falls 20% and 40% of the current price, respectively. It is also found that the reconfigured power mixes would provide the reduction of the emissions of air pollutants which are equivalent to 369 and 807 MUS$.
