A Study on the Decompressed Ammonia Stripping from Ammonia Contained Wastewater (폐수의 감압 암모니아 탈기에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims at finding out pertinent reaction conditions for treating high concentration ammonia contained in N-chemical factory wastewater with decompressed ammonia stripping method that was designed. And it also tries to investigate adsorption capability of removed ammonia to soil. The results from experiments are as follows ; 1. The removal rate of N $H_3$-N of synthetic wastewater was under 85% at pH 10 with decompressed ammonia stripping method. The reaction time in pressure 360 mmHg at pH 11 and 12 was shorter than in 460 mmHg, and the removal rate of N $H_3$-N with decompressed ammonia stripping method at 9$0^{\circ}C$ was 11~15% higher than air stripping 2. The optimum conditions for decompressed ammonia stripping with synthetic sample were shown as pH 12, temperature 9$0^{\circ}C$, internal reaction pressure 460 mmHg and reaction time 50 minutes. These conditions were applied to treat the wastewater containing organic-N 290.5mg/$\ell$, N $H_3$-N 168.9mg/$\ell$, N $O_2$-N 23.2mg/$\ell$, N $O_3$-N 252.4mg/$\ell$, T-N 735mg/$\ell$. Organic-N turned out to be removed 60%, the removal rate of N $H_3$-N IS 94%, T-N is 50%. But N $O_2$-N and N $O_3$-N were increased with 7.8% and 14.9% respectively. 3. The CO $D_{Sr}$ removal rate in decompressed ammonia stripping reaction was 42% and S $O_4$$^{2-}$ was removed 8.2%. It was turned out caused with higher pH and thermolysis. 4. In soil adsorption of ammonia desorbed from the decompressed stripping process of wastewater, the recovery rate was 76% in wet soil.

  • The crystal structure of the title compound consists of discrete 4-N,N-dimethylamino-4'-N'-methyl-stilbazolium, $C_{16}H_{19}N_2$, and tosylate, $C_7H_7SO_3$, dimer. The 4-N,N-dimethylamino-4'-N'-methyl-stilbazolium molecule has a trans conformation at the central C=C double bond: the dihedral angle between the phenyl and the pyridyl rings is $5.7(2)^{\circ}$ and the whole molecule is planar within $0.138(8){\AA}$. Tosylate molecules display hydrogen-bonded dimers with the O-H...O distances of 2.855(9) and $2.899(8){\AA}$, respectively. The shortest intermolecular contact is the distance $3.10(1){\AA}$ between O(3) and C(16).

  • Let $B^{n+1}$ be the unit ball in the complex vector space $\mathbb{C}^{n+1}$ with the standard Hermitian metric. Let ${\Sigma}^n={\partial}B^{n+1}=S^{2n+1}$ be the boundary sphere with the induced CR structure. Let f : ${\Sigma}^n{\hookrightarrow}{\Sigma}^N$ be a local CR immersion. If N < 3n - 1, the asymptotic vectors of the CR second fundamental form of f at each point form a subspace of the CR(horizontal) tangent space of ${\Sigma}^n$ of codimension at most 1. We study the higher order derivatives of this relation, and we show that a linearly full local CR immersion f : ${\Sigma}^n{\hookrightarrow}{\Sigma}^N$, N $\leq$ 3n-2, can only occur when N = n, 2n, or 2n + 1. As a consequence, it gives an extension of the classification of the rational proper holomorphic maps from $B^{n+1}$ to $B^{2n+2}$ by Hamada to the classification of the rational proper holomorphic maps from $B^{n+1}$ to $B^{3n+1}$.

  • Sintered Si3N4 and Inconel composed of Ni(58-63%) Cr(21-25%) Al(1-17%) Mn(<1%) fe(balance) were pressurelessly joined by using Ag-Cu-Ti brazing filler metal at 950℃ and 1200℃ under N2 gas atmosphere of 1atm and their interfacial structures were investigated. In case that the reaction temperature was low as 950℃ its interfacial structure was "Inconel metal/Ti-rich phase layer/brazing filler metal layer/Si3N4 " Ti used as reactive metal existed in between inconel steel and brazing metal and moved to the interface of between brazing filler metal nd Si3N4 according as reaction temperature increased up to 1200℃. The interfacial structure of inconel steel-Si3N4 reacted at 1200℃ was ' inconel metal/Ni-rich phase layer containing of Fe. Cr and Si/Cu-rich phase layer containing of Mn and Si/Si3N4 " Cr Mn, Ni and Fe diffused to the interface of between brazing filler metal and Si3N4 and reacted with Si3N4 The most reactive components of ingredients of inconel metal were Cr and Mn. On the other hand Ti added as reactive components to Ag-Cu eutectic segregated into Ni-rich phase layer,.

  • The intercalated compounds of alkylsulfonates into hydrated zinc were synthesized. From the high temperature powder X-ray diffraction (HTXRD), FT-IR, and molecular size, the temperature dependence of orientation for the intercalated alkylsulfonates were determined. In the temperatures range 1, alkylsulfonates were intercalated into hexa aqua zinc layer with the bilayer structure of $32.9^{\circ}$angle for ${Zn(H_2O_4]^{2+}[C_nH_{2n+1}SO_3]_2\;^-$. In the temperatures range 2, alkylsulfonates were intercalated into tetra aqua zinc layer with the bilayer structure of $55.2^{\circ}$angle for ${Zn(C_nH_{2n+1}SO_3)_2$. In the temperatures range 3, alkylsulfonates were directly bonded to zinc ion with the bilayer structure of $76.5^{\circ}$angle for ${Zn(C_nH_{2n+1}SO_3)_2$.

  • Poly(N,N'-Dichloro-N-ethyl-benzene-1,3-disulfonamide) (PCBS) and N,N,N',N'-Tetrachlorobenzene-1,3-disulfonamide (TCBDA) were found to be a mild and efficient reagent for the direct oxidative conversion of sulfur compounds to the corresponding arenesulfonyl chlorides in good to excellent yields through the oxidative chlorination. The overall process is simple, practical, and it provides convenient access to a variety of aryl or heteroarylsulfonyl chlorides. The mild reaction conditions and the broad substrate scope render this method attractive, and complementary to existing syntheses of aryl or heteroarylsulfonyl chlorides.

Nitrogen Isotope Compositions of Synthetic Fertilizer, Raw Livestock Manure Slurry, and Composted Livestock Manure (화학비료, 가축분뇨 및 퇴비의 질소동위원소비)

  • To investigate the difference in N isotope ratio ($^{15}N/^{14}N$, expressed as ${\delta}^{15}N$) among N sources (synthetic fertilizer, livestock manure, and manure compost), eight synthetic fertilizer, four livestock manure, and thirty-seven compost samples were collected and analyzed for ${\delta}^{15}N$. The mean ${\delta}^{15}N$ values of N sources were $-1.5{\pm}0.5$‰ (range: -3.9 to +0.5‰) for synthetic fertilizer, $+6.3{\pm}0.4$‰ (+5.3 to +7.2‰) for manure, and $+16.0{\pm}0.4$‰ (+9.3 to +20.9‰) for compost. The lower ${\delta}^{15}N$ of synthetic fertilizer was attributed to its N source, atmospheric $N_2$ of which ${\delta}^{15}N$ is 0‰ Meanwhile, more $^{15}N$-enrichment of compost than manure was assumed to be resulted from N isotopic fractionation (faster loss of $^{14}N$-bearing compound than $^{15}N$) associated with N loss particularly via $NH_3$ volatilization during composting. Therefore, our study shows that ${\delta}^{15}N$ values could successfully serve in discriminating two major N sources (synthetic fertilizer and compost) in agricultural system.

Screening of the Antimicrobial and Antitumor Activity of Xanthium strumarium L.Extract (한국산 도꼬마리 추출물로부터 항균.항암물질의 탐색)

  • To isolate and purify the antimicrobial and antitumor agents in Xanthium strumarium L. hydrothermal extract. The crude extract was extracted in ether or ethylacetate under neutral, acidic, and alkali conditions. The antimicrobial activity of each extract was tested against 16 strains of bacteria, 2 strains of yeast, and 2 strains of fungus. The ether neutral extract (XE-N) exhibited the strongest growth inhibition upon the 8 strains of gram-positive bacteria, 6 strains of gram-negative bacteria and Cryptococcus neoformans. Fluorescein diacetate (FDA) testing of XE-N and XEA-N showed growth inhibition of the 3 strains of E. coli, S. aureus and C. albicans even at 30 ng/mL, with the exception of p. aeruginosa. XE-N-S1 and XE-N-S3 from neutral ether extract (XE-N), XE-N-S3 from the acidic ether extract (XE-A), and XEA-N-S1 from ethylacetate (XEA-N) were purified as antimicrobial and antitumor agents. However all purified compounds decomposed with the exception of XE-N-S1. The results upon the antitumor activities of the crude extract and of its purified compounds, showed that XE-N-S1 had the best antitumor activity against HeLa cells. In terms of antitumor activity against HepG2 cells, XE-N-S1 and XE-N-S3 were superior, and against HT29 cells XE-N and XE-N-Sl were good, against Saos2, NCI H522, NCI H1703, Clone M3 cells XE-N-51 was very good, and against LN CAP cells XE-N-S3 was the best. Comparing of cellular toxicities various extracts and purified compounds with the existing antitumor agents, XE-A, XEA-A and XEA-B had the lowest toxicity, and XE-B had a lower toxicity than etoposide. XE-N-S1 and XE-N-S3 showed higher toxicities than etoposide, and the toxicity of XE-A-S3 was higher than that of etoposide, and lower than that of csplatin.

  • Electrical discharge machinable $Si_3N_4$ was fabricated with the addtion of 20-60 vol% TiN by gas pressure sintering. Their sinterability, microstructure, mechanical and electrical properties were characterized as a function of the TiN content. The addition of TiN up to 20 vol% increased the flexural strength and fracture toughness as compared with those of the monolithic Si3N4. For the TiN content higher than 40 vol%, the electrical resistivity was lower than $1062\Omega$.cm. The $Si_3N_4$ with the addition of 40 vol% of TiN appears to have the optimum considerable sinterability, mechanical and electrical properties, and machinability. A microstructural analysis showed that the enhanced toughening was due to the crack deflection.

New nirS-Harboring Denitrifying Bacteria Isolated from Activated Sludge and Their Denitrifying Functions in Various Cultures

  • By using PCR with nirS gene primers, three nirSharboring denitrifying bacteria (strain N6, strain N23, and strain R13) were newly isolated from activated sludge of a weak municipal wastewater treatment plant. Small-subunit rRNA gene-based analysis indicated that strain N6, strain N23, and strain R13 were closely related to Arthrobacter sp.,Staphylococcus sp., and Bacillus sp., respectively. In an attempt to identify their roles in biological nitrate and nitrite removal from sewage, we investigated their specific denitrification rates (SDNRs) for $NO_-^3$ - and $NO_-^2$ - in various cultures. All purecultures of each isolated nirS-harboring bacterial strain could remove $NO_-^3$ - and $NO_-^2$ - simultaneously in high efficiency, and the carbon requirements for $NO_-^3$ - removal of strain N6 and strain R13 were effectively low at 3.1 and 4.1 g COD/g $NO_3N$, respectively. In the case of mix-cultures of the strains (N6+N23, N6+R13, N23+R13, and N6+N23+R13), their SDNRs for $NO_-^3$ - were also effective, and their carbon requirements for $NO_-^3$ - removal were also effective at 3.0- 3.8 g COD/g NO3N. However, all tested mix-cultures accumulated $NO_-^2$ - in their culture media. On the other hand, the continuous culture of activated sludge mixed with strain N6 showed no significant increase of $NO_-^3$ - removal in comparison with strain N6's pure culture. These results suggest that nitrate and nitrite removal in biological wastewater treatment might be dependent on complicated bacterial interactions, including several effective denitrifying bacteria isolated in this study, rather than the specific bacterial types present and the number of bacterial types in activated sludge.
